I will be in the minority on this for sure.
but the way college football is heading, I would be ok if we just blew this whole thing up, and sent everyone home.
Everything that made college football great, is going away.
I get the kids needed to make money, but i'm starting to see that college football's beauty in ages past, came from the fact that BIG money wasn't a part of the equation. The only currency you had was school pride and the prestige of playing the next big bowl game.
Unfortunately it became a chicken/egg problem where the beautiful things DO generate fan interest & thus money. So, who gets the money? I don't thnk college coaches should make 10M/year. This isn't the NFL. it just isn't. So, the talent will go down MASSIVELY, accordingly. both coaching and on-field talent.
And I'm ok with that.
I just want to cheer for my school (go "state"!), beat our rivals, and visit campus every once in a while and buy a t-shirt. If we by some miracle could convince the nfl-caliber talent kids to stil play for a college, amazing. But if not, the whole thing becomes ivy-league-esque (competitive, tradition rich, and forever AMATEUR in nature).
The way things are currently going, with free-cash to kids and no governance, the name of the school on the jersey is literally meaningless. it's just colored laundry for a paycheck, until the paycheck runs out. Then it's NEXT.
I have many more thoughts but i'll leave it there.
