Providence Post Game Thread

Silas just had his Kemba performance. One of the best perfomances we've ever had from a point guard at UConn and we are the best point guard school in the country.

Some of the best defense you'll ever see. 23 points 15 assists, just 1 turnover, 4 steals and the game winner.

The whole team lacked composure tonight except for Silas. We get run off the court if it wasn't for him.

And for any people still thinking Mullins will be here for a second season, you're crazy.
And just two fouls.

I re-watched the last 3 minutes of the game and overtime and I was amazed at how many big time shots PC made, but was surprised that English didn't tell his team to foul with just under 40 seconds to go down by 3. Even if UConn used all of the clock and missed the shot, that would only give PC less than 5 seconds to put up a three. Would have made more sense to try to extend the game by fouling.

Edit: My bad. It's a 30 second shot clock, so PC would have had just under 10 seconds to work with if they were able prevent Uconn from scoring at the end of the shot clock. That left plenty of time on the clock to get a solid three-point shot off, which they were knocking down most of the night, to tie the game. With that said, Silas hit a huge bucket that made it a two possession game, sealing the win.

Solo has been playing like he is hot snot on a silver platter lately, and I am glad he got taken down a notch by Dam benching him at the end. I know this isn't a popular opinion though...
Yes, it’s unpopular to talk about UConn players as though you can’t stand them on a UConn message board. Such a brave stance you’ve taken

We were lucky that the shot blocking center Erhunmwunse got in foul trouble early. He was owning Reed in the paint. When he was out Reed went to town. Jones was killing us too until he went down and out with the shoulder injury. Nonetheless, a really tremendous come back OT game at of all places Providence! Shout out to John Fanta for his Emmy award winning commentary at the end. Love his enthusiasm and great lines which come out the best when fantastic plays are being made at exciting moments. He has a great future. Shout out also to Tyler Rings for Friar banner on taking Uconn to overtime LOL. You should get an award for that one!

I simply meant he has been c*cky at moments lately at times when he shouldn't and benching him might bring him down to earth for a moment. But I may also be delirious with the flu right now.

I think it’s fair to question if there’s some redundancy with Mullins/solo playing a lot of minutes together. This teams identity is defense, and Ross/Stewart are better on that end than Solo/Mullins, whichever of the latter is having a colder shooting day may need to sit for the sake of keeping up our quality defense and helping the bigs on the boards.

I guess we’re a good shooting team again as well. Shooting for us has been trending up outside of the Marquette game

We went 18-32. That’s absurd
And after a 5-24 in the last game. That's quite a swing. Hurley was right, a very good game follows a very bad game.

He wasn’t benched to send a message. He had a bad game, and when Mullins came back in that last time, he got insanely hot. Stewart was also a better matchup defensively and was fantastic.
They simply didn’t bring him back in because he wasn’t playing well, and others were.

This game was interesting because we didn't run full set most of the time to get looks, we played at a much faster pace today. This is really helpful in getting shooters hot, but also played into PC's hands a bit as they also found a flow. Not sure where the right balance is, but one of the things that I always feels separates us is the ability to run the shot clock and execute a full set. This tends to mentally slog the opposition.

I know Stewart won't get the acclaim as he only had 3 points but he was huge on big hustle plays and playing great D. He allowed us to play without Ball. What a game by him and Demary, Mullins. Dawgs. Demary coming out party for sure. He is just solid and he needs to take control of the game. He is the only player who can really find his own offense right now. Mullins will eventually.
and his three was critical

It was so much more - bouncing passes off Reibe's feet, not boxing out, so many mistakes all over the place. He's simply a liability outside of hunting shots. Lacks intangibles. I've said it for awhile, but I would not be surprised if his time on the floor shrinks as Mullins settles in and Ross/Stew absorb time at the 3, shifting Mullins to the 2. It was pretty clear tonight who Dan Hurley trusts when it matters.
You always over react to 1 game, 1 play, etc. Relax. Ball will be fine.

Missed the game. Was the D bad? They were 14/24 from 3. Thank goodness we kept pace
Defense was pretty bad at times in my opinion but a bunch of 25% 3P shooters from Providence bench shot 75% tonight. Uconn has trouble with drives to hoop, and bad offense and stupid TOs lead to some transition baskets for Providence
