Providence Post Game Thread

Love being 20-1, 10-0 in BE, but man oh man do we have some work to do and important things to iron out if we want to reach the mountaintop this year…

We just cannot defend a team well that plays with pace and who can dribble drive from the top of the key.

Our FTs down the stretch continue to be abysmal.

Too many wasted possessions on offense with TOs and bad shot selection.

Fairly weak rebounding effort.

And when did our student section become so docile? The shots on TV were embarrassing. If you watched Duke and BYU games last night, our student section looked like they were at an intramural chess club match.

I’m hoping they actually get up to play in Omaha. Some of this is I think this team doesn’t respect the opponents in the BE. They didn’t look this bad OOC against better competition
Have we not gotten better or has the rest of the country’s best teams caught up?

When we score we don’t defend. When we defend we don’t score. Just do it at the same time.

However, PC is the worst type of bad team. They actually don’t suck. They have tons of talent offensively. Some of the buckets they scored weren’t because of bad defense. They were just talented buckets. Kim English is terrible.
Was just going to post something similar. I want nothing to do with Providence the rest of the year. They have the 3rd most talent in the league hands down. They have a very well balanced offense.

Win and move on. The rebounding lapses and free throw shooting prevented this from being a 12-14 point win.

Not a great defense - too many blow bys and reach ins, no rim protection or rebounding. We give up a LOT of open looks.

I know “certain posters” are mad at short leashes, but Ross and Stewart are giving us nothing on O and they’re good but not great on D. I’m not sure the answer, but as a coach you go back to the guys you trust even if they’re struggling.

We did hit our last 6 FTs.

An ugly win but still a win- may be the mantra of this iteration of UConn.

Again, Demary leads the way. The kid is just solid and tough.

Smith played some good minutes, but needs to clean up the open layups and free throws.

Need more out of Stewart/Ross regardless if Mullins plays or not.

Just need good consistent minutes from Ball. His wrist might be an excuse for his shooting, but the shot looks good off his hand. The wrist can't be an excuse for the poor passing and TOs.

Karaban looks tired or unhealthy. He just doesn't seem to have the same bounce. Something looks off. Still, he gets key rebounds and his passing is always a +.

Nice to see Reibe play well. Still, during his time at UConn, I want him to get a little more aggressive as he gets stronger and not always be shying away from contact.

Reed made some key plays down the stretch. Still, I'm want him coming out less and holding the ball for a few seconds.

Hopefully, this stretch of games is just the lull before the storm. They need to learn how to not let down when they start to build a lead.

Finally, give some credit to the kids for PC. They didn't give up and hung in there.

Head scratcher W.....Hurley is way too lenient with AK and Solo. Why we continued to run offensive sets for someone in a shooting slump and hurt wrist blows my mind. It didn't take long to realize we had a huge advantage down low and the ball should have went down there every trip down the floor.
Shooters shoot

I know the 2023 recruiting class was terrible overall, but its very disappointing two 6'7", fairly athletic wings that have been at a high level D1 program for 3 years have zero semblance of an offensive game. Jaylin and Jayden's lack of development is pretty bad at this point, they literally don't provide anything on offense.

I don’t think so mainly because he doesn’t have options. What is he going to do, sit them and play Stewart and Ross ? Both Ball and Karaban can make plays and score. When your bench can’t you need to just go with the guys who can even if they make bonehead plays.

Steph Castle made up for all of that lol

Not defending the way we’ve played lately but they have 3 pros even with Edwards out. They have legit offensive firepower, beat St Johns, Creighton almost us and Nova just in the last month. Really don’t want to see them at MSG.
