Providence Post Game Thread

What an insane game, fun to watch even if I thought we were doomed most of the game.

Only 3 bench points tonight, not as deep as we thought. Essentially only played 6 guys with Reibe spelling Reed here and there.

Ross only played 1 minute too which was surprising.

You always over react to 1 game, 1 play, etc. Relax. Ball will be fine.
Not one game though my man Hooper. Let's just put it this way, I'm taking Solo off the floor in any close game situations like tonight within the final 3 minutes. Not reliable. He's great as it comes to being in there and filling it up mid game, but I do not want that dude out there when it's time for good decisions. This isn't the first time Dan Hurley has put him on the bench for long stretches due to him not being a complete player.

Ross coming off injury.

Smith playing very little was a bit surprising.

I agree with this. Ball has played well many times this year and been the best UConn player several times. He was just lost in the second half of this one, and it was a smart decision by Hurley to go to Stewart tonight. Different players will have bad games on different nights. It doesn’t mean they are bad players. Ball is a critical part of this team.

Ball has come up big in close games throughout his career. This idea you can’t play him in big situations is reactionary.

Off the top of my head, Maui last year he made humongous shots. We lost. But he made huge clutch shots

The things this dude was saying about Ball just days ago, in a positive way, makes me think he seriously has the memory of a goldfish. Whatever just happened is the only thing that happened

That game was like watching a slow motion train wreck where somehow everyone survives. Terrible defense, bad decisions, lack of hustle on the boards, sloppy play, the worst layups I’ve seen…until they decided to play about 6-7 minutes of excellent basketball. Somehow that was enough. Silas was incredible. Mullins was so clutch late and in OT. Stew keeps making smart plays. Most everyone else is not going to like the tape. A gritty road W.

Amazing...

We played a lot better when we let Silas just go and create. Teams will try to muck it up and sticking with a slow scripted offense may not be best. Need to identity this on the fly.

Then when Providence keyed in on him in OT we ran back-breaking off ball stuff for Mullins and AK to bury them. Stewart’s find to Reed was salt in the wounds.

Why did Hurley get T’d up at the beginning of the second half?
We shot zero foul shots in the first half. Silas went to lay it up, and got bodied and crashed to the ground, yet no foul. Hurley was making a point as he walked off the floor with the ref to end the half and got t’ed up.

Glad everyone could hear the UCONN chants on TV. Lots

We didn’t have much to work with for a while but there was a solid UConn contingent at the game tonight and we all stayed (it was hilarious watching PC fans leaving early assuming they had won before the end of regulation, then early again in OT after they had watched us come back from the same deficit wirh as much time).

On a personal note I got a high five from Hurley and Alex when they were heading into the tunnel after the game (nothing better than getting a seat a PC season ticket holder sold!). No shame for this 45 year old.

Super fun game, the AMP was rocking for 38 minutes lol.

Did they have a beer night or discount special on beers tonight because it was UConn?

Hey it took newton a little to breakout, why can’t the same be said for Silas
If this turns out to be a turning point for Silas, it is way ahead of Newton's schedule. He struggled for most of his first year at UConn. Got hot toward the end of the season and rode that streak into the post season and the rest was history. I'm actually surprised Silas is doing so well so quickly. It is hard to run the Hurley/Murray offense. Glad we have him.
