First, some poor devil posted the news here first and had his post deleted for his trouble

Let's not do that to prop up these Frankenstein-like legacy threads. It's such bad form.

Second, I'm shocked he made it.

He deserved it and it's nice to see the voters decided to look a little deeper than simply making it the usual ACC rewards program.

This thread will easily pass 2000 replies and 250,000 views before AG suits up in flag blue. Think about that.

Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, and North Carolina usually get 10 between them. How many this year?

Congrats to him! Surprising as his rankings weren't generally high enough but someone thought he deserved it so maybe the recruiting experts should have had him higher.
Which is weird. I think earlier in the year 247 had him at like 28-30 and he's just been gradually dropping, all the while he's been getting rave reviews from virtually every scout on his defense and playmaking.

The day after he gets the McDAA selection he goes out and scores 31 points:

Alterique Gilbert, Miller Grove (GA), 6-0 PG, 2016: The day after he was named to the 2016 McDonald’s All-American game, the future UConn Husky went to his happy place on the hardwood and did the things that made him the all-star he is. Gilbert attacked the rim with his trademark blow-by dribble, drilled a couple of pull-up threes that he’s accustomed to doing and shined as a shot-blocking 6-foot guard and on the ball hawk on defense. So, you know, a typical day at the office.

Was honestly not expecting Alterique Gilbert to be able to do this so frequently, but it seems like he'll be able to play above the rim similar to Boatright:

Dropped from 5* to 4* in latest ESPN 100. I think this is our 3rd straight recruit with an 89 rating from ESPN (Dham, Jalen and Alterique).

Holy crap! Kid's got Boat's D and vertical, with Kemba's speed, and a decent shot and passing ability. Wow. I was amazed by his stuff before I thought he could jump out of the gym.

View attachment 11749 I thought this picture was insane, dude is maybe 6'0 and his head is like 4 inches from the rim.

Whats especially crazy about this picture is how he must have gotten there. Was he running backwards and jumped with the offensive player? Did he come from the baseline? Its crazy. OR is it just the picture playing tricks and they are actually near the free throw line?

Other good news for the AAC: Houston may be gaining momentum with fellow 5 star McD AA Jarrett Allen.

I hate to do this because it seems like we do it with every PG recruit, but he has so much Kemba, Bazz and Boat in him that it's scary. His rhythm is like Kemba, his shot is like Shabazz and his athleticism is like Boat. This kid is going to be a very special player for us.

I always absolutely HATE posts comparing players like this. However, I'm finding it hard not to agree on this one. High expectations for this youngster.

Just so we're being fair to both he and Shabazz, he doesn't have Shabazz's shot. His prep stats have him as a 33% 3 point shooter. Scouts have said he's more of a shot maker than a pure shooter. His shot, even aesthetically, is more like Kemba's than Shabazz. Doesn't mean that he won't be a great player, I just wouldn't count on 3s being a big part of his game as a freshman.
