OT: Notre Dame declines bowl bid

what?
If Alabama wasn't Alabama they wouldn't be in. They deserved it the least imo.
If ND weren't ND, no one would he carrying their water over being passed over.

People are claiming name recognition amd brand is what got Bama in.

ND played a trash schedule and best no one inside the top 20 all year.

Bama had a lower floor los9ng to a turd on FSU but also showed a higher ceiling.

I call partial BS on the "they thought the season was over two weeks ago" comment. At a minimum FSU, Auburn and Rutgers didn't lose their seventh games until last weekend.

If they've "scattered", I hope they make it back to campus for finals.
That assumes they take real classes.

Let’s translate the letter to what they really mean:

“To our alumni and fans — thank you for giving us your hard earned money that you could be using for your family or charities you support or retiring earlier. We really appreciate being able to make real money before we’re eligible for the League. But just because we’re happily taking your money please don’t think that we owe you a 13th football game if it’s not the one we wanted to play in. We’d rather have the money and then play only if, when and where we want to. But thank you again. Suckers.

Luckily, the PR Dept. translated it for them.
Honestly, what Notre Dame fan would care about any bowl game that they got put into at this point? Notre Dame got screwed by the CFP committee, and I totally back them in saying no we’re not going to put our tails between our legs and do what we’re told and go play a totally meaningless bowl game so ESPN can use Notre Dame’s name and drawing power to make $$$.

I have a few different feelings about it

I think Alabama didn't really deserve it because of the FSU loss. I don't think the committee is good at their jobs. I think ND giving a big f...... you to ESPN and the CFBP is a good thing because the whole thing is a joke.

I think ND is a baby about it because they somehow still get tons of special rules, are entitled, and think theyre better than everyone else

Better to only face the wrath of ND rather than pissing off the SEC and their commissioner. The SEC and B1G could blow up the whole college playoff if they wanted. Need to keep the SEC and B1G happy. Also, it might force ND to eventually join a conference.
This is why Alabama is in and ND is out. Everyone is hating on Notre Dame, but the real enemy threatening the survival of football as we know it is the Big Ten and the SEC.

The SEC and the Big Ten are in the drivers seat and they know that they are in a power position to dictate. They will take full control in the next few years. Their first step next year will be a demand that the CFP expands to 16 teams with them getting a guaranteed 10 slots in the playoffs.

Universities who aren’t in the Big Ten or SEC should ban together and decide that they will have their own end of season tournaments for all sports, and ban the Big Ten and SCC from participating. Let the Big Ten and SEC rot on their vine, where they only get to play each other.

LMAO ok go watch club sports then
And you go give your lunch money to help these "poor" athletes. I mean they toil so very hard and make being a coal miner, a factory worker, a farmer look like they have cush jobs. They are STUDENT- athletes, getting a full scholarship at schools some of them would otherwise be hard pressed to get into.

Maybe then they should have beaten Miami when they played head to head.

They didn't get in, so what? Every season schools feel they get screwed in football whether it's the BCS or the playoffs, same goes for the NCAA tournament. Seton Hall got screwed out of the NCAA tournament two seasons ago. They didn't whine and take their basketball home. They accepted their invitation to the NIT and they won the NIT.

I've always kind of liked Notre Dame but this makes them look like a bunch of entitled spoiled brats.

Everyone is spinning it to fit their narrative. Bama's name recognition and history got them in, like Notre Dame doesn't have unbelievable name recognition and history. Miami doesn't deserve it because the ACC sucks. Notre Dame was left out because they don't have a conference and this will force them to join a conference. Bama got in because the SEC is evil and controls college sports...

Teams decline NIT invitations every year. And Notre Dame is far from the only team declining a bowl invitation this year.

I guarantee that every poster here who’s whining about Notre Dame turning down a bowl invitation is a Notre Dame hater.
IMO, the vast majority of Notre Dame fans likely support Notre Dame turning down a bowl invite.

Curious why you think Bama has better computer metrics. On Massey's ratings (Massey Ratings - College Football Rankings), Notre Dame is #7 and Bama #11.

Notre Dame lost to two playoff teams by a total of 4 points, Bama lost to two playoff teams by a total of 23 points plus a non-playoff team by 14. Notre Dame's losses were early in the season, Bama's season finished with a loss.

I get that Bama's SEC schedule was better than Notre Dame's ACC schedule, so they had better wins. But as far as likelihood to win games in the playoff, Notre Dame's profile looks more promising.
Had been trying to follow on ESPN. I fully agree that if you were picking based on “who is most likely to make a run, Bama would be the odd team out. In basketball, I’ve always favored resume based analysis as opposed to performance based analysis, but I understand why both methods exist.

To be clear, I’m not arguing that any of the three should have been left out. Just that a rational case could be made for excluding any of the three such that deciding it was a conspiracy that one got left out is irrational. Frankly, I was surprised that the Duke versus JMY debate was settled a little too easily. If you’re looking at performance and not resume, does one really think JMU had a good shot with Duke’s schedule of winning the ACC? Again, I’m fine with picking JMU on the basis of resume, but there were two sides.

I might feel sorry for ND if they weren’t also trying to rig rot the system from within.

They didn't always... basketball was just ahead of football in deciding the real tournament was the only thing that mattered and if you weren't there, you might as well turn the page to next season.

Frankly, I was surprised that the Duke versus JMY debate was settled a little too easily.

The rule is to take the 5 highest ranked conference champions. There was never a world where Duke was getting in over JMU because Duke was never going to get enough support to outrank JMU...rightfully so.

12 BYU vs 9 ND in the Pop-Tarts Bowl in Orlando on Dec 27 would have been a pretty big deal. I'm no fan of either but that's an opportunity missed by ND especially for their entitled fans. I'm happy ND missed out on the CFP but I also understand their side, saying screw you to the media.

All those fans who could have been enjoying sunny Florida, Disney, football. That's a shame.

BYU got similarly snubbed but is playing in the PopTarts Bowl. Number 23 strength of schedule, worst loss to Texas Tech, twice, both games in Texas

That's it everyone who thinks it's wrong that ND turned a bowl bid is a hater but every ND fan who thinks they made the right decision isn't a homer got it, victim mentality at its finest.
