I heard last year Chavez wanted to stay in Texas, I assumed UT but maybe Texas Tech has a chance?
It's funny this guys uses Juju and Clark because I'm not sure they are staying home without Plum and Sabrina staying home and getting to the final four before them. Also Juju and Clark both went to fairly well established programs in USC and Iowa (who went to the Elite Eight and had a NPOY the year Clark committed) so Texas Tech should probably go the Sabrina/Plum root anyways.

She's a great talent so I am curious where she ends up.

Let’s not forget NIL which her Dad pointed out as being an important factor. TTevh is like SCar in that every player gets the same collective split. Indeed Tech and Scar started at about the same time paying $ 25K per year “base pay.” Don’t know what it is per year at Tech now ( rumor is Scar going to $50K this year due to a matching donation to the collective)

It’s a solid base even at 25. Of course, much much more can be earned in privately negotiated NIL. However, my point is TTech does have an ante to sit at the table.

Plum and Sabrina are both from California, and went to school at Washington and Oregon, respectively. How, exactly did "Plum and Sabrina stay[] home[.]"

Iowa established, I'll give you. USC hadn't been considered an established program for some time. Until this season, it had been more than 15 years since they made the NCAA in consecutive seasons.

Of course it's Texas Tech's pitch! What else could it be? They haven't made the NCAA tournament since 2013, and not under coach Krista Gerlich. She's going into the final year of her five year contract and does not have an extension in place. If Chavez were to choose Texas Tech and sign in November (barely one week into the collegiate season), what a huge risk. Tech is not a program on the upward trajectory, and I don't believe they are projected to make the NCAA tournament in March.

That is true BUT when you have Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie, Cheryl Miller and Tina Thompson as alums, you aren't exactly starting from scratch legacy wise. Its a program with a rich history and strong legacy will living legends that are still active around the game. Not quite the same as Texas Tech, Oregon or Washington. Reviving a program isn't quite the same as jump starting one from scratch.

Reviving after 30 years or so really is the same as starting from scratch isn't it?

Not much history of top programs being revived after the fall.

Established to me means consistent success within the last decade, minimum. Yes, USC was dominant at times BUT you're listing players who were part of the program decades ago (which is missing the McGee sisters). The program has been treated like an afterthought until recently.

in Iowa's case Coach Bluder had been to an Elite 8 a couple years prior to Clark joining the team. She has had Gustafson as a NPOY.

And it's too early to say whether USC has established anything after one season. I would love it, but you're annointing a team that still have to prove themselves. They're young and have a head coach several on this board are skeptical of. For all we know they could be a one-hit-wonder.

Again, I would LOVE to see USC regain it's prominence. At the same time, with the reality of the NCAAW landscape, anything can bloody happen. It's not a sure thing.

Maybe. Schaeffer has done a good job there, but he still hasn't quite turned them into a true powerhouse and he has yet to get them to the heights he achieved at Mississippi St. He's 63 so time isn't really on his side for the long term outlook of the program.

I think Texas is loaded at SG/SF. Could be the reason McDowell is looking elsewhere; she did visit Texas unofficially in September 2022.

Texas Tech and Oklahoma seem like outliers here. She could take the CC path and stay home and try to take a program to new heights (well, heights they haven't seen in 30 years) or join a powerhouse.

I'd love to see her land at Texas where they have some serious firepower on the wings with Booker/Crump/Lee. Just missing a talented post inside.

South Carolina would have an overkill of PGs most likely, though I'm sure Dawn wouldn't pass her up. In 2025-26 Tessa Johnson will be a junior, and Madisen McDaniel a sophomore. Not to mention Raven Johnson still has eligibility to play that season.

UCLA similarly has Kiki Rice/Londynn Jones overlapping for 1 year but they'll have a massive talent dropoff after 2025-26 when their monster class graduates (Betts/Gardiner/Rice/Jones/Jaquez/maybe Barker). 4 years of Siena Betts/Aaliyah Chavez could be special though.


And as far as LSU, I think it'd make a lot of sense from an NIL perspective. Chavez would have 2 years with Williams, 1 year with Flaujae and a clear shot to start from day 1. Kim recruits well from the transfer portal too. Talent looks thinner at the moment but Kim recruits well and always puts a formidable team together.
 
I believe it's going to come down to LSU or Texas. And I'm hearing as of right now LSU is in a really good spot with her. Fingers crossed.

LSU has a serious shot at landing all 5 stars from CyFair. Hines, Chavez, and McDowell.

I don't look at our chances being all that great either. I think Raven will still be around for Aaliyah's freshman year. You mentioned Tessa in your discussion of PGs. With her 40%+ 3 point skills, I see Tess at SG and W - not at point. I also see Milaysia at point over Tessa. Maddy? A point guard but I don't think Chavez will consider her when she decides on a school (in November?). Maddy will have shown nothing in November.

As a number one, she probably has an attitude that she can beat out anybody, but I just don't foresee us landing her.
 
SC usually tries to take a PG every class, but I’m pretty confident it’s not going to be Chavez. Still a chance clearly, but nobody on this side is expecting her in Columbia.

I honestly don't expect Chavez to land anywhere that has elite young point guards on the roster. Chavez can definitely play shooting guard, but doubt she wants to play off the ball for more than one season.

I do think LSU is a serious contender for Chavez. She never made it out to LSU to watch an actual basketball game, but did so numerous times at Tech and Texas (due to proximity, I'm sure). If she plans to sign in November, it's doubtful she'll get that opportunity.

After her unofficial visit to LSU last month, her Dad provided an interesting quote.

"Once we got out there it felt how it was supposed to feel like. We’ve taken Texas and Texas Tech unofficials, but Louisiana is different that’s for sure.”

I'm not honestly sure what to think of that comment. I'm guessing it was the family's first visit to Baton Rouge and perhaps even in the state of Louisiana. Could be the cultural diversity is not like what it is in Lubbock or Austin; or he could have meant something else.

Why is LSU "out there" from Texas?

I generally think of "out there" as traveling West and "back there" as traveling East. "Up there" is North and "down there" is South.

Just curious (and perhaps quirky.). I hear people in Georgia and South Carolina refer to going "down there" when talking about a trip to Tennessee or North Carolina and it drives me a bit crazy. Yeah, I know I'm probably not quite normal.
 
Talia Goodman was on a podcast recently talking about Chavez recruitment, believes the list of serious consideration is smaller than her released list today and believes it will come down to Texas and LSU, who are expected to get the last visits and have been set up within the last week
