OT: Notre Dame declines bowl bid

Sounds like the pity party continues and ND thinks they are the boss of a conference they aren't even full members of. They should end the charade and swap us in. ND's toxic entitlement does nothing but hurt the ACC. But of course ESPN loves the clicks and the chaos. It keeps the conference weak under their "guidance".

This is why Alabama is in and ND is out. Everyone is hating on Notre Dame, but the real enemy threatening the survival of football as we know it is the Big Ten and the SEC.

The SEC and the Big Ten are in the drivers seat and they know that they are in a power position to dictate. They will take full control in the next few years. Their first step next year will be a demand that the CFP expands to 16 teams with them getting a guaranteed 10 slots in the playoffs.

Universities who aren’t in the Big Ten or SEC should ban together and decide that they will have their own end of season tournaments for all sports, and ban the Big Ten and SCC from participating. Let the Big Ten and SEC rot on their vine, where they only get to play each other.

Notre Dame would be a dangerous team in the playoffs if they got in. But the fact of the matter is they were always aware of the landscape but chose to continue the delusion that they are bigger than the rest of the sport, the NCAA, and their conference "partner". When you go on that crusade you'd better be nearly perfect and play a challenging schedule. That didn't happen and that's why they're out.

The Pop Tart bowl is 2 days after Christmas in Orlando. That means missing Christmas with the family, unless moving the celebration to Orlando. Apparently the players did not want to do that.
They could have taken the kids that wanted to play, and said, we are here to reward some players who have stuck with the program and want playing time, we are not here to win, the game means nothing.
They do not need the money, they do not need the recruiting exposure, they do not need reaffirmation, what is the benefit in playing in this game, if not enough players want to play?

I posted this a few minutes ago on a thread you just responed to (CR Forum).

I'm confident that this is what he was getting at but I don't see how it holds water. All conferences lobby for their schools. ND is not a football member of the ACC. The lobbying in question was for football and only football.

12 BYU vs 9 ND in the Pop-Tarts Bowl in Orlando on Dec 27 would have been a pretty big deal. I'm no fan of either but that's an opportunity missed by ND especially for their entitled fans. I'm happy ND missed out on the CFP but I also understand their side, saying screw you to the media.

No upside for Notre Dame... if they win, they'd still make the same argument as they are making now (forget head-to-head, we should've been in the tournament) and if they lose, they prove the committee right.

I don't really buy that. First, everyone knows that some players might opt out so most of these teams aren't at full strength anyway. Nothing is proven by a win or loss. Second, both of these teams were on the bubble, so for either team to lose doesn't mean they were not worthy of a CFP spot. And even if it is like you say, it "proves" the committee right, it doesn't matter. It's not like the committee will do it over. This is what life is all about for football players, playing in big games. A bowl game would have been the biggest game of the season for them.

Who cares it's a losers mentality by their players, and fans who are for this are also soft IMO. ND is always a story just like the Yankees are. ND has that right to make this decision and everyone has that right to give their opinion on this. Quit this victim mentality for ND.

Obviously they don't need the money from a bowl nor respect any possible opponent. This was decided as a team and sets their mind set for life.
