The WR body language after some of those Evers' throws was, well, not good.
Yeah, but there were a few too many drops in the first half so I'm not sure the WRs were in position to display negative body language.

Again, I felt we should have changed QBs at halftime but I wasn't consulted. That said, as far as the WRs, those in glass houses....

Case in point.
Turner sucks. Roberson or Fagnano must be better. Roberson gets hurt and Fagnano wasn't good. Evers must be better. Evers sucks, play Fagnano.

Here's a test for this board. Go back over past three seasons. Based on stats, W/L "Eye Test" and quality of opponents, rank the following:
Turner
Roberson
Fagnano
Evers

If you could have any of these QB's finish out this season, who would it be?

I’ll play. I would think it has to be Roberson and then Fagnano. Fagnano may actually have the better numbers, but Roberson had a pretty good sample size and I think he showed that he could run a little bit and throw a little bit. Probably pretty close between them.

Evers can’t throw and while Turner won some games, I don’t think he ever put up much numbers.

This!

It was a stinker of a first half by EVERYONE! QB, WRs, OLine, RBs.

The offense found a way to put 17 up on the board in the second half, which is very respectable. Running got better, fewer drops, and we hit on a couple of down field passes as well.

Does the QB play need to be better? Yes.
Is the entire board overreacting that the sky is falling down? Also yes...

Let's see what you have to say after the GAST game.

Usually I just guess on this stuff, went to Sports Reference game log to actually do the work.

Stats clearly between Roberson and Fagnano, I choose Fagnano. Best passing stats fewer Int's, none of them run well, although not sure how many sacks they took. Seem to remember Roberson taking off occasionally and running pretty well.

W-L Fagnano/Evers over Turner Roberson(Roberson had worst teams maybe ever) .

Eye test
Zion Turner seemed more confident and sure of himself than Evers appears.
Fagnano knows what he's doing, get excited when he drops back to pass
Roberson probably had more talent and needed another year. Had Roberson stayed he would have made it interesting He's attempted 6 passes and no rushes at K-State this year, who have a good QB in Avery Johnson and could win out and
be near top 10 team.
Evers has an incomplete record, but doesn't inspire me when he's running the team

Rank

Fagnano
Roberson
Turner
Evers-who supposedly has more upside of anyone in this group.

Pretty much what Hoophound said, and he didn't fool around for an hour on "game log"

The NCAA has 122 QBs ranked for passing efficiency. Fagnano is 6th. Evers is 121st.

Even taking Merrimack into consideration, pretty much all the QBs listed played a gimme game.

Maybe you stick with Evers vs GaSt because their run defense sucks (although their pass defense sucks too), but I think Mora has to give serious consideration to starting Joe @Syracuse. His game simply suits the situation much better than Evers' does. Cuse is much better defending the run than the pass. And they're at home.

I agree with you. But the counter-argument would be that Evers didn't play in any gimme games although the part of the Buffalo game he did play in might have qualified. Thing is, JF did much better than NE in that game although I did like some of the things the NE did.

Agree.... We're only two months away from people saying the same thing if Fagnano took another meaningful snap at UConn.

With all due respect. The people that said that were assuming something better would be available. That’s not a difficult assumption to reach.

We have two flawed quarterbacks right now. Despite that we have 5 wins. They don’t give style points in football. At the end of the day the team with the most points wins. I heard someone on the radio talking about the Chiefs. His comment was at this point in the season everyone complains about how a team wins instead of realizing that despite not playing their best football, they still won. I think that applies to us right now. We played poorly the last 2 games. Won both. When was the last time you could say that? With luck our play on offense improves and we get back to winning big.

On the schedule, We haven’t played murder’s row but that is partly a function of the typical annual variance among teams and the how far in advance games are scheduled than anything else. And it is especially true among G5 teams in the portal era. We have games scheduled in 2033 against Army. Anyone care to tell me how Army will be in 2033?

Plays into the Mora believes Evers will break out theory, again hoping for sooner than later.

Army will have a bunch of tough kids in 2033.

Your theory is based on the incorrect assumption that he is worried about keeping a promise to donors. It’s not the donors… he wants to be viewed as a promise keeper in the portal space. Which goes a long way. But in terms of giving your team the best opportunity to win its walking a tightrope.

I think he’ll play Evers through the end of this season and move on after that.

Evers might be a great practice player. Mora said he had a very good week leading up to Rice. But there is a huge difference when the lights come on. It's the difference between the driving range and the golf course. Hopefully, practice will start to translate to the game field.

This Friday's game will make a big difference in how we judge this team.

I don’t believe that he is keeping a promise to donors, that supposedly comes from press conference interpretations by others. I think he is a responsible coach who wants to win, and is taking a risk that Evers will turn out to be a lightning rod.

But will they have good football players? Or a coach who can be successful there? Nobody knows what they’ll be in 10 years. Their team and ours too are in Elementary and middle school today.

We’re 8 games in. We have enough body of work to judge the team. We beat really bad teams and lose to better quality teams.

We are 5--3. That is what needs to be judged. We won 3 games last year, 6 is our high water mark over the last 10 years. Instead of style points, look at the record vs previous decade. We should all be ecstatic as the program rebounds into not being a punch line! After that, let's shoot for relevant.

I wouldn’t worry about that now. The team is quite different than the team at the end of spring practices.

Nope, they do not give "style points" in football. But tat is a relevant comment at the end of the season. What this discussion is about is future games in light of recent history. In particular, Friday night.

That is the question. Evers contributed nothing of consequence to beating Rice. In fact it was in spite of Evers we won because Bell made a circus catch on a terribly thrown ball and Robinson broke out a big run. He missed guys all day, couldn’t run, turned over the ball…just absolutely horrendous. Maybe there is talent in there that Mora sees during the week, but it isn’t showing up on weekends.

NE is a very fortunate young man to have JM as his coach.
I like JM but most coaches would have moved on from NE at this point.

If we see the same results 1H vs. Georgia St, in a must win game, you must make the substitution to Joe.

If we don’t then just admit college football is ruined by NIL and the bigger paycheck will always win, otherwise funding gets cut.
