2021 Recruiting: Rahsool Diggins Commits to UConn

Dan Hurley warned people after last year's Villanova game that "you better get us now because its coming". I dont know if I was completely convinced in the moment, but I think he gave ample warning. It feels like a recruiting freight train just barrelling through other teams getting commitments.

Hopefully more of these moments...

“He’s a special guard that’s crafty with the basketball,” said John Mosco, Archbishop Wood’s coach. “Makes everybody better around him, and he’s a winner, a team player. He gets by people. His shot’s getting better. He gets people involved, gets people the ball in the right places to score and he’s learned when to take over.”

And for those without Courant access: Rahsool Diggins, 4-star guard from Philadelphia, accepts Dan Hurley’s challenge, picks UConn men

This is a nice get - where does this leave UConn with Hawkins?
Can only help. Everyone wants to play with a good PG (aside from other PGs, which Hawkins is not)

To put things in perspective. In Dan Hurley first 2 full years on the job to recruit, he convinced 2 heavy Syracuse leans, one basically in their back yard to come to UConn.
Then he goes and grabs Seton Halls priority target out of Jersey. (Without ever even visiting)
Then he grabs a Villanova target right out of Philly....
Other fab bases say “he hasn’t put anyone into the NBA in college”..... well if that’s your strongest pitch against the guy right now!?!? I CANT WAIT, to see our classes 3-4 years down the line.

brand is still strong & the future is equally bright.

You nailed it.

And the NBA argument won't be valid much longer (Bouk).

Hurley and staff are building something really special.

Rahsool Diggins called UConn head coach Dan Hurley and assistant Tom Moore on Thursday night and told them he wanted to FaceTime on Friday morning with a very important message.

Hurley and Moore probably hadn’t imagined just how early Diggins was going to call. But at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, he informed the coaches that he would be committing to UConn. Then he continued on his way to a workout.

“He’s a gym rat,” Diggins’ high school coach, John Mosco, told Hearst Connecticut Media. “He wants to get better.”

Not for nothing, but that is 100% correct. The staff was already doing a good job on the recruiting trail, but once the Big East move was announced, they just took it to another level...and everybody in the business has noticed this.
To be fair, we had a nationally rated top 5 recruiting class in the AAC. We're not at that level yet. But if you want to wet yourself with joy, feel free.

The Athletic article says he wanted to commit a few weeks ago, but his dad made him wait. Again, doesn’t sound like Nova picked Brizzi over him, which makes this even sweeter.
Although he had been wanting to commit sooner, his father told him to wait a few weeks to make sure it wasn’t just an emotional decision. UConn kept checking in, which closed the deal, Rahsool Diggins Sr. said.

Why Rahsool Diggins chose UConn over a Big East rival

Head bang

Calhoun had been a coach for about 25 years before he was recruiting at this level. Hurley is on track for a Hall of Fame career.

Ok let’s not get crazy. JC was at Northeastern then took over a UConn team who lived in the cellar of the Big East with little recruiting power. UConns name is here because of JC and Hurley’s taking full advantage of what the program is and was. Great job but not happening without JC and it wasn’t close to 25 years for him to build it.

Nonetheless this staff is getting it done, very exciting to see who’s next.

Congratulations to the staff. More to come!
Chief has been preaching -trust in the grind to our beloved Casual Fans, who want the instant First Night type gratification. But, that’s not competitive basketball. Good daily habits and a mindset of focused shared goals. It’s more than a catchy slogan, it’s a way of life. It can be lots of fun too! .
