I hate to see this but I was surprised she stuck around after last season. While Jessika Carter is still on the roster, she hasn’t played this season. That leaves only Myah Taylor on the roster from the 2020 team that lost in the finals of the SEC tournament before the shut down.

Rikea has all the tools to be a good one for a team. I hope she is happy and successful wherever she winds up.

Myah was on the bench during our national championship game vs Notre Dame. Amazing how long that girl persisted. The Last of the MoVicans.

Yeah I remember she was a redshirt that year. She followed Vivians as the MS HS POY for a couple of seasons.

I go out on a limb here and say Michigan State. I remember she had a very good recruiting visit with them first time around.

My first thoughts as to possible landing spots would be, in no particular order, Texas, Tennessee, Michigan, Louisville, or LSU. Don’t see her at South Carolina but I didn’t see Cardoso coming to Columbia either so….

When a player transfers at this point in the season, they basically lose their eligibility from the spring semester, right? It seems like an odd time to transfer from an on court perspective. Kids have many reasons that contribute to their decisions though.

How much eligibility remains? Her senior year plus a covid year?

Jackson's mother, Caryn, said in a text message to The Clarion-Ledger, "She just wants out for mental health reasons."

The newspaper also reported, citing sources with knowledge of the situation, that there was tension between several players on the team.
Jackson mother Caryn was infamous for a a couple tweets during her recruiting process.
One said somethings like I'm paraphrasing" My Daughter can't even decide what she wants for breakfast and people are asking her about a top 10 list of schools." She also tweeted that UCONN had offered Rickea which was a major surprise to many of us on BY. I'd also forgotten that Rickea's AAU coach played for Vivian Stringer while she was at Cheney. It will be interesting to see if Stringer gets involved here.

It is odd timing. Most, if not all, schools have already started their Spring semesters. But, she still has time to enroll at some schools based on their enrollment deadlines

Can't tell if she plans to remain at MSU this semester, withdraw from MSU and sit out the rest of the semester (at home), or enroll immediately at her new school.
I doubt she'd stay at MSU academically. I believe only 2 years of credits are accepted by most universities, so she'd likely be taking courses that wouldn't transfer and her entire world in Starkville is likely wrapped up in basketball.

Jackson is going to be a HUGE pickup for whoever lands her. She was one of the top freshmen in the country a couple years ago and looked like a likely bet to be an All American as an upperclassman. Has lottery pick potential for next year's draft or in 2024 if she maximizes eligibility.

In terms of landing spots, my predictions are almost never accurate, but based on the landscape of each program and assuming Jackson wants to maximize her chances to win and improve as a player, I think she likely ends up in Texas or South Carolina.

Texas seems like the obvious front runner based on Vic being there and she flourished under his system. Texas is recruiting well and shaping up to be a powerhouse in the Big 12. Program has Final Four potential and I think she'd be the team's go to player from day 1.

South Carolina is another one that jumps out to me since they're likely the championship frontrunner (or at least in the mix) for the next couple of seasons and Dawn often seems to land these types of players. Plus SC was a finalist during her initial recruitment. Depending on how Dawn envisions her program going forward, I actually think adding in Jackson could muddle up chemistry based on there being too many talented players on the roster. There isn't a nice clean spot for Jackson to take, it'll mean many other players take on reduced roles, lose minutes or lose some freedoms on the court that go to Rickea now. I don't think Jackson would start over Beal but probably gets big minutes off the bench. That said, in Jackson restricts minutes for Rivers, Hall, Littleton and Russell. Her presence also likely changes Zia Cooke's role with the team and effectively changes SC's on court chemistry. They could ultimately be a better team, as Jackson is an All American caliber player and is better than anyone on SC besides Boston, but it will change the chemistry and dynamic that Dawn has built for the last 3 years with her 2019 class.

As for other schools mentioned:

UCONN-this would really surprise me considering UCONN's roster make up next year with Fudd/Ducharme returning, plus Patterson/Brady coming in. I don't think she ever had UCONN on her radar, but who knows.

Tennessee-logistically this would make a lot of sense. She could fill in for Rae Burrell's void, play alongside Horston and play for a team with a shot to make the Final Four. Her comment about fulfilling her dream of playing in the SEC makes me think she's not transferring to another SEC school though.

Louisville-if Smith returns it doesn't make sense logistically IMO. Louisville's 3 best players play 2-4, so I think there'd be somewhat of a log jam. It could happen though. Walz loves his transfers and is a good coach.

Maryland-a lineup of Owusu, Briggs, Miller, Jackson and Reese would be incredibly fun to watch. I'm not expecting it'll happen but it wouldn't shock me either.

LSU-Kim is another one who does great with transfers and Jackson could really elevate the program. I'm assuming Baton Rouge has more similarities to Starkville than most other programs if she's enjoying the south which could give them an edge. LSU likely isn't a title contender though and is in the SEC (noted above).

Ole Miss-definitely a possibility if she's enjoying Mississippi.

Baylor-I really don't see this one panning out. Baylor is clearly on a downward trajectory with similarities to Mississippi State's downward trajectory once Vic left. The roster will be depleted after this season too.

Michigan-can see her landing here if she wants to stay close to home. Better program than Michigan State.

Michigan State-they're not a very strong program so I think it's unlikely, but they are close to home.

Great post. Very well thought out. I' thinking LSU. Kim may be the best coach at getting transfers. My darkhorse is FSU. Another school with a great track record of getting transfers.

If I were her agent. I would advise:

1. Texas. Coach relationship is known. Team can reach high level of wins/visibility.

2. LSU: great coach. Staying in SEC

3. Tennessee: a contender. Staying in SEC

4. SCar: contender but minutes? Does she like playing defense first?

I get some think Michigan and Michigan State could be wild cards because of location. Michigan does make more sense, but after Hillmon graduates this year, where is the depth?

Yes Brown is coming back and possibly Dilk, but the balance they have this season is because of their senior class. Who will play in the post to give her the ability to play out at the wing and do what she does best? Unless some of the other seniors, like Kizer are opting to take the extra year, I'm not sure their front court depth will pick up the mantle when Hillmon leaves.

I'm not upset at Rickea and understand her desire to move on to a program that is more likely a contender for post season or championship success. I will again show my dislike for AD Cohen on the absolutely terrible hire of NMP. In one decision where he had an in house candidate we lost in less than 2 years every player save one (who is a graduate student at this point) who played for Vic on a team that was SEC tournament runner up and would have been a top 16 seed and host.

I wasn't rooting for NMP to fail, in fact I thought early on she would have been successful with some time but we see how that turned out. I was sad to hear of her health problems and while I feel like it played a factor I gather there is more to that story than we know.

Next year will really be back to the drawing board with a new coach highly likely and what will amount to a clean slate.

Why is no one considering a PAC-12 school?
Probably because she didn't consider a single school west of Texas during her high school recruitment.

I could see Arizona and UCLA as options this time around, but strictly because Barnes and Close have hit the transfer portal harder than just about any other head coaches recently.
