QB controversy/ies?

Evers might be a great practice player. Mora said he had a very good week leading up to Rice. But there is a huge difference when the lights come on. It's the difference between the driving range and the golf course. Hopefully, practice will start to translate to the game field.

This Friday's game will make a big difference in how we judge this team.

We’re 8 games in. We have enough body of work to judge the team. We beat really bad teams and lose to better quality teams.

We are 5--3. That is what needs to be judged. We won 3 games last year, 6 is our high water mark over the last 10 years. Instead of style points, look at the record vs previous decade. We should all be ecstatic as the program rebounds into not being a punch line! After that, let's shoot for relevant.

But will they have good football players? Or a coach who can be successful there? Nobody knows what they’ll be in 10 years. Their team and ours too are in Elementary and middle school today.
Tough kids in '33 is all that I'm willing to bet on!!

We have two flawed quarterbacks right now. Despite that we have 5 wins. They don’t give style points in football. At the end of the day the team with the most points wins. I heard someone on the radio talking about the Chiefs. His comment was at this point in the season everyone complains about how a team wins instead of realizing that despite not playing their best football, they still won. I think that applies to us right now. We played poorly the last 2 games. Won both. When was the last time you could say that? With luck our play on offense improves and we get back to winning big.

On the schedule, We haven’t played murder’s row but that is partly a function of the typical annual variance among teams and the how far in advance games are scheduled than anything else. And it is especially true among G5 teams in the portal era. We have games scheduled in 2033 against Army. Anyone care to tell me how Army will be in 2033?
the question is "can evers play better football"... well, can he?

I wouldn’t worry about that now. The team is quite different than the team at the end of spring practices.

.-.
Nope, they do not give "style points" in football. But tat is a relevant comment at the end of the season. What this discussion is about is future games in light of recent history. In particular, Friday night.

That is the question. Evers contributed nothing of consequence to beating Rice. In fact it was in spite of Evers we won because Bell made a circus catch on a terribly thrown ball and Robinson broke out a big run. He missed guys all day, couldn’t run, turned over the ball…just absolutely horrendous. Maybe there is talent in there that Mora sees during the week, but it isn’t showing up on weekends.

NE is a very fortunate young man to have JM as his coach.
I like JM but most coaches would have moved on from NE at this point.
I have..................................

If we see the same results 1H vs. Georgia St, in a must win game, you must make the substitution to Joe.

If we don’t then just admit college football is ruined by NIL and the bigger paycheck will always win, otherwise funding gets cut.

.-.
The NCAA has 122 QBs ranked for passing efficiency. Fagnano is 6th. Evers is 121st.

Even taking Merrimack into consideration, pretty much all the QBs listed played a gimme game.

Maybe you stick with Evers vs GaSt because their run defense sucks (although their pass defense sucks too), but I think Mora has to give serious consideration to starting Joe @Syracuse. His game simply suits the situation much better than Evers' does. Cuse is much better defending the run than the pass. And they're at home.
This is the way. I think GA St should be Evers' last chance to show what he has. He'll have played three straight weeks. If he plays well, then you go with him again vs. Syracuse. If he struggles again, let Joe start. At that point, you can give Welliver a shot too, since he'll only have 3 games left.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: my preferred outcome is that NE gets into a rhythm vs. GA St and the entire discussion is put to bed... but that ain't UConn Football.

There was a time we couldn't beat bad teams so I consider that progress.
Yeah for sure, beating bad teams beats getting beat by bad teams. This has been a solid year for us as we climb out of a hole almost 15 years in the making.
