Bubba is pobably the second biggest out there after Phil, just glad Mickelson didn't win.
Are you serious?
Why? Because of the crap in France? Guy pretty much said that France was beautiful, but he was homesick and would probably never come back. He told interviewers to talk to his manager. What's the problem with that?
Problem with this world is that everybody is so used to everybody else pansy footing around that when a guy simply says how he feels, it's a big deal.
Guy doesn't like being away from the U.S., and he was out of sorts being in Europe. So what?
What else you got? A rumor that he didn't want to share a car with some guy in Paris?
Seriously, if that makes him the biggest out there, then it's a hell of a nice group of guys in the PGA.

And he's a bigger than Tiger, right? Who dicked his wife and kids over as bad as anybody I've ever seen.
At least Bubba and Phil and have families that love them.
Who does Tiger have? His mother and his agent?

I can't think of a bigger waste of money than a really expensive watch.
A large, flat screen TV.
It's all personal, isn't it?
I'm sure you could walk through my house and find 50 things that you'd consider to be a total waste of money (a mortar and pestle? What a waste!)

You're in a particularly argumentative mood today, no?

I really don't get the expensive watch thing. I guess it's a guy's version of diamonds.

Actually Prezidint the correct answer was "no, you're completely wrong I'm not in an argumentative mood."

The guy comes off as real and down to earth. The shot he hit, however, was not. I always find it fascinating how the smallest twig on a tree that is really not in my way can grab my ball and throw it ten yards deeper into the woods.

I was taught when you have a tree (or any other obstacle) in front of you, aim right for it. You will miss it 90% of the time.

Really expensive watches actually hold their value extremely well if kept in good condition. He will likely sell that watch for $500K 10 years from now if he wants to.

How'd you get to work today? Transporter?
Did you really just bring up government spending on roads as a defense to the accusation that govt. spending is not wasteful, generally?
Statism. Gotta love it. Particularly because it sounds like satanism.

The reason I quit the board formerly called Off-Topic but now aptly named the Cesspool was to get away from all the political stupidity. Please, Kitaman, keep it where it belongs.

I heard an interview with Brad Faxon (I think) and he was saying that because Bubba was below the ball (uphill lie) and hitting a wedge, hooking the ball was a lot more possible. He noted that clubs with high degree of loft are almost impossible to slice (although I can do this when I 'skull' it) and easier to hook. It'd be really hard to hook a 2-iron, but a wedge or 9 not so difficult. So although it was perfect execution at a insanely pressurized moment, it was a shot a pro could execute close to 50% of the time in practice.

From the fairway, I agree. From pine needles, and under and overhang of branches, good luck to them. Then for that particular shot, they'd need to be left handed, and few are. Phil was the only other guy in the field who would have a realistic chance of pulling it off from that spot.

Miracle shots are cool. Oustie hit one to get the lead anyway, with his double eagle. The difference is that it was pure luck....just like those hail mary shots from 3/4 court at the end of a basketball game (but far more difficult and rare). Bubba's shot was remarkable because it was exactly what he tried to do.

To Bubba's credit he said himself that the shot was "sort of easy" or something of that nature. I'd say he was very fortunate to even be able to be able to attempt a shot that could possibly get to the green given where he drove the ball. But Bubba stuck it within 15 feet from that position while Louis couldnt even get on the green from just off the fairway.

It was also exactly what
Oosthuizen tried to do when he holed the shot from 260. I sorta get that you meant that it's lucky that it rolled in from that distance, but it was exactly the shot he was trying to play.

Bubba makes that shot probably 6 out of 10 based on the conditions. Oosthuizen holes out once out of maybe 10000 times from there. So I get the lucky. But both were great shots each was trying to play.

At least you can tell when that flat screen is broken. Seriously, $500K for a watch? My values aren't that perverted.

I've been playing golf for over 50 years and during that time I learned that I can slice, shank, hook or flub any club in the bag and when it works out I pretend I did it on purpose. The PGA pros are really friggin' good.

Did you play as a kid at Keney? I am very familiar with the trees there, although I haven't been there for several years now.
On hitting every shaped shot, a law school class mate of mine was a top notch golfer, even winning one state amateur tournament. We went to the old Corbin's Corner driving range (where Westfarms Mall is now) one day and he was hooking the ball, fading, whatever, on demand. I told him, sort of what you just said. that I could do everything he was doing, but it was rarely planned. I was smart enough to have him as a partner in a law school tournament and one of my proudest golf moments was actually winning a hole for the team with a birdie. It was the 2nd hole at Rockledge and the hole I think actually jumped in the way of my pretty long putt. Otherwise, I was his lackey for 17 holes.

For anyone interested, Bubba's been laying low since the Master's doing the media circus tours, and skipped this week's Player's Championship at Sawgrass.

Why?

"He skipped the Players Championship to return to his home region Thursday for his nephew’s birthday and to enable relatives to see his adopted, infant son, Caleb, on Mother’s Day weekend.
“It means a lot that people here would support me and cheer for me this way,” Watson said. “All my tears are for them. I said it when I won the Masters and I meant it. This is all for (the community).
“Even though I am not here that much, it’s fun to see the people support me this much.”
Watson — who grew up in the Pensacola area as a self-taught golfer, never attending a golf academy or receiving private instruction — has ensured the region’s next generation will have the same opportunity he enjoyed.
He has donated $100,000, including the latest $50,000 check he received from Avis Car Rental as the PGA Tour player of the month, to fully fund the Divot Derby junior golf tournament for the next five years.
Watson, who last won the long-standing event in 1994, will pay for all the operation costs, the awards, the course rentals, the food and the fees, so every youth golfer who wishes to participate can play for free.
“What it means for us is that we can put on a first-class event and not worry about begging, scraping or scrimping to do it, which is what we normally have to do in junior golf,” said Marty Stanovich, executive director of the First Tee of Northwest Florida. “What also makes this so special is that it’s all about Bubba not forgetting where he came from.
“The Divot Derby was very important to him and he wants to support it.”

If he's the second biggest on tour behind only Phil (as someone posted earlier in this thread), these guys on the PGA tour must be the nicest, most caring group of folks on the planet. Mother Theresa, Dali Lama and the Pope would have felt blessed to hang out with such wonderful people.

The correct way to describe your game is that you have every shot in the books... you just don't know when they will show up.

I think a lefty-phobic person wrote that. For me, Tiger is the biggest . Not even close. It sickens me that he's still the focus of attention from the media when others are so generous with their time and money... and much of that is anonymous or private, and we only find out about it much later (ie. Bubba at Hole-in-the-Wall camp the year after winning in Cromwell).

I don't know or care who the biggest douches are or aren't. They're golfers, we know nothing about their private lives or what they do on the side except for Tiger. Why because everyone cares, whether they hate Tiger or love him, they want to know and it killed him............none of the guys mentioned have ever come clsoe to dealing with what Tiger did as the most recognizable athlete on the planet.

I love seeing Kuchar win today and having a young Fowler charging him...................but if anyone dares to say its as fun watching golf without Tiger playing well and doing things others can't on the weekend then they're lying. The reason they are watching and focusing on his game no matter where he stands is because they need him, the game needs him and I for one hope he finds IT again. Not sure what it will take - Harmon, women, whatever - I hope he figures it out!!!
