It all comes down to TV. It's the ONLY thing RU has over UConn---That's not the only thing that RU has over UCONN, apparently. It's not just the tv market in a densely poplualted are of the country. It's also a rich talent base for other schools, and a member of the AAU (which was important). People are well aware of how far RU has fallen academically---It may have fallen, but in other programs RU is still very strong. Some may never see what's going on, but within the near future, some things will change with some academic happenings going on at RU. Some folks don't see it because they don't have a connection with RU (ie you guys...which is expected), but we are not far from or dodging the criticisms of any (ie you guys)...you guys just don't kow!. The rep in academia was that you were cutting programs left and right while subsidizing sports by 30m a year. It worked out well for you---See this is where you don't see anything else from a different perspective. I don't pretend to know what the hell is going on in Connecticut, but apparently you guys are doing something right, especially with regards to investing in UCONN, however, it's been a historical fact that the state legislature has been making cuts that go against RU. Why? Well only we know and understand. The new president seems to understand what needs to happen for that to stop, and is making every effort that this behavior desists. . In the meantime, your reputation suffered badly and that's why you dropped in those USNWR rankings, because rep. has a huge weight. Those questionnaires filled by academics are like 3/4s of the entire weight of that "poll," as I call it. It still doesn't add up to the weight of the rankings of the world universities in the world. USNWR is reputable...but where does it stack up against a more reputable formula against a larger pool? That's an even better question, answer and analysis. UConn has a great TV market, it's beyond absurd why no one has picked it up when schools like Cuse and Ville have joined. Just a question...but where does UCONN have a great TV market? I really don't know so explain it to me. UConn actually has a winning football record against Pitt, Cuse and Ville. Just to add insult to injury with regards to 2 of the 3 schools (and you know who those 2 are) their football rep was slipping as the top conference mates were departing from the Big East in the early 2000's. It's no secret that when or maybe before Pasqualoni was fired, Sadexcuse was slipping in the worst way. Hell...we had started to beat them a little more consistently in that recent memory. PITT...well they kept making one bad mistake after another for years and years and years...and then some more years and a few days after that. It was made even worse when Wannstache was fired, then what's his face from UM (Oh), and then uggghhh...I can't even remember the musical chairs that was going on. But you get my drift.
BBall speaks for itself. Basically, UConn is a victim of circumstances. Its metrics show it belongs. In terms of Tier 3 TV rights and money and sponsorships, UConn set the gold standard in the old Big East, as it hauled in $25 million a year, or $10 million more than Louisville Can't argue there! It just so happened that FSU set its weight down this year on Ville's pretty good football team (which actually lost to Connecticut). In case you didn't know, SNY has been pushing UConn huge in New York City---No disrespect, but SNY has no choice but to push UCONN in NYC. There's no one left in the conference, maybe with exception to Temple (and they're in another larger tv market). The women's team this year actually BUMPED a Syracuse bball Big East game head-to-head. In the state of Connecticut, basketball is actually the HIGHEST rated show not only on cable, but network as well.
