Phil nolan commits

I was pretty much sold after I saw his name and read that he committed.

The whole part about being tall and able to play basketball was just gravy.

I say save the scholarship, unless we get Opbeka i don't think there is anything else left in this class. Save one for a stud down the road.

This class still has the beast that is Devonta Pollard. We should be going after Devonta big time with or without Obekpa committing. We will still have 4 scholarships for next year with Evans graduating so we will still have plenty of scholarships for big time recruits for next year.

P.S. Phil Nolan is already an upgrade to Wolf and Olander put together so this was a very good signing. He's 6'10 who can shoot and has great athleticism, and he has the confidence that he believes he's a great player and has been undervalued. I like it. Good signing for Calhoun now lets get another surprise with Devonta and Obekpa for this year.

.-.
This should, but of course won't, put an end to the CALHOUN HAS TO SAY PUBLICLY WHAT HE'S GOING TO DO nonsense.

What matters is what he says to the recruits, not what he says to Dom Amore. This should have been obvious based on the last couple offseasons.

Before everyone goes orgasmic that we signed a new recruit, does anyone know what kind of grades this kid has? I'd hate for him to be part of the square root club and bring down the APR any further.

Don't know much about the kid but the fact that he's boarderline top 100, 6'10, and can play PF or C is good enough for me to call this great news.

Welcome aboard, Phil. Would be nice to add one more big heading into next season.

I hear he got a B+ in Social Studies, a B- in Creative Writing, a C+ in Trigonometery.......

What are we, his guidance counsilor?

I was going to write something about the committment, but chris bosh just made me fall out of my chair laughing. That is too funny.

If he is half as good as the last Milwaukee area recruit who also played HS ball in the Northeast, I will be overjoyed!;)

.-.
just read borges's interview......sounds to me that ollie played a huge role in this. this sort of came out of left field, but the more i read about this kid, like reminding people of chris bosh, has to make people excited. more importantly, i think if we read between the lines a bit, it only strengthens the belief that the staff is telling kids that ollie is def the next coach.

Looks like a nice late pick up and he definitely fills a need but let's calm down with the Bosh comparisons, Bosh was top 5 coming into college.

From UConnBall and Chevtheman:

"As far as his game, Phil runs the floor well, rebounds, blocks shots, has a nice mid range jumper and can finish around the basket. Reminds many a little of Chris Bosh."

It said in the article that he can even shoot the 3? After drummond not being able to shoot the anything I feel we have a lot to look forward to.

he just needs to put on some, (or a lot) weight and he has endless potential

.-.
Maybe ol' Jimmy knows what he's doing guys. Maybe he knows better than the rest of us.

If I had to bet on Jimmy or the Boneyard, I'm with Jimmy.

Welcome to Husky Hoops Phil! You WILL enjoy the ride! I am very happy to see this happen; but your comment about JC is what made the whole thread worth the read.

GO HUSKIES!!!

And Drummond could handle, pass, and lead the break like a guard, Roscoe was a deadly 3 point shooter, Souley had 3 point range, Kirk King was similar to Scottie Pippen, and Dion Carson was a "freak of nature" defensively. Be careful reading the ridiculous scouting reports. Just from the video he looks like a big body who could fill out who has some athleticism to him. Works for me.

Yeesh. With a HS track record that only Nate Miles could love I will buy into this kid when he dribbles onto campus.

if he can catch the ball, pass, rebound, dunk and block shots from the beginning ill be happy... still very pumped especially reading about uconn being his dream school and the possibility of a ban has no bearing on his decision

I'm just happy that someone wants to come to storrs rather than leave.
After that, he's tall. That's good.
Anything he does on the court his freshman year, including pushing wolf and olander to play better, is gravy.

I read the quote earlier too, don't expect Chris Bosh 2.0

Seriously. He's tall, he's left handed, and he can shoot a little. That could be describing Chris Bosh...and it also could be describing Tyler Olander.

Very intriguing athleticism in limited clips. Has a lot of Bosh-lite in him. Athletic, can put ball on deck and slender southpaw. Exciting pickup. Hopefully Hilton II

All the schools he was looking ionto were legitimate schools. Two Wisconsin public schools, St. Benedict's in New Jersey, a Prep school.

Very different than Miles who went to some fly-by-nighters run by basketball coaches.

On the other hand, maybe it's a concern that he intended to transfer to two of those schools but changed his mind.

if tennessee was looking into him and oklahoma they have problems also so it can't be bad

"Larry Bird is not about to walk through that door..."

Considering how messed up things are right now and the fact that our only post players are Olander and Wolf, 6-10 with a pulse walking through our door is a welcomed sign.

We do need to keep our expectations in check. Most freshman bigs, even ones ranked a lot higher, struggle to contribute their freshman year. Unfortunately, Nolan is going to have to give us something day 1.

Huge props to the staff for landing one of the best available bigs this late under these difficult circumstances. I thought we would end up with a high major reach, but he seems like a legit major conference level talent.

We all needed this type of good news. Thanks JC, KO and of course, Phil Nolan. Welcome to the UConn family.

The one thing we have going for us next year is a big blank slate of PT and guys that want it. I still think a lot of the reason AO and Roscoe are gone is because of the way they were treated after winning the title PT wise that is. They wanted to start and they wanted significant minutes. Not saying they are right or wrong, but it was a big factor IMO. Drummond coming messed with AO helping to cause the problem for him. Roscoe rode the bench a lot early on.

Reminds me of Cliff Robinson as a frosh. Now if only we could get Cliffy to come and be the big man's coach...
