OT: Notre Dame declines bowl bid

Everyone is spinning it to fit their narrative. Bama's name recognition and history got them in, like Notre Dame doesn't have unbelievable name recognition and history. Miami doesn't deserve it because the ACC sucks. Notre Dame was left out because they don't have a conference and this will force them to join a conference. Bama got in because the SEC is evil and controls college sports...

Yep. That is where I sit. No matter who you are advocated for in this scenario, admit you feel it's the best of of a flawed bunch. And admit the process is flawed and the humans have bias.

I'm old enough to remember when the NCAA first allowed multiple bids from a conference in the NCAA tournament and increased the number of at-large bids. There were some complaints from schools who were left out (who would be three or four seeds today) claiming they were more deserving than some other school. The most common response from the media (sports media then was miniscule compared to today) and others was "if you're fighting a few other schools that also hadn't done enough to qualify prior to the last spots being selected you haven't done enough".

Nobody that was left out has anyone to blame but themselves.

Irish got hosed, pure and simple. Arguably playing the best football now. The Committee saved face by putting the “U”Convicts in and having at least one ACC team in the 12. But putting Bama in over ND? NFW. Bama is not a CFP team.
Travesty.

It’s a 12 game season, next time try winning on August 31st, then ND controls its own destiny. Whats next, ND gets an invite every year because they are ND? Show up, play, win is the solution. ND in a conference is going to be a lot harder.

I just listened to Pete Bevacqua on Dan Patrick show. Seems to be some bad blood now between ND and ACC claiming relationship is strained. He didn’t disclose the particulars but it would appear to be related to Miami IMO

He also said that opting out of a bowl game was the players’ decision. And no disrespect to Pop Tarts Bowl or pop tarts since Pete loves them particularly brown sugar.

If ND wanted to make a statement you play the game and you turn down interviews with ESPN and you run up the score on your opponent that's making a statement. Doing the uncomfortable thing is making a statement. It's comfortable to turn the bowl bid that's not making a statement.

They’re big mad in South Bend

Ohhh, poor golden domers feeling blue cuz they got dissed and pissed. Go ahead, leave the all cretins crew, burn it all down...imma gonna get some popcorn and watch the blaze of glory...

The ACC should let the babies walk. ND has one sport that brings value and they hold it over everyone’s head. Let them dangle in the wind.

Where’s ND? Hard to believe people weren’t glued to the TV for ND-Purdue

FWIW, ND drew 3.93 million for the season

ND issues statement.

ND to dump NCAA After CFP Snub!

"They picked Miami, a team we lost to? The system is fundamentally broken," says ND. “Our new Plan is to form the College Football Papacy CFP2. We will host our own 4-team playoff every year and ND is automatically in, regardless of record. Should we lose in the first round, we are automatically advanced to the final game. Why? Because we are Notre Dame. The reason is the reason, suck it”

Part of me thinks that the ND - ACC chaos could open up a door for UConn in the ACC. But a larger part of me, knowing how the NCAA works, will just assume that they would make new commercials saying "the P3" about 5 minutes after the ACC collapsed...

They are acting like they are the first team in history to get left out. I get it, I really do. While I have zero care for them, I do believe they are better than Alabama and Oklahoma. I also think that the coaching situation at Ole Miss probably makes them better than them as well. And we all know they are better than the G5 teams, but everyone knew how that would work ahead of time. And yes, they got a really bad no call against them at the end of the Texas A and M game. But enough with the crying about anger towards the ACC and all that. They already get more special treatment than they deserve.

I love every second of the ND bashing. My favorite is that BYU and Texas both were snubbed too, probably worse than ND, and they are both playing in bowl games. They make ND look that much more foolish. I always cheer against ND, no matter who they play; now I will cheer against them even more.

Notre Dame to only play games on the moon in the new college football Musk division. Winner of the Musk division will be national champions of the moon and earth.

This is why Alabama is in and ND is out. Everyone is hating on Notre Dame, but the real enemy threatening the survival of football as we know it is the Big Ten and the SEC.

The SEC and the Big Ten are in the drivers seat and they know that they are in a power position to dictate. They will take full control in the next few years. Their first step next year will be a demand that the CFP expands to 16 teams with them getting a guaranteed 10 slots in the playoffs.

Universities who aren’t in the Big Ten or SEC should ban together and decide that they will have their own end of season tournaments for all sports, and ban the Big Ten and SCC from participating. Let the Big Ten and SEC rot on their vine, where they only get to play each other.

Notre Dame would be a dangerous team in the playoffs if they got in. But the fact of the matter is they were always aware of the landscape but chose to continue the delusion that they are bigger than the rest of the sport, the NCAA, and their conference "partner". When you go on that crusade you'd better be nearly perfect and play a challenging schedule. That didn't happen and that's why they're out.

The Pop Tart bowl is 2 days after Christmas in Orlando. That means missing Christmas with the family, unless moving the celebration to Orlando. Apparently the players did not want to do that.
They could have taken the kids that wanted to play, and said, we are here to reward some players who have stuck with the program and want playing time, we are not here to win, the game means nothing.
They do not need the money, they do not need the recruiting exposure, they do not need reaffirmation, what is the benefit in playing in this game, if not enough players want to play?

They sound pretty needy to me.
