Somewhat bringing it back :D, I'd argue that Brown and Dylan were not great singers. and Hendrix (The Jimi Hendrix Experience) and Springsteen (E Street Band) were not solo artists.

Speaking of Dylan. His touring band in the mid 60s was The Band. How has Levon Helm not been mentioned?
Springsteen does have a solo album. “Tunnel Of Love” is a solo album. He may have others but that is one that I know for sure and it’s probably why I’ve never heard him play anything from it when I’ve seen him in the dozen or so times I have. Great album, very different.

Nebraska pops to mind when I think of a Springsteen solo album. He did play Tunnel of Love songs back when he toured without the E street band.

storrsroars should start another thread where it's just him discussing and posting video clips of all the terrible music he likes.

I'm going to throw Rivers Cuomo from weezer in there, a fellow former Connecticut resident and Uconn fan. Listen to Say It Ain't So, The Greatest Man That Ever Lived, and The British Are Coming. Shows some range.

Chicago was just a poor, lame man's Blood Sweat and Tears.
More soul, better musicians, better lead singer.
You sound just like my 7th grade music teacher. But Chicago had more good songs.

How is Springsteen NOT still writing relevant music now??? Well, he isn’t 70... he’s mid-60s and he’s taking a break bc he’s doing his Broadway show. But he’s still writing a new solid album every few years.

Springsteen hasn't written anything worth listening to since The Rising. Thankfully Patti let him start doing Rosalita again a few years back because without that and Jungleland, his concerts would be a total bore.

Unlike pretty much 90% of the posters here, I didn't stop living in the 70s and I don't automatically love an album or artist because the critics and all my friends do.

I'll take a solid power pop song over a jam band pretty much every time. And I love "overproduction" (a stupid critic's word) like early Bruce or Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" stuff. So sue me.

"Tunnel of Love" is a fantastic Dire Straits song and a total crapfest of a Springsteen solo album :p

I'm on a roll now, keep setting me up for easy layups.

I disagree While a lot of Springsteen's newer material is not his best work imo, he's still pretty damn great in concert and plays many of his best songs. The band is tight, each show is different, and no one expends more energy on stage than Bruce. Amazing at his age.

Sound very much like you are "one of the critics"

I should get paid for this!

All "critic" means is someone offering an opinion. You're a critic too, simply by stating you think Springsteen is still relevant.

The telltale sign that you are trying too hard is that you are unable to say what you like without trying to put down what other people like. If you liked something simply because you liked it, that would be fine. But that’s not why you like things. You always state what you like in contrast to what you believe the lemmings like, so you can try and show your “more discriminating” tastes.

Good music is whatever moves you. If that’s not enough for you and you have to criticize what moves other people in order for you to like something, I maintain that you like it for the wrong reasons.

And you don’t have license to criticize Trump voters with the way we both know you have tried play both sides of that fence. You actually helped enable him with your avowed hipsterism that left you too cool to pick a candidate who had a chance to win. Again, all you want to do is criticize both sides by showing that you are cooler by refusing to make a choice that mattered.

Tl;dr: storrsroars has a conscience, 8893 does not.

storrsroars just reeks of the fedora wearing guy who likes a song/band but once they get popular and start making money he hates them all while making a point of telling everyone he liked them/discovered them before they got lame.

Is it any wonder he expounds on the qualities of coffee beans crapped out by a monkey?

Springsteen is not boring remotely. And he is amazing live. That’s the key.

Never said the Boss was boring. He's just not trendy. Not a hipster pick.
I love Bruce. He's been doing it for close to 50 years now

Now now. You went too far. You know I'm on record here many, many times stating that civet coffee is indeed crap. Never sold it, never recommended it, never will.

I'll allow y'all to have fun with me, but won't stand for outright lies and defamation.

Anyway, the whole lot of you are coming across as solid conservatives when it comes to music. I imagine y'all like the same stuff as Mike Pence.

That’s why storrsroars hates him.

No alt credibility

I've seen Bruce 3x. Why would I want to pay >$75+/tix for an aging act that plays fewer of the songs I want to hear and is of declining quality? First time I saw Bruce it was amazing. Second time it was OK. Third time, I asked why would I go a fourth?

Better than reeking of patchouli.

Anyway, you really need to work on your hat knowledge.
