It’s really hard to get past how funny this all is, but it’s also really sad.
Syracuse was a consistent MBB powerhouse for a long time, and now they’re below rock bottom because their HC is a horrible guy pushing 80 years old who refuses to change anything about his approach to coaching.
It’s a lot easier to destroy a legacy than it is to build one. It took Boeheim decades to build Syracuse’s legacy, and it’s been destroyed in just a few years.
They really have to get him out of there. He’s burned the Syracuse brand to the ground
Boeheim's ego is massive.
He was the biggest whiner in college basketball for a long time, then he won the national championship with Melo and it seemed to mellow him a bit. He was actually a good listen in interviews and came across as somewhat likable. As he aged it came full circle and not only did he go back to being an insufferable whiner he came across as a giant a hole. When he wasn't throwing his own players under the bus, he was trying to tell other coaches how to coach their team and how kids at other programs should behave. Now he's flat out calling out other programs to the media.
He was a damn good coach but he always thinks he's the smartest guy in the room and that arrogance has kept him at his school far too long while tainting his legacy some.
Calhoun, Roy, and K all knew when it was time and they are all on an entirely different level than Boeheim.
