Providence Post Game Thread

I just played the UConn Fight Song on TouchTunes at Murphys Pub in Providence.

You have to beat UConn. Because this team will not quit. Donnie nailed it when he said Providence had to keep pouring it and not try to hang on. They tried. But it wasn't enough.

absolutely incredible game. huge confidence booster for SDJ. Mullins is a total assassin. there is not a shot he could take that i would watch live and say: "oooof, i wish he hadn't done that."

I'm also totally aware that if not for that Friar stripping the ball from the other Friar (Erhunmwunse?) right before a non-contested slam, I would be totally despondent right now and mildly worried about this team's future

It was so much more - bouncing passes off Reibe's feet, not boxing out, so many mistakes all over the place. He's simply a liability outside of hunting shots. Lacks intangibles. I've said it for awhile, but I would not be surprised if his time on the floor shrinks as Mullins settles in and Ross/Stew absorb time at the 3, shifting Mullins to the 2. It was pretty clear tonight who Dan Hurley trusts when it matters.

It was just a bad game, he was a step slow all night. Maybe he was sick, who knows. His time isn’t shrinking.

The true MVP was me...realized during the 2nd half the game was on peacock so I turned it on when we cut it to ~5 then w just over 3min to go they went up 11 and I decided I was bad luck so I turned it off and went back to following the game cast. Cue the comeback

Solo's biggest issue is his reflexes and jumps. And Providence had some really shifty players that had excellent quick steps. It felt like he was always chasing. It's absolutely why Stew had to be out there.

I wouldn't write off Ball yet. We have seen improvement on D and driving the ball. He just reverted to his old self and was unplayable this game. I'm sure he will rebound and learn from this.

I'm not writing him off - I'm fully understanding of what he brings to the team and his limitations, limitations I've noticed with him for awhile. With Mullins absorbing a lot of the "shooter" role, and him being such a liability in other phases, I can see him checking down a bit on PT. We don't need two flame throwers out there, especially if Silas & AK are hitting. We need guys that can play defense.

That's the best basketball game I've watched all year. Hard to believe that Providence team we saw tonight is only 8-7. They looked every bit as good as most of the big OOC teams we played in Nov and Dec (Excluding Arizona).

Demary and Mullins were awesome.

1. The resiliency and will to win was tremendous. Look at that graph. So many times we cut the lead down to only see it extend back up. To have the resiliency to win and not run out of gas is truly impressive.

2. That version of Silas is a monster! We all see the stats, but the defense, the steals, deflections and poise were amazing.

3. The bringer of rain. Enjoy him while we can.

4. Stewart was an unsung hero.

5. Hurley with some guts for rolling with Stewie over Solo in crunch time.

6. Tarris came alive in the second half.

One of the best games I’ve seen in a while!

So much happened during that last 3 minutes of regulation. There was a sequence where they traded 3s late, but the PC 2-on-1 where a teammate stripped the ball with his shoulder what would have been a sure layup was huge.

Lots of missed PC shots, PC turnovers, big time UConn 3s and offense rebounds...what an amazing comeback! Wow!

It's the opposite of what happened against SJU. Sometimes being the road team in those situations helps. Providence despite being the underdog and started feeling that pressure. Being at home added to that. At msg they didn't feel that pressure.

Props to Tarris for sticking with it. He was flat out getting punked in the first half by Oswin and he wasn't playing D or rebounding. Oswin went to the bench and Tarris went to work. He played a lot of time with 4 fouls and played smart staying on the court. He got great position to get the offensive rebound and finish to send it to OT.

Ended up with 20 pts, 8 boards, 2 blocks, 3 steals. Could've hung his head after nothing was going his way and he didn't.

He had a bad game...

Dude has been playing markedly better D and just generally solid all year long, to the point of being in many an AA conversation. Hurley is a great coach and will ride the hot hand - it clearly wasn't solo tonight, but he'll be fine.

Because he could not stay in front of anyone, his defense had improved this year. Dreadful tonight

That is where I'm so happy to see Stewart play huge for us this game. Remember last year Stewie couldn't guard a chair and now he is there with Ross and Demary as our best defensive players. I'm so proud he worked on this part of his game in the offseason.

and fubotv lost nbc deal so I have been able to watch all the nbc football games on peacock too. The quality of football stream also way better than fubo or comcast
