Forgot to add wolf of wall st, saving private Ryan and Django unchained. I’d watch all these multiple times.

I didn't see a mention for Sideways but it's probably my favorite movie.

A few I can think of in no particular order:

Sideways
The Apartment
Born Yesterday
Planes, Trains & Automobiles,
The Matrix
2001: A Space Odyssey
Lawrence of Arabia
Paths of Glory
Inception
Pulp Fiction
Dr. Strangelove
Auntie Mame
Infernal Affairs
Good Will Hunting

Really enjoy reading others' lists and seeing worthy contenders, even a couple I may have forgotten. But I decided not to second guess myself or grandly over think it. In the end, these are movies I either have or would watch multiple times, and would encourage others to see if they haven't already, no more and no less.

Key thing is that I put my 16 into the Google form, and I encourage others to do the same. Good enough is good enough.

An alternate curiosity would be movies either here or elsewhere highly lauded that you dislike or actively resist. I've seen some in this thread.

Then again, I probably don't want to court people saying, "Your choice sucks," so I'll simply offer that it was gratifying during first run that two guys in the same row as me & my then GF similarly snickered through "The English Patient," until we were pretty much full-on MST3K by the last 45 minutes, which made it a good time.

Not in my top 16 but a couple of 80's true crime movies I've always loved are At Close Range and State of Grace. Crazy stories and Oldman, Penn, and Walken at the top of their games.

Midnight Run really was a classic. I forgot that one but Grodin and De Niro had great chemistry together. I had the pleasure of meeting Grodin in a one on one setting and got to talk with him for a couple hours. He was nothing but pleasurable and willing to discuss all his movies.

Your mention of Grodin reminded me of one of his early movies, "The Heartbreak Kid", with Eddie Albert and Cybill Shepherd. Great flick. Albert steals the movie.

One very funny ancedote about Braveheart is after it's initial release several extras lined up as warriors ready to attack can be seen in the background wearing sunglasses. Lol
