GOR upholds and FSU, Clemson and UNC pay their way out? Conference is fine. But if no one has to pay an insurmountable fee to leave then at least six are going and possibly 9-10. Once more than 3-4 start leaving then it's a sinking ship unless you can pull teams from the Big XII

The media partners don't want to keep paying 4 conferences. That's why the PAC is dead. They want to pay 2. What good is staying in the ACC if your next contract is $20-$25 mil per year when you can get $30+ in the Big XII

The departure fees (separate and distinct from GOR buyout, which is what would go away) is a little more than $100 million.

ESPN needs to provide new TV deal by February 2025. Without FSU, Clemson, NC and perhaps Miami that new contract will be less than the current contract.
 
Suppose that four or five of the ACC's most desirable properties decamp for obviously greener pastures. What's to prevent a majority (or whatever it takes) of the more attractive left-behinds from voting to dissolve the conference? Absent a viable conference, would they be freed of their obligations to pay a buyout and suffer GOR penalties? If so, then some accept offers of lateral moves to ensure their survival, and some are left with no choice but to settle for less.

True, but that wouldn't be the alternative. What it would be is a price to move from one second tier power conference to another with a string likelyhood that they would never come close to recouping the cost.

let’s see what happens in February 2025 when new TV offer from ESPN comes out. The amount will be much less if the top two football teams leave the conference. ESPN will decide if ACC becomes like the PAC.

It depends how many leave. If 5 teams leave and your next media deal is projected to be $15/yr after the exodus then it pays for itself in six years. It's a sound investment at that point.

If the ACC loses UNC, FSU, Clemson, VA and Miami, then loses L’ville, NC state and Vt, who is left in football? GT? Pitt? Syracuse?

If ACC loses those three, league is cooked. If they can limit losses to 4, ACC easily adds SDSU, Tulane, UConn and USF. Very much on par with Big 12
 
It has been estimated that FSU and Clemson are about 25% of the ACC's tv value. So if/when they leave, the ACC becomes less valuable per school than the Big12. ESPN rewrites the contract. And the others immediately look elsewhere (they'd be negligent if they haven't already had back channel conversations with the Big12).

This guy is an idiot. Why would FOX agree to "let" ESPN take 2 brands from the ACC and just decide to close up shop and not add any teams in the southeast? That makes no sense. FOX/B1G is getting into the southeast, it's just a matter of which team(s) that includes.

It makes even less sense because the networks are the ones trying to consolidate and force a power two. They want consolidation.

It would be great if they don't, because then we will be in a really solid ACC. But that ain't happening

Absolutely agree. For example, if the data they used was "universities in New Jersey" it's understandable how Rutgers came out ahead of Virginia. Of course if they used any other data, whatsoever, then that's a pretty anomalous result.

Obviously Rutgers benefits by playing Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, 3 of the top 10 teams on the list.

He offers his reasoning in his tweet. It could be 2. It could be 4, depending on whether teh B1G and SEC want 18, 20, etc. Whatever the number is, it makes sense to keep Big 12 and ACC in tact.

none of those teams are leaving to the Big 12, lateral move competition and financially, they'll add a few teams then leave it at there
