Non-UConn transfer portal

the Demond Williams QB at Washington story according to Dave

“No one owes any allegiance to anyone”
“This sucks”
“This has to be fixed”

And here I am pissed that some of our guys sat out or only agreed to play a portion of the Fenway bowl. So, I guess I need to look at players as hired hands going forward. I’ll still root for UConn but maybe not invest in the individual players, though there will be exceptions e.g Cam Spencer, Donovan, Kemba, Shabazz, Castle. AK, etc. Long list actually.

Well, like William Stranix said (and an ode to Chin's former avatar):

The chaos and havoc of the portal certainly makes for some entertainment when it doesn't involve our woes. Ain't it grand having the BIG and SEC battle each other to see who can swing the bigger stick checkbook? It'll probably quietly settle for a few million, which is disappointing as I really wanted each conference to rip the other and end the unholy alliance.

Pitt star linebacker Rasheem Biles is entering the NCAA transfer portal, per his agency @thebizofathlete. He’s a two-time All-ACC selection who led the ACC with 17.0 TFLs this year. In three seasons at Pitt, he has 31.0 TFLs and 10 sacks, 3 INTs and three forced fumbles. https://search.app/DkqYW

Here's our man! Let's go get him!

A salary cap should be legal. It's legal in other sports. But, big but, who signs off on the cap for the players.

As long as the schools refuse to accept that the players really are employees, there can’t be any collective bargaining, which would allow for a salary cap, amongst many other terms that would address most, if not all of the chaos.

transferring down to buffalo, for more playing time?
He won't qualify, longhorns are steers. A bull can become a steer, but there is no going back.

The Commiss……
The Players Assoc……

Oh, I see your point. Anarchy.
with the level of selfishness i'm seeing at all levels of this issue, i wouldn't be surprised if ohio state, michigan, etc... announced suddenly they hired their own "commissioner" to set all of the governance for their program. so every team has its own salary cap, etc.

i'm kidding obviously, but i wouldnt' put it past some big-time program to try to lie to the public about its attempts to level the playing field, with antics like this.

It's like the FAA living in-house with boeing during the certification of the 737-max.
"take our word for it". * wink *

I will be in the minority on this for sure.

but the way college football is heading, I would be ok if we just blew this whole thing up, and sent everyone home.
Everything that made college football great, is going away.
I get the kids needed to make money, but i'm starting to see that college football's beauty in ages past, came from the fact that BIG money wasn't a part of the equation. The only currency you had was school pride and the prestige of playing the next big bowl game.

Unfortunately it became a chicken/egg problem where the beautiful things DO generate fan interest & thus money. So, who gets the money? I don't thnk college coaches should make 10M/year. This isn't the NFL. it just isn't. So, the talent will go down MASSIVELY, accordingly. both coaching and on-field talent.
And I'm ok with that.

I just want to cheer for my school (go "state"!), beat our rivals, and visit campus every once in a while and buy a t-shirt. If we by some miracle could convince the nfl-caliber talent kids to stil play for a college, amazing. But if not, the whole thing becomes ivy-league-esque (competitive, tradition rich, and forever AMATEUR in nature).

The way things are currently going, with free-cash to kids and no governance, the name of the school on the jersey is literally meaningless. it's just colored laundry for a paycheck, until the paycheck runs out. Then it's NEXT.

I have many more thoughts but i'll leave it there.
