When a dumpster is burning that brightly, it’s probably wise or not to dive into it to see if anyone left any fries in their Arby’s bag.

If memory serves, UConn needs at least two underclassman to exit the program in order to have enough scholarship room for their freshman class.

Who would you take off the 'Cuse roster, who hasn't already been indoctrinated with the a lazy, fulltime zone attitude?

Separate point, but related: I posit that moving the 3 point line and adding the semi-circle in the lane has spread the floor out and negatively affected the effectiveness of the zone...Also Steph Curry...

yeah I am not sure there is anyone. The only players I would even consider are Judah Mintz and Jesse Edwards. I am just going off the top of my head without a deep dive into that roster. But the transfer portal was loaded with players the last 2 years and I think it will be every year going forward. UConn can do better than the basketball PTSD anyone on Syracuse is going through.

And the way Boeheim coaches their zone defense, it really doesn't jive with the way Hurley coaches defense.

You probably don't know how right you are.

Back on Valentine's Day, love was all around, as the Orange won their 3rd straight to even out the 3-game skid that closed January. Everybody was popping chocolate-dipped mandarins into their mouths whole, as the team's record climbed to 16-10.

"#ottoascending" wasn't what fueled the joy; in fact Boeheim himself nixed those very t-shirts when he was shown the mockup.

It was Basketball Operation intern Sandy (they/them/theirs) who caught JB's ear back in the summer, so that the wise elder lobbied heavily to top out the regular season at 31 games. Sandy got no public credit, but the whispers to boosters made repeated reference to "the one who redefined Sweet 16."

At 16 wins, it didn't take a math genius to recognize that even a full collapse - with 5 consecutive losses and a first-round bounce in the ACC Tournament - could not result in the horror of back-to-back losing seasons. The perfect stop loss. Sweet 16 indeed.

Further still, if the mid-February victory over the Wolfpack was the continued unfolding of a miracle-in-the-making, 5 more regular season victories, plus 3 more wins to capture the conference tourney crown, and a six-pack for a second National Championship ("STFU, OLANDER!") would show the beauty of a 40-10 final record.

The ADub version has its own magnificence. Imagine a loss to Wake Forest, and the the comatose giant of the north awakening with a first-round squeaker and plus two upsets going into ACC Finals at 19-16, with a chance to hit 20 and go to the Big Dance. That is when Augie's fantasy becomes real.

The crushing buzzer beater ends the season on a higher note than last year, which, in case you've forgotten, played out as follows for the then 16-16 plucky, gritty, nepotistic band of brothers (and kinda more)...

Just watched Inside College Basketball on CBSSN. When they put up the GA Tech - Syr score, they said Syracuse has to make some hard decisions in the offseason. C'mon, give him at least another year!
 
Quite frankly, it would be a disaster for college sports if Syracuse fires Boeheim. Or, sorry- "mutually part ways with their legend".

It won't be as fun mocking them when HC Gerry McNamara inevitably gets the keys to the program and can't recruit a body to South Canada, or revive a program with zero head coaching experience.

In all seriousness, if they don't hire someone with legitimate success as a D1 head coach, they're toast. Specifically, someone who can recruit their arse off. I can't imagine it's any fun trying to convince a top 100 northeast guy to pick Cuse right now over Nova, Providence, UConn, Rutgers, or even Shaheen at Seton Hall or St. John's if they get Pitino.

I see the Dome mentioned on the Cuse board as a positive in recruiting/a difference maker for them over other programs. Having never been there, I assume it's more of a white elephant these days, something novel in 1980 which is is now faded and lacking in real atmosphere. You can play in an old dump and get kids because it's a great place to have a home crowd on your side and national medial moaning about how unique it is (see Cameron), but the Dome looks to me like a terrible basketball venue.

It is a terrible venue, however the selling point is when Syracuse is doing well, you are playing all your home games for 30,000 plus. That is unique and I have no problem with them using that as a selling point. I love to rag on syracuse but its dishonest to say they dont have great fan support.

Just like the XL Center when it is less than 90% capacity, I'm sure the JMA Dome is cavernous and less than ideal for basketball.

The difference is 90% full at the XL Center is 14,000. The Dome's basketball capacity is at least 34,000 on its own. That's a lot of exposed metal benching, let alone what exists behind the temporary stands.

Syracuse's crappy recruiting is equally at fault.

If they had fewer Boeheim's on the roster--and more players like Andre Jackson--then that zone would be a hell of a lot scarier.

IDK. I kind of feel that the NCAA championship game is our Super Bowl.

We don't manage to get there every year. But we do get there, and we have done so several times.

And, most often, when we do get to that game, we win.

I do not recall ever having met Syracuse in the NCAA championship game. But, then, they do get there quite infrequently.

Last night was a terrible night if you want to see Syracuse suffer for years.

Too many losses like that and they’re gonna have to stage a hit to get rid of Boeheim.

No, those are options #2 and #3. Apparently, Nate Oats is going to go on a 10 day meth bender; which will lead him to leave Alabama (riches AD in the country) to take the reins up north.

I think JB has earned the right to designate that after the transition period the job goes to the first of his kids to bless him with a grandchild, even if it means that his daughter becomes the first woman to coach a D-1 Men's team, and she attracts some attention for breast-feeding on the bench during games. Papa B has already established precedent for private behavior in public spaces, and this would be more than hygiene and tension-reduction. Time will tell.
