Non-UConn transfer portal

I didn’t think the service academy players transferred. The guy had better get a big payout wherever he lands because he has to reimburse the U.S. for his education now that he’s reneging on his commitment to serve in the Navy

I believe it’s a pretty nominal fee if you leave the academies in your first two years (books, uniforms, etc.). If you leave in your third or fourth year, I think you are on the hook for repaying tuition.

AJ Pena went from URI -> Memphis -> URI.

Not sure about anyone else in the modern portal era.
Even before all the transfer portal madness, this happened at UConn. Shakim Phillips transferred from BC -> UConn -> BC between 2010 and 2014

In another thread, someone said they can pull out in the first two years before being locked in that commitment. Must be true based on the info above.

This is true.

This is from google search, and I believe it's accurate based on what my hubby also said (USNA):

Before Junior Year (1st & 2nd Class Year)
  • First Two Years: You are under no financial obligation; you can leave and owe nothing, though you might need to pay back uniform costs or other specific charges.
  • Midshipman Status: You become an official member of the Navy/Marine Corps (Midshipman) and incur a service obligation the moment you start your second year's academics (beginning of 2nd Class year).
During Junior & Senior Years (2nd & 1st Class Year)
  • Incurring Obligation: Once you start your junior year, you are on the hook for a service commitment.
  • Repayment: Instead of paying money (which can be hundreds of thousands of dollars), most non-graduates repay through enlisted service, with the time commitment varying based on how long you stay.
  • Examples: Leaving during junior year might mean a 2-year enlisted commitment, while leaving later could mean more time, but it's always a substantial commitment.

Something to note: Louisville’s star RB Issac Brown announced he is returning. Cam Edwards scheduled a visit there.

If Cam is gone and his offer list is small why not? He got injured last year but dude can ball
He's got no connection to this staff. I would think Colorado State and TCU would both at least kick the tires on him.

Cam Cook heading to WVU
Cam had 58 and 460 yards his 2 years at TCU and then 1,659 yards at Jax State and an Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award finalist. From the Big 12 to CUSA to Big 12. We need to find our next Cam

If you transfer from UConn and NMST without taking a snap, you probably aren’t that good.
I am not 100% sure on that one… We had Joe on the bench for 1/2 a season and it wasn’t until Evers got hurt that he got a legit shot with a decent O line. I do wonder sometimes on ability to asses QB. I liked the kid - took a chance on us. If we need backup QB and he’s decent wouldn’t mind having him back. But that’s just me.

It is disgusting what has happened to college football. We will get to a point where teams with highest payroll or "NIL" well put together the best team.

At minimal, NCAA should put together some kind of salary cap, NIL cap or something to put some guard rails around this insanity. I don't blame the kids for chasing the biggest dollars since this is the American way. I can't blame the coaches since most just want to win, and will do whatever it takes to get the best players.

This simply means there will only be about 10 to 15 teams that can compete regularly. Teams without sugar daddy boosters will be SOL.

It's capitalism and high end prostitution at its finest. It's not good for the sport and this isn't good for the sport and it will have an effect on the NFL.

It’s bad, but I’m not sure this meets the definition of capitalism.

Ironically, I imagine Indiana was not in top 15 of payers

Billionaire Indiana University alumnus Mark Cuban is increasing his NIL support for Indiana, he told Front Office Sports this morning. "Let's just say they are happier this year than last year," Cuban wrote in an email to Front Office Sports.

So I don’t understand one thing, and maybe this guy is not saying it right. How does this kid have a signed contract? I thought that was one of the biggest issues with NIL. There’s no specific legal contract that you sign. You can basically do what this kid did and there’s nothing they can do about it. Obviously he’s not going to get UW money but he doesn’t care if he can get 2 mil more at LSU. Am I missing something??
