Providence Post Game Thread

I noted that too. The most generous interpretation I could make to contort that statement into making some sense at face value is this: the three point arc is smaller in high school, leaving proportionally greater space between the sideline and three point line - so freshman who are used to taking corner threes from farther behind the line find themselves out of bounds in college.

No idea if that’s what he meant and he just failed to articulate it or if he was just saying words lol but I personally do enjoy both Donny and Fanta.
I think he meant that the 3 point line is smaller also, and I also enjoy listening to Donny

Shout out to John Fanta for his Emmy award winning commentary at the end. Love his enthusiasm and great lines which come out the best when fantastic plays are being made at exciting moments.
“Reed! The big bear found the last jar of honey!” Lol.

Also, “Karaban! An answer from Captain All-America!”

Gotta love the enthusiasm at least. Sort of a next-gen Gus Johnson.

I feel like something needs to be said about the AMP as a venue. It’s a decent Home Court environment, but other than that, it’s objectively terrible. Not having been in a while, I forgot how bad it is Picture all of the worst things about whatever we want to call the Hartford Civic Center on steroids. Narrow concourses, insufficient number of bathrooms, terrible concessions, hollow sound, a small video board, no visibility of in game stats, and the gentle incline makes it so that any seat in the upper section seems a mile away from the court. Everything about the place screams small time.

Isn't that appropriate for the program?

Fanta-Donny
I turned off the sound.
Fanta is fun.
I expect Donny, given his experience to be more analytical, providing perspective that only a guy with his experience would have. He seems much more conversational, wanting to hear himself talk. Also, seems like he can't help but be the "anti-homer" with regards to UConn(although he has gotten better. Love Donny the ex UConn player, but he seems to detract from the experience of watching a UConn game.

Not sure why so many of y’all dislike Donny. I prefer him over most other color commentators that do our games. It’s always cool when Stewart plays well when Donny is commentating.
I think it's partially the pairing with Fanta, who I really like, but they are both a bit over-enthusiastic and it's a bit much. Donny sounds better when paired with a drier, all-business play by play guy.

Thank you for bringing Powell's hair up because it was distracting me all night! Head's a puzzle and his barber could only figure out the edge pieces.

Carrying on a long history of horrific hair in Friartown.
So my googling reveals that Powell says this is a "Dallas Thing," whatever the hell that means... It's kind of the worst thing I've ever seen. It's funny, there's actually a Reddit thread going back to when Powell was at NCAT, wondering what the hell was happening w/ his hair. To his credit? he's always rocked this.

I get the impression Donny is not liked on this board. Maybe I'm biased because we attended UConn at the same time but I am a big Donny Marshal fan. To each his own.
I think everyone likes Donny in general, as a player and person, but his commentary is just off a lot. Another game I watched with him this week, end of game possession, a team missed the game winning shot but managed to foul the team that was ahead to extend the game. And he says "..everything went right on that possession". He was talking about making a quick foul, neglecting the fact that they missed the game winning shot. Last night when Mullins stepped out of bounds he laughed and said "Mullins high school gym must have been too small". Its a tense moment and that doesnt make sense. His high school gym would be too large if hes stepping out of bounds here.

You forgot the leaking roof.

1) I will never understand how any of you like Fanta. He's awful. Pair him with Donny, and I don't think you can have a more painful listen.

2) We had no business winning that game. We were lifeless in the first half with Tarris being absolutely horrible. Once desperation set in, we made play-after-play. So this was an enormous win for a variety of reasons. I'm shocked we came back, tbh.

3) It's insane that PC has 7 losses. As Hurley said, they have at least three or four guys who should be on NBA rosters. They are an extremely difficult cover. I think we are a very good defensive team. I don't think we have great individual defenders, save Silas sans fouls or Ross/Stew on certain days. The PC offense got pretty much whatever they wanted the entire game, including a wide-open look at the end of regulation.

4) For as much as we complain about officiating, they absolutely missed Tarris on the endline. If they call that, we may lose that game. I think that's the second game-changing miss call that we've gotten this year by my count. I can't remember the first, but there was definitely one. Maybe BYU?

5) The evolution of Stew into an uber intangible/glue guy is great to see. His statline was remarkably ordinary, but it was absolutely indispensable to this win. He's never going to be an alpha guy like many here thought. But his defense, passing, connectiveness, etc. is absolutely needed.

6) There's no team I want to beat more than PC. At the same time, I really like their collection of talent. English coached an excellent game until crunchtime when things got chaotic, and they just made crucial mistakes to let us come back. The clock management, timeout usage, shot selection... All of it was a disaster. It actually makes me have empathy for PC as that is a really, really talented roster, and unless something drastically changes, it is going to go to waste.

7) To whomever I argued with re: Braylon's shot selection, that is why he has a green light any time he has space. He is beyond explosive, and he just demoralizes a team. The PC board was basically saying any time he shoots, you just hope he misses. There aren't many guys that you say that about.

8) Silas has bounced back, huh? That was as dominant a floor game for a UConn PG in a long, long time. Newton had some big scoring nights for sure. But I don't remember him having games when he was hitting clutch shot after shot, playing smothering D, AND absolutely controlling the offense with his passing.

9) We were outscored 40-3 off the bench. That's crazy. This was the first game where it looked like the game was a little too fast for Reibe.

10) We still haven't seen our team put it all together just yet. And that's a good thing. This was a really important win for us to get better.
Great summary. Thanks for posting.

It's a popular Dallas haircut where he's from, close cropped hair on the front and sides with a bump at the back like a mullet. It doesn't work at all for Powell because he's bald.

All I can say is, I clicked on $10.99 package. When I went to watch game, said I needed premium package.
Same happened to me in December. I tried to cancel online but the cancel sub button did not work, thankfully I paid via PayPal so it was easy to just stop the monthly pymnt. Peacock informed my that they cancelled the account.

Peacock SUX.
