Non-UConn transfer portal

That is the least surprising news of the off-season. He was 3rd or 4th on the depth chart at New Mexico. Not sure where his path forward is

This is an interesting flashback. I can't seem to find any stats for him at New Mexico, so I'm guessing he didn't see the field. I still remember how excited he was to be a Husky and how excited we were to get him. I wish him good luck in the future...
He was a good study on how hard it is to evaluate high school quarterbacks. He seemed to have it all…3 star rating…size…played in Texas…showed leadership on social media. But things haven’t worked out for him yet.

Welliver was stuck in the same place on the depth chart at New Mexico as we he was at UConn.

LIke I said last year at this time, Cole -- be a hero. Come to Maine.

In all honesty, a 3 star QB is probably the hardest position to evaluate. There are a plethora of those type every year in the recruiting cycle. Maybe (Hopefully) we can take it up a notch and convince a 4 star (or 2 over the course of a few recruiting cycles) to actually take us seriously and come here. Problem here is we don't have time to truly develop anybody here at that position. We need a competent/ultra competitive guy there NOW.

I think the most likely starters for UConn at qb will be portal qbs( successful FCS starters or P4 backups). In this environment, it will be tough to recruit a high school QB who will be good enough to start over a transfer with experience. It feels like the only true freshmen QBs who will start will be high 4 star or 5 stars.

The QB who just committed, Polson, is an early enrollee and he could use the spring/summer to prove capable as a starter. Would be great if we could get a portal QB, maybe one who just played in a Bowl game against Ville.

Hey…if he has the talent to start as a true freshman…that would be great. I would just be surprised if a true freshman would be better than a portal transfer with college experience.

Whats the over and under on # of Toledo guys who end up here between HS decomitts and Portal guys?

For UConn and in general last year, wonder how many portal entries ended up with no transfer opportunities, no NIL, no scholarship, no FBS, etc.?

I think it was around 25-30% that dropped out of the FBS level.

Wow, 40% no transfer, may or may not have transferred to some school without a scholarship. And, 30% downgrades to FCS (albeit Colgate’s a worthy potential degree).

Only 10% lateral or lower FBS, and 20% FBS P4. Worth the ri$k for the Auburn & SMU transfers financially, but neither played too much. As for Western Michigan, maybe more playing time (?) and dinero (?).

Surely, philanthropic player agents clearly discuss the potential risks/rewards with all prospective portal entrants at all schools nationally. /s

Pitt star linebacker Rasheem Biles is entering the NCAA transfer portal, per his agency @thebizofathlete. He’s a two-time All-ACC selection who led the ACC with 17.0 TFLs this year. In three seasons at Pitt, he has 31.0 TFLs and 10 sacks, 3 INTs and three forced fumbles. https://search.app/DkqYW

Here's our man! Let's go get him!
He did respond on his IG story to Manalac’s departure saying he was heartbroken

That list is not up to date. Montgomery wound up at Tennessee State, Daniley at New Haven, etc.

Sounds like an excellent building block for a revamped offensive line. Unfortunately the big boys are likely on him too.

OK, the point regarding portal risk remains nationally. For UConn, 50% downgraded last year. 40% down to FCS. 10% down to then transitioning D2 to now lowest FCS New Haven.
