This is easy,

College sports are amateur sports and always will be, if a player wants to get paid just play pro sports (Lamelo Ball), problem solved. Oh you aren't good enough to get paid by a pro team? Tough, join the club, very few people are good enough to play pro sports.

You cannot commodify relations and teach children to treat every interaction as an opportunity to make money off someone. When you do that, people/society will treat them like adults in every way and they will be dehumanized. They can wait for that when they are adults out of school.

You realize you live in a capitalist country and society. Without inequality and exploitation capitalism cannot exist. Without it, how would rich people get rich. You yourself unless you are retired or independently wealthy are exploited everyday, but naively think you are free.

PS: Student athletes get hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of good/resources. They get paid directly with a full scholarship already plus unlimited food, gym, trainers, vip facilities, tutors, and the opportunity to play in front of thousands/millions in the best gyms in the country, and travel the country. This allows them an opportunity to showcase their talents and make money when leaving school on top of getting a degree if they so choose. That kind of experience is unquantifiable. 99% of people never get this opportunity.


PS: The exploited ones are regular college students not college athletes.

Actually, the current college athletics system is more socialist than capitalist. The top 2 or 3 sports generate the lions share of the revenue, which is then redistributed to non revenue sports. In a capitalistic system, all the money would stay in the revenue generating sports and the non revenue sports would cease to exist.

it’s as tiring as hearing that the “parks and facilities management” major RB who is just being kept eligible to play in his bowl game is getting a free education and he should be grateful for it.

UCONN football just had a former player named superintendent of the Stratford school system. Many take advantage of the education and some don't.
 
FWIW... I don't really like the transfer rule for high-major football basketball. But for every women's sport, and every other men's sport, the kids really are "student-athletes" first. That's why I agree with the free transfer rule despite this chaos.

If I wanted to go play ball closer to home after my sophomore year as a crappy D2 player that was never, ever going to sniff professional basketball, I should have had the option without having to sit a year.

I didn't realize he had moved on from Windsor HS. Good for him. Smart guy and really good with people and as a motivator... though he always seemed like he didn't really have much experience with kids and was kind of more interested in power/prestige than being an educator. He'll probably do well as a superintendent for that reason.

Allow them to make their own decisions, if they want to transfer, let them. It’s their life, the whole obsession of restricting these athletes is really strange.

If you were referring to me saying "destroying basketball" that's in terms of paying players salaries. I think most reasonable people can agree on NIL and stipend as workable solutions.

I don't think the obsession is with restricting athletes it's with free agency not being a practical/sustainable model for college sports.

Locke would be a perfect fit. He's everything we wanted Adams to be and I think he's a target we could land since we probably have some connections with Maryland where he's from, and he isn't so good he's going to UK/Duke etc.

Dynamite shooter off the catch or in transition. Elite. One of the best in the NCAA. That's why you recruit him.

Okay straight line driver. Not a great rebounder or passer. Okay as a back up ballhandler. Though he isn't a shot creator, since we have Andre as a point-forward we can probably get away with a 2 who can't handle as well next year.

Park him in the corner and run him and Hawkins off as many screens as you can set--that's our offense.

Wasn’t towards you, its just a common theme people talk about when allowing players to earn additional income.

With the new transfer rule just being established, it’ll take a little time to work itself out. I’m just of the mindset of allowing players to do what they feel is best without making them sit out. They’re young, often immature, things change etc. Sometimes players just need a change of scenery, so I’m cool with allowing players to make a move if they feel necessary.
 
I live in Florida and watch all Gator games. He is a great stand still shooter who will make the open 3. He cannot create his own shot and is a below average ball handler.

How is he on defense? Thats generally how Hurley determines PT.
 
His defense is nothing special either. He was often off the floor late because he could not guard. If his team is loaded and he can stand at the 3 point line then he is useful. If not then I would compare him to a smaller Tommy Polley.

So you’re saying he should probably play safety instead of linebacker?? Cuz, you know, Tommy Polley was a linebacker.

He’s better at shooting than Polley and it would be nice to have more than one shooter to turn to anyway.

Limit what people making paychecks (e.g. coaches) can do (e.g. when they can reach out to players). Unpaid athletes should be able to do whatever is in their best interest. Is it really best for them? It's becoming too easy to be a quitter. Look at how IW grew here as an example of someone who stayed and became a better player.

I’m pretty sure that most people on here want players to get a more equitable distribution of the proceeds. Forbes had an article that suggested most basketball players would receive $500,000 per year if they split the profits 50-50.

If we're going to throw Sanogo and Jackson on the floor together, plus have Gaffney/Diggins/Rese/Akok/Johnson (who are all likely pretty bad shooters for guys who take so many 3s) on the roster, we cannot be recruiting anyone under 6'7 that CAN'T shoot it at a high level. If we just recruited 3 guys between 6'3 and 6'8 that can shoot catch and shoot 3s, our team would be better for it.
 
An RJ Cole/Noah Locke starting backcourt is a very good shooting backcourt. I don't really love RJ and Gaff together. Get me Locke, another shooter and a back up big and we are all set.

RJ/Sool/Gaff
Locke/Gaff/Hawkins
AJax/Hawkins/Martin
Martin/Akok/Samson
Sanogo/?Whaley?/ Samson

I'd love to add Polley to this group as well, to play some spot minutes at the 4. Also whomever shoots better from 3 between Martin and Akok should be in that starting lineup to keep the paint open for Sanogo.

Agreed, use our 3 schollies on all shooters, and bring back Whaley to be that back up big.
