OMFG, they hare hysterical. They actually think their supposed titles from 1927 and 1936 are meaningful. Careful ND, the Father doesn't like when we lie and brag, He might smote your shiny golden dome heads.
That totally sounds plausible as a statement by ND. 'Sure we finished 13–18, but of course you would want us in the NCAA tournament anyway. Thus, for the good of mankind, we will withdraw our name from consideration for a tournament bid.'

(It might be a fake)

Unless you’re a vampire who’s been alive for over a century, nobody else on Earth right now gives a **** about the politicking of Fielding Yost from back in the leather helmet days.

In 2026 and for at least the last 40 years before that, ND has simply done what was in their own best financial interest. For decades they’ve controlled their schedule and made top dollar through their own TV deal. It worked for them, so there was no pressure to do anything.

Could that change in the future? Maybe maybe not. However if they find themselves facing a major financial disparity or a lack of relevance related to scheduling, the actions of a dumb *** racist from 125+ years ago won’t stop them from joining The B1G. They’ll do what is in their best interest as they’ve always done.
Somehow the teams managed to put aside their differences long enough to play each other each year (maybe missed a couple) from 1978 until 2014. When they were putting 100,000 Fannie’s into Michigan Stadium or 80,000 plus into Notre Dame stadium I’m not sure that Yost’s no Catholics need apply attitude made much difference.

It didn’t stop ND from joining the BIGgot 10 Hockey Conference when it made financial sense either. Terry’s History Lesson is something that their fans tell themselves to feel better about the school continuing to act wholly in their own best interest. The thing is I don’t blame them. Do it as long as you can get away with it I suppose, but understand a day may be coming when your current circumstances are turned on their head.

Yup, one bad coaching hire and a couple years of losing will induce a change in attitude.

Are you saying that the Big Ten has not been stalking ND for decades, trying to "checkmate" ND, destroy its independence and force it to join that conference vfor football against its will?

Whew! Great news. What a relief.......

Everyone acts in their own self interest is all that I said and it’s all that I’ll continue to say. Its been in the best interest of The B1G financially to try to get ND Football to join the conference since at least the early 90’s. Apparently it is still in the overall best interest for ND to piggyback on The ACC so they continue to do so. That said, a day is coming where being independent will no longer make financial sense. At that point decisions will be made with a mind on the next 100 years not the prior. Maybe they do go to The SEC, but it won’t be because of a turd who coached football when people were driving a Model T.

Or has it been consistently courting ND?

(Though I've said this before, Notre Dame has done an outstanding job carving out a niche for itself. For a small university to occupy such a big place in the national athletics consciousness is a really big deal. My only knock against ND is that they look after their own interests, and not necessarily their conference partners. Now, to be clear, they have no obligation to look after anyone else, but that's something to be aware of anytime you are involved with them. Even with that, though, being involved with them typically is better than not, at least for a while. I am a begrudging fan of their administration. )
