Odell to Cleveland

If this is a firesale hopefully they can get a 3rd for Jenkins

Im 100% fine with trading away big contracts on the defensive side for picks. This draft is a really strong defensive draft and we have a lot of holes to fill. What do we have right now, 12 draft picks?

I don't like OBJ as a person. I would hate him as a teammate. I felt compelled to like him because he was a Giant and was angry with myself for being so shallow, I still "liked him" and put up with his BS.

Now that he's gone, I can loathe him without regrets.

However, as bad as the last few seasons have been, darker days are coming. I have my doubts that any FA that has the fire in his belly to win would even listen to an offer from the Giants. The only guys that would, are money grubbers that will pull a Rodney Dangerfield "broken arm" 2 weeks into camp. I guess I'll just have to go to my happy place and grin and bear it.

Impossible to deal with, per who? The out of touch owner, media, or the GM/HC who have accomplished what exactly? By all accounts he was well liked in the locker room - that's what should really count.

I think OBJ is nuts, but he's a generational talent. To me that's worth dealing with some "media" distractions for the on field play.

This is spot on. His teammates loved him. He played with passion, something you couldn't say about the rest of the team for much of the Coughlin/McAdoo/Shurmur era.

The issue was an old, stodgy organization with an old, stodgy GM didn't like Beckham personally. The "distraction" narrative was entirely media-generated.

that have the comp pick for landon?

A lot of people don't give him enough credit for his on field play. And it's only because they dont like him. He's the best receiver in the league. I don't care what anyone else says. I'll be watching as many browns games as I can this year.

But he’s cancer or so I’m told by morons.

Its time to accept the fact that OBJ wanted this trade. He wanted out. He pushed the media buttons to make this happen. Giants had no choice.

OBJ has just 2 or 3 prime years left (I see a quick Victor Cruz type ending likely for his smallish frame) and he didn't want to waste here on a squad with no chance at the playoffs in 2019.

Yeah he totally wanted to go to Cleveland. He’s only 26.

I watched them all of last year, because I've a drinking buddy from there. They've definitely got something. This is still one of the quicker turnarounds I've ever seen. Curious to see how the team plays under the new staff.

A lot of the reason is the prior GM stockpiling draft picks with trades that Dorsey was able to use

Anyone can tank and acquire picks. The good ones actually turn those picks into on-field talent.

Totally agree....just saying he had a lot more ammunition than most GM's taking over a bad team

I’m all for it too, but I’m sure we’ll do something else that makes no sense right now like throw big money at Golden Tate.

Part of me actually finds it refreshing that an organization would so quickly realize they misread a situation completely and then go the opposite way by trading away pieces and rebuilding. It's important that the Giants finally realized this was the case.

What I have an issue is that the same guy who so badly misread the situation, is the same guy we're entrusting the next decade of our franchise to?

Since we can't change the past, I would do the following:

1) Trade the 2nd round pick for Rosen. I pretty much think most young QBs are a toss up, but we need to hitch our wagon to one of them. Sticking with Eli just delays the inevitable.

2) Take a pass rusher at #6, and then BPA with the other first round pick, be it a OL, EDGE, or CB.

3) Go crazy with the 1829 picks we have and take primarily defensive players.

I'd do that - but I have no faith in Gettleman, Mara or Shurmur to execute.
And they will go with Eli.

Not sure if legit, but rumor is Shurmur is not happy. This had to be a Mara-Gettleman decision. I think Tisch loved Odell too.

if you can trust ethan who can you trust?

If they made this move without the owners, GM and HC on board then we're screwed forever

Giants thought they could win last year that is why they signed him to a long term deal.

They came back to reality last season, realize a rebuild is inevitable, and Odell and his salary weren't going to be a part of it.

I think this is less about off the field issues and more about dumping salary and getting picks on a 2-3 year rebuild.

It absolutely smacks of Mara and Gettleman. Again, old, stodgy, and out of touch. Everything that Beckham isn't.

I never got the sense Shurmur had much of an opinion on Beckham.

Yeah there’s so many holes now that Rosen seems ideal if you can get him for a 2020 non first.

My only concern with Rosen is if the Cardinals are willing to give him up for a non-first they must not think highly of him, which is concerning.

Yeah he totally wanted to go to Cleveland. He’s only 26.

He wanted the 49ers or Dallas, but Cleveland would due because its on the upswing. Odell has never said he didn't want to be traded. You have to face up that Odell wanted this....wanted it bad.

He will be 27 in November... and looking at last year's list of top receivers is pretty clear there is a drop off after age 29. Those still productive after 30 is a short list; Edelman, Desean Jackson, Antonio Brown.

I think its 50/50 Beckham is productive after age 30 because he is fragile with a history of hamstring and knee issues...but that does give Cleveland four years.

No.

They took a shot at it - quite stupidly - thinking Eli for 2 more years with hellacious offensive talent around him. They neglected offensive line.

I would fire the entire lot. I hated Shurmur hiring.

Problem is the Giants don't agree with you. If they did they wouldn't have gave him the long term deal in the first place. Most of Beckham's craziness was pre-deal.

They didn't suddenly decide he was to much to handle, they were fine with it until they found out they had to rebuild.

So you are not putting any stock in this story from Vacchiano that appears to be straight from Mara and Gettleman?

Odell Beckham Jr. trade: Why Giants decided to deal 'pain in the ass' receiver

Then why did they trade for the league's highest paid guard?
Because we haven't successfully drafted a guard in 10 years....and because the free agent market sucks for guards and because we want to bolster Barkley's chances to dominate.

Beckham probably was a pain in the ass, but they could care less if they were a contender, now they are rebuilding and using it as an excuse to dump their best player.

Fan bases don't like seeing their stars get traded away as the team goes full on tank, they're saving some face here.
