Providence offer

I think the conference has TV rights to the home game, so while PC @ UConn would be a CBS covered game, the reverse is not true.

I may be entirely wrong here, but that's my understanding.

That's the basis of every single OOC contract. Same as Notre Dame on NBC. Only ND home games are on NBC.

Nobody really knows yet. My guess is CBS would require 3 big OOC games and 3 games vs whoever is the most attractive match ups within our conference.
Again, my guess is UConn will rotate PC, G'town, St Johns & 'Nova as much as they can. If home and home are required my guess is UConn & PC play a home in home 2 out of every 8 years.

CBS contract is for 12 games, not 6 total.

CBS only has right to home games, not road games.

Ok, then I now fully see the dilemma, I guest it comes down to if CBS would take a PC game.

If PC rises toward the top of the BE, I'm sure they would. Looks like 1/2 the UConn fanbase at least wants to continue playing.

Another thing to consider: CBS network is sometimes regional. So only the East Coast would get the game, which makes Providence an even better candidate if it can compete for the BE championship.

UConn basketball has historically had few games with its former conference members once they are no longer in the same league. The Huskies far and away most played opponent is former Yankee Conference rival Rhode Island. The teams have played 145 games with UConn leading the series 77-68. The last game however was played all the way back in Dec-2000. The 2nd and 3rd most played opponents are also YC teams with the New Hampshire series at 116 (Uconn leads 91-25) and UMass at 108 (UConn leads 69-39). It has been more an exception to play these teams rather than the rule since UConn joined the Big East in 1979. The series with the Friars is far less games at 72 (UConn leads 44-28) than those with the Yankee Conference teams. Should Providence be treated differently than these other former league partners?

Yes, because UConn's conference situation is different then at the time they left the Yankee conference.

I know this has been said somewhere in the 7 pages of these thread but what is the upside for UCONN? I do not see one- we beat them and we are supposed to- we don't and we do not even get an RPI bump.

Fishy has mentioned this in almost every single thread on this subject. UConn when all is said and done it's about putting fannies in the seats. PC gives you that, although I know many on here think that Vermont, UNH, Quinnipiac, UCF, Tulsa, ECU, Tulane, and SMU will have the same draw as PC.

Eric Murdock showing Tate George's gal a good time?
Uconns team cryng that pc wouldn't stop dunking on them a few years back?
Calhoun moving the game back to gampel after a few beat downs at the XL
How about holding our own on the court over the past decade
How about Ryan Gomes, kris Dunn and Brandon Austin?

Uhhhhh! We didn't have a scholarship for Dunn. So sick of that one.

Didnt have a scholly for a homegrown McDs AA...that's your story?
C'mon man. No one is buying that...you got beat. Own it.

Good lord. Did you hear about what we did with Drummond? We didn't have it. We constantly discussed the fact that we just didn't have a way to get him unless we ran off an integral part of the team.

I don't remember putting much effort into him. Nor, were I him, would I have been that interested in playing on a team with Shabazz and Boatright returning, and Calhoun coming in.

And, yeah, we didn't have a scholly for him given that we only had 10.

He was a great get for you guys. All things being equal, he may have gone to PC. Let's even say he would have. But I don't think we put much effort into getting him (for the above enumerated reasons), nor will I be concerned that we missed him, ever. The circumstances didn't align.

Maybe they could rotate, one year in Storrs, one in Providence, then one in Brooklyn or at the Prudential Center?
I would recommend one at Gampel, one at the XL Center and one at the Dunk.

Your team got beat on the court 15 times this season including twice by UConn. PC hasn't been to the NCAA tournament since 2004. So you landed a good recruit. Big deal. Where did it get you? For a fan of a really mediocre team, you sure are arrogant.

Just heard that UConn has indeed chickened out. Big surprise there. UMass all over again. Your rival school is apparently Cincinnati, wow. And fans wonder why UConn has no team that can actually be considered without argument its rival.

UMass all over again? OK I guess. How did that turn out for UMass? UConn?

I heard Kentucky chickened out of a home-and-home with Stonybrook. Cowards.

Who the hell cares? Umass all over again? What does that even mean?

So now you're a total troll. "I now fully understand the dilemma..." turns into, "I will be a total troll." Not ever taking you seriously again, you don't deserve it.

Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Georgetown to name three. But let's be honest with ourselves...you come to troll on our board, you consider us a rival. It does not work the other way around. I had to be reminded by the basketball schedule coming out each year that providence was even in our conference. No one here is shedding a tear about our historic rivalry which stopped being a relevant game for us in the 80s.

twice in overtime to a team that was picked last in the league that many of you claim to forget is in the league.

this is exactly true for pc vs. uri and they still play every year home and home.

with this sort of thinking... uconn may not be getting the games you all expect in a home and home with the crap conference situation.

Huh?

This argument about beating UConn in the last decade is irrelevant. So many of you PC fans claim UConn was bottom of the barrel in the early 1980s, and yet UConn owned PC back then. It's a totally hypocritical and contradictory argument. If we were bottom of the barrel then, how come UConn consistently beat PC? Answer that.
