Non-Key Tweets

Not a Tweet, but totally Non-Key:

"DO YOU THINK THERE WILL EVER BE ANOTHER EDITION OF REALIGNMENT LIKE THERE WAS YEARS AGO, AND WHO WOULD BE THE TEAMS LIKELY TO MOVE?"

Mandel more or less just made fun of the all-caps question, but I'll take a thoughtful stab at it.

It's impossible to predict whether or not something massive as the Great Realignment will occur again. I will say realignment on some scale is probably never going to stop happening, and there are rumblings once again that the Big 12 would like to expand.

If they do take two more, my prediction (this is pure speculation, based on zero rumors or anything I've read) naturally look towards the American Athletic Conference. The first team they will take is UConn. The addition of West Virginia proves that geography matters not to the conference, and having no one that can raise their football profile any further that's willing to join, they will look instead at a program that raises, at least in a historical sense, their basketball profile and instantly give them the best women's basketball program in the country.

The second team will come down to Houston or Temple; in the end, they'll take Temple because they want that new market. If they drag their feet on expansion for a couple years and UCF stays as dominant as they were last year in that time, they'll get a long look, as well.

I don't think so.

BOWLSBY: “...Most of our members would like to see us aggregate and have some sort of digital network that would allow for standardization of distribution and a shared capture of revenue.”

Bowlsby is talking B12 3rd Tier Rights.
“Most of our members”

The question moving forward for Texas...

Is it more important for Texas to stop any digital B12 Network which would share Resources and Revenues among B12, or cave in on B12 Schools demand so not to increase likelihood Oklahoma bolts B12 after 2025?

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 13h13 hours ago
According to Bowlsby not everyone is on board yet. Obviously it’s Texas holding up the shared B12 Digital Network.

Clock is ticking.

If OU bolts, UT bolts too. The question is just how committed UT is to the Big 12.

The AD may not have his ego tied to the LHN, in fact may even have a soft spot for the B12, given his background, UT alumni, boosters etc may limit his ability to dump the LHN, or even save the B12!

Because losing TV rights is more affordable in the last two years of the deal. My bet is that two from the Pac 12 move over.

#smh. Two @pac12 schools will not join the #BigXII once #KU and #OU leaves. I am confident the conference survives, but will have to reach into the G5/#BYU to replace them.

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 22h22 hours ago
Yes Chris...you’ve come a long ways from telling everyone that all 10 B12 schools are happy and don’t want to go anywhere in future. 2021 will know KU & OU 3rd Tier plans for their current contracts will be ending. 2021 is important year.

All of that is true. Kansas is still putting in 300+ million from donors into their football program to increase their chances of surviving next round of Realignment,

Kansas getting themselves ready for possible Realignment scenarios when Big 12 GOR ends July 1st, 2025.

So if the B1G wanted Oklahoma as an expansion team, is Kansas a given to go with them assuming no ACC teams bite on an invite? From a contiguous stand point of view they have to for the connection to Oklahoma. Our undergrad US News ranking is better (#18 Public/#56 National vs #53/#115), but Kansas is AAU which likely trumps the undergrad rankings. Currently they are a better basketball school than us, but Adidas and Coach Hurley may end up putting that in our favor. No question what the Lady Huskies bring to the table. Both football teams stunk, but ours was ranked better (114 vs 123) in the battle of the bums. Connecticut offers a higher population, part of the NYC DMA (in case other carriers balk at the Big Ten Network) and an access point to New England. Is there any chance we could make it a race or do I give up now. I'm optimistic at the moment.
Obviously I'm assuming current statistics are still valid in 6 years, but what else can we do?

Our big issue is current perception. By being in a G5 league, we are less desirable than Kansas. If you poach Kansas, you are poaching a P5 school. Stupid, but true.
That's a fan perspective. I saw it all the time reading landthieves where they always looked down on G5 schools, even if they were better candidates than half of what they already have in their league.
My hope is that commissioners are smarter than that when looking to maximize value. CT also brings lacrosse recruiting & hockey recruiting as well as an entry point to NE basketball. I believe I can make a much better case for CT compared to Kansas. I would of course revisit @Dooley and his magnificent write-up from some time ago as my starting point.

