Baylor crushes either team tonight.

Baylor was supposed to crush everyone a couple of times in the last 6 years and usual lost to teams that had no where near their talent. ND is much better than oregon and they almost beat Baylor.

ND will win. That's what makes the last 2 years so gross. McGraw is scum. Cannot stand that woman.

I think he was caught off guard by Azura going pro tbh. That completely changes how this year's group could play.

Most of his teams only play 7 players max in the tournament and big games.

He has notoriously stingy recruit requirements. With parity improving, I think he needs to relax those a little. He still has his pick, but there isn't a wide enough pool of these kids to go around.

I really want to see him get some of the junk yard dog types they've had in the past. Someone with a little edge and nastiness.

100% agree.

McGraw is scum but not a bad coach obviously knows basketball. But the twin towers. We haven’t seen that since lobo and Walters shared the floor for a short time.

Baylor looks like the better team but I dont really trust Mulky in big games, I would trust ND if its a close game.

I genuinely believe that McGraw doesn’t like Geno simply because he’s a man who’s super successful coaching the women’s game. She has a history of man bashing.

Why? She plays with Paige, loves it, and they are great friends. I can see it happening.

Geno obviously still nails the #1 kid often. Let's be honest, he's really only had one rough year of recruiting misses.
Just the vibe.

They didn't choke tonight, ND was choking all game by keeping them in it. They choked the past 2 years.

As someone else said KLS is their best player and that's a problem. She's probably right near the top in all-time scoring and I'm guessing UConn has had 30 better players than her.
Napheesa is 3rd all time and KLS 5th on UConn scoring list. Regardless they are all time players just not grinders. They also did not have moriah or Renee or sue or Jen or maya or anyone getting them good looks. No knock on dangerfield not being a super Star but ......

I’ve always said, Geno needs a great guard to win. He’s a guard coach, bigs almost don’t matter with him.

He doesn’t have one.

Espn3 had a taurasi/Bird commentary. Those two are a riot. On about the ninth missed layup, in the second quarter, DT said “They aren’t going to win this game.” I felt the same. You can’t miss bunnies and expect to win against great teams.

I knew she must be near the top of the list in scoring and I wasn't being hyperbolic about around 30 other UConn women being better.

All things aside and silly to complain with a natty and final fours. But. These girls just lack that kill switch.

Not to be a turd so for fun I started putting that top 30 list together and they would land in the 18-25 range. I can’t put Anne strother above them but gabby and Kia are. They’re better than Farris but she was an all around stud.

You could probably make the case they’re a little bit higher on the list, but I think the 18-25 range is fair considering their big game woes. There definitely haven’t been 30 better players, though.

To me it's more about the nauseating prospect of a school which is so high & mighty that they have their own network covering their home football games enjoying more success in other sports at UConn's expense while we're just barely trying to hold on to relevance (post CR), and the women's hoops team has always been our ace in the hole. UConn will still get top-notch recruits as long as Geno is there and will be in the annual running for the title, but once he retires . . . . . . not so sure anymore. Tennessee was once the standard in women's hoops and they have not been the same since the Pat Summit era.

David be careful here. They should be in 3 yet again since there are only 6 teams with a chance, not the same world or close. When the men get 15 out of 20 years the #1 HS recruit and 2-3 more in the Top 25 I will then hold the men to this standard also but there's no Auburn or Texas Tech in the womens ever. It's not the same yet our men aren't sniffing anything outside of 9th place in the AAC so no where near the success, so see what you're saying a little. Doesn't mean we can't watch a game and discuss the obvious a little.

You can’t have the top of the class, top five ,
5 star kids all the time. Plus , when those types of girls transfer you don’t replace them.
He’s gonna have to recruit hungry 3 /3.5 star level kids sometimes. Adjust to the rising level of competition.

Have you seen the bench play? I assume they are 3-4 star players but often get waxed by the bad AAC teams when put into blowouts. I think his focus on “high character” kids leaves him with a very small recruiting pool.

So, I've got 29 players ahead of Samuelson...
Bird, Abrosimova, Maya Moore, Stewart, Tina Charles, Dolson, Lobo, Shea Ralph, Gabby Williams, Swin Cash, Asjha Jones, Mosqueda-Lewis, Tamika Williams, Tiffany Hayes, Taurasi, Barbara Turner, Montgomery, Sales, Hartley, Jefferson, Tuck, Nurse, Rizzotti, Kelly Faris, Bascom, Kalana Greene, Wolters, Jamelle Elliott, Collier.

I’d take out nurse, Greene, and Collier is debatable. Otherwise I agree completely.

Geno’s emphasis on high quality kids isn’t holding him back, women’s basketball is just too heavy. The difference between the best few players in a class and the rest is staggering. If you don’t have one of those handful of players, you won’t win.

And people tend to think Geno gets everything - always, but he doesn’t. Muffet Staley, Mulkey. Plus schools like Duke, Stanford etc..(and regional schools) are always capable of landing a huge recruit. That isn’t as much competition as the men have, but there is also significantly less talent to go around.

It's such a Connecticut phenomenon that whenever the women's basketball team is criticized that the men's basketball team is immediately brought up.

Can you imagine in any other state or any other sport saying, ya know that State U women's soccer team just didn't have it tonight, and the reply being oh yeah? Well what about State U's Men's team??

KLS was much more rounded than many of the bigs you compare her to as well as a few others so maybe at least unfair comparisons. And we do know she played with less great players than many of those did. She's certainly Top 20 but to get closer it would be a tough comparison. Fact is she did a lot more on the court than many of those listed. Nonetheless a good argument for them all.
