The Croatian H.C. started playing
her bench players at the start of the
second period. Soon after the Egyptian
Coach had ( I believe ) mostly bench
players in the game. Thus, a little more
ragged. I just hope that OLIVIA plays
enough to get another DOUBLE DOUBLE
to add to herTournament leading DD stat.

will be playing against the winner of the
New Zealand ( 3-2) vs Taipei (2 - 3) matchup later Saturday
night.. The logical choice is NEW ZEALAND with
their leader Bailey Flavell who is averaging 20.2 ppg
and has an rating of 19.8.

Another Double Double for Olivia ! 19 points 10 rebounds.
THE CROATIA H.C. left her in to get the necessary rebound
then, appropriately, rested her for the remainder of the game.
OLIVIA's stats: 18 points on 7/13 shooting, 5/10 from 2 point
range, 2/3 from three point range. Two fouls, One turnover,
no steals ( I did see one!) of 21. TOMORROW CROATIA
PLAYS FOR Ninth Place in the U 17 tournament. GO CROATIA
NO OLIVIA.

OLIVIA Stats: 18 minutes and already she has
DOUBLE DOUBLE of 19 points and 15 rebounds
five offensive. Olivia is 4/8 on field goal attempts and
11 for 12 from the FOUL LINE! Taipei is
trying to contain her but the REFS are
calling the fouls/ holds/ etc. Olivia
may foul out half the Taipei team!
Olivia ONE assist, no fouls, two
turn overs, one steal ( Olivia also had
another nice deflection and dove
for the ball for a tie up!! NICE!! )
THREE BLOCKS, and an "" RATING OF 32.
A MONSTER GAME FOR THE " BIG O".
Note Taipei started this quarter with a 6 -0
run, and Croatia responsed with a 8-0 run
of their own...GOOD POISE!

offensive fouls... Apparently true
but they are really ganging up on
Olivia.

FINAL SCORE Croatia 86 Taipei 76
OLIVIA with 31 points in 36 minutes of playing time.
Also 24 rebounds with 7 offensive rebounds and
17 defensive rebounds, three fouls, three steals, 6
turnovers, 6 blocked shots and an rating
of FIFTY ( 50 ) not an error = FIFTY!
OLIVIA WAS BEING MAULED! But to her
credit she has a calm demeanor and can
take the hits, the holds, the wrestling tieups
with almost a STOIC demeanor. Incredible!
The whole Croatian team did not lose their
cool. It takes a certain type of team
discipline to defeat teams like Taipei.
On to USA vs Canada!!
P.S. OLIVIA should end up # 1 in
this tournament on Rebounds, # 1 for Blocks,
# 1 for double doubles and and # 1 on Efficiency rating.

Correction: The Croatian team was the NINTH-PLACE finisher in the tournament, not the
Overall 5th Place winners. The Australians with Lara Somfai were the winners of FIFTH PLACE over Japan.
Other Awards not noted above: Olivia Vukosa was placed on the "ALL SECOND TEAM /
Second Best Team" along with Jordyn Palmer of the USA. The " BIG O" was also awarded the
FIBA U 17 Tournament's "BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER" with her # 1 performance in
the TOURNAMENT for BLOCKED SHOTS and Defensive Rebounds. Olivia had the most
82 defensive rebounds for the tournament, 11.9 defensive rebounds "per game". She also had 18 total blocks
in the tournament, which was, of course, best for blocks per game 2.6, but to
be accurate NOT best for a hypothetical 40-point game average.
To continue my obsession: Olivia made the most FREE THROW ATTEMPTS and
the MOST free throws " made" : 63 attempts and 50 made (not nearly the highest
percentage wide.)... I.E. she was fouled "A LOT" and made "A LOT" of the Free throws
including her 13/15 in her final game against Taipei. Jerzy ROBINSON for TEAM USA was #2 in
free throw attempts and free throws made at 59 attempts and 44 made free throws.

chick on "STATS" and play with all the various stats for: TEAMS, PLAYERS, Player POSITIONS, etc.
It is quite a breakdown.

Watching the Croatia team play, I agree with HopJim's comment, and I feel confident that OLIVIA's stats would have
even been better if the Croatian "ENTRY PASSES" had been better. Some passes sailed
over her outstretched arms and other passes seemed to be aimed at Olivia's feet! My guess is
that OLIVIA would have been ranked over JERZY Robinson in PPG with a little help on those
passes. I believe Jerzy's PPG was around 20.7 ppg and Olivia's was something like 19.4 ppg. GO HUSKIES!
Come to STORRS: JERZY, MCKENNA, OLIVIA!

Seems like Geno sent her a selfie this morning and then she reposted with a joke. I'm still confused why you would think this is the Croatian airport and not the Mexican airport where the Croatian team is given the Spanish translation under Gate (Puerta). I don't know where Vukosa is but that seems irrelevant. I have not been to Croatia but I find it hard to believe they have English/Spanish signage instead of Croation.

Muhl didn't comment on him recruiting in Europe. She said he was happy around all these Croatians, and he was surrounded by the Croation natainal team who is currently in Mexico.
Unless she commented elsewhere about him being in Europe beyond the picture that I haven't seen.

Well yes. Puerta is gate in Spanish. Lena Bilic (U17 team member) is to Geno’s right. Someone on the Croatian team no doubt posted the photo or sent it to Nika and she posted it to her IG account. The person who posted the photo on X had no idea there was a tournament in Mexico.

Where is Olivia? I suspect she flew back to the US while the Croatian team flew home to Croatia. Different flight/different gate?

Geno was at the U17 event.

That you for tying up the last of the mysteries in the latest saga of "Where in the world is Geno Auriemma". The real question is where did he fly back to? Chicago for EYBL finals? Storrs to hang out with Paige and Ice? Italy for Vacation? On the edge of my seat until we find out!

Sorry, it's right above Muhl's comment where I see Allison Irons the poster? says "kudos to him for still making trips to Europe to recruit." I guess it's Allison who doesn't know where he is.

I think she was just assuming the tournament was in Europe since he's with the Croatian team! No worries, I wasn't sure if I had missed something.

I would recognize Lena Bilic anywhere!! (the smiling face on Geno's right shoulder). Lena, # 9, is Ms. dependable and a 6'2" point guard with an offensive capability! A great combo with Olivia Vukosa. NOTE: LENA was not the guard sending some of those terrible entry passes to Olivia at the FIBA U 17 tournament. GO OLIVIA!

It's possible that Geno is not allowed to have contact with Vukosa or any recruit.

I think Geno might be tempted to go to Europe for the U18 championship, which starts on August 3. Will Olivia Vukosa be part of the Croatian team, we don't know yet, the tournament will be used to determine the 6 European countries that will take part in next year's U19 World Cup. I've looked at Overtime Select and there are still two teams to be announced, which also start on August 3, but Olivia's name hasn't yet appeared. As I mentioned in another post, in Europe it's not uncommon for top players to play in more than one FIBA international championship.

I'm fairly certain, however, that Lena Bilic will be part of the Croatian U18 team. Two years ago, she took part in the U16 championship, which is held every year in Europe. Croatia finished 3rd and she was selected for the all-star team.