It all depends on how much the Big10 wants Oklahoma and will not taking Kansas affect Oklahoma’s decision. UConn and Kansas are very similar in many regards, some Kansas wins out and others UConn does. The big factor is Oklahoma. I think the Big10 does want Oklahoma. They, in their own right, have a ton of value in football. They are a power. It also is the best road to acquiring Texas (the biggest prize for any conference). Turn away Oklahoma and I believe you turn away any chance of getting Texas.

If Kansas is a requirement for getting Oklahoma, I believe they are the choice. Here is the thing, though, if Texas is in play, I believe you are as well.

Give up now! Lady Huskies? Since when? No ACC teams can leave before 2036, so forget that notion. The best thing that could happen is OK and KS to the B1G and UConn and some AAC schools form a new P5 Conference with the remnants of the Big 12 and some of the AAC schools. Of course, UConn could be left out of that as well. LaCrosse and hockey are meaningless in conference realignment.

Give up now! ... LaCrosse and hockey are meaningless in conference realignment.
I didn't expect that kind of nonsensical squashing of my dreams, but OK. You made a very compelling argument. Kudos.
I understand those other sports are irrelevant to conference realignment. But when two schools are so similar in what they bring in the key sports, good hoops and bad football in this case, you have to look at the secondary offerings. That is why I mentioned the Lady Huskies and the recruiting grounds for sports like MBB, Hockey & LAX that we would give them greater access to. I think the only things KS has over us is they are already P5 (for fan perception only), AAU, better MBB for the moment (with an ugly investigation looming) and, as @dayooper said, the possibility that OK may require them.

KU has been awfully aggressive behind the scenes according to BTM reports. You would think they would keep it more quiet but it’s leaking out in public now. Buckle up Daniel..next Spring things will get a little more interesting.

Daniel Mountcastle‏ @Expansion_Crush 16h16 hours ago
It does appear that Oklahoma and Kansas are coordinating ad BTM has stated. If I was the Big Ten I'd give them a front loaded deal like Maryland got.

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 16h16 hours ago
I think you are correct. But KU has lots of work to do as we all know.

Daniel Mountcastle‏ @Expansion_Crush 16h16 hours ago
I like them for the BB. I wouldn't mind having another Indiana level FB school in the B1G. Indiana has the record for losses of any FBS school. Anyways, the likelihood of them making that jump before 2023 is very slim.

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 15h15 hours ago
If KU gets a Big Ten invite it means OU is coming with them. KU needs to have a basic level of FB value..it can’t be 18,000 attendance with no TV media market for FB. KU has work to do..they’ve been told.

DocBunyan‏ @DocBunyan 15h15 hours ago
Hope they have more market demand than @RFootball - supposedly from the “state university of new jersey”. I lost their football game on the radio 15 minutes from campus. Should be able to get their game from the poconos to cape may and all points in between. Sad.

Why would any firm give away money to get information they can get publicly for free?

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 2h2 hours ago
This deal has been done all over Europe. Firm would get their Ads for free or at discount on valuable slots.

SethicusMaximus‏ @LonestarAlford 52m52 minutes ago
How would it be for free if they’re giving up revenue for the arrangement? A student-athlete can easily win a court case using HIPPA as a reason not to divulge his/her medical condition.

This concept kind of makes sense....UConn guys should like it...

Some good basketball...pretty good football

We created 5 NCAA super conferences based on geography, and they're beautiful

THE CAPITAL CONFERENCE

North

... Army
...Boston College
...UConn
...Maryland
...Navy
...Penn State
...Rutgers
...Syracuse

South

...Duke
...East Carolina
...North Carolina
...NC State
...Virginia
...Virginia Tech
...Wake Forest
...WVU

Unless the state legislatures had money over for no reason there isn’t any money to get.

On top of the fact his own stupid tweets from two days ago make no sense. We here at the Boneyard know you there at Flueg Empire are frauds.

You don't seem to understand, they were on the call. That puts them way ahead of other schools who were not on the call. And miles ahead of West Virginia, because they have phone service.
