My opinion is this... in the end ESPN & Fox will continue to pay the Big 12 enough to keep them 3rd in earnings because UT & OU moving would set off consolidation & a phenomenal increase (to the level of the NFL) in rights fees.

Mandel more or less just made fun of the all-caps question, but I'll take a thoughtful stab at it.

It's impossible to predict whether or not something massive as the Great Realignment will occur again. I will say realignment on some scale is probably never going to stop happening, and there are rumblings once again that the Big 12 would like to expand.

If they do take two more, my prediction (this is pure speculation, based on zero rumors or anything I've read) naturally look towards the American Athletic Conference. The first team they will take is UConn. The addition of West Virginia proves that geography matters not to the conference, and having no one that can raise their football profile any further that's willing to join, they will look instead at a program that raises, at least in a historical sense, their basketball profile and instantly give them the best women's basketball program in the country.

The second team will come down to Houston or Temple; in the end, they'll take Temple because they want that new market. If they drag their feet on expansion for a couple years and UCF stays as dominant as they were last year in that time, they'll get a long look, as well.

So if the B1G wanted Oklahoma as an expansion team, is Kansas a given to go with them assuming no ACC teams bite on an invite? From a contiguous stand point of view they have to for the connection to Oklahoma. Our undergrad US News ranking is better (#18 Public/#56 National vs #53/#115), but Kansas is AAU which likely trumps the undergrad rankings. Currently they are a better basketball school than us, but Adidas and Coach Hurley may end up putting that in our favor. No question what the Lady Huskies bring to the table. Both football teams stunk, but ours was ranked better (114 vs 123) in the battle of the bums. Connecticut offers a higher population, part of the NYC DMA (in case other carriers balk at the Big Ten Network) and an access point to New England. Is there any chance we could make it a race or do I give up now. I'm optimistic at the moment.
Obviously I'm assuming current statistics are still valid in 6 years, but what else can we do?

That's a fan perspective. I saw it all the time reading landthieves where they always looked down on G5 schools, even if they were better candidates than half of what they already have in their league.
My hope is that commissioners are smarter than that when looking to maximize value. CT also brings lacrosse recruiting & hockey recruiting as well as an entry point to NE basketball. I believe I can make a much better case for CT compared to Kansas. I would of course revisit @Dooley and his magnificent write-up from some time ago as my starting point.

It all depends on how much the Big10 wants Oklahoma and will not taking Kansas affect Oklahoma’s decision. UConn and Kansas are very similar in many regards, some Kansas wins out and others UConn does. The big factor is Oklahoma. I think the Big10 does want Oklahoma. They, in their own right, have a ton of value in football. They are a power. It also is the best road to acquiring Texas (the biggest prize for any conference). Turn away Oklahoma and I believe you turn away any chance of getting Texas.

If Kansas is a requirement for getting Oklahoma, I believe they are the choice. Here is the thing, though, if Texas is in play, I believe you are as well.

Give up now! Lady Huskies? Since when? No ACC teams can leave before 2036, so forget that notion. The best thing that could happen is OK and KS to the B1G and UConn and some AAC schools form a new P5 Conference with the remnants of the Big 12 and some of the AAC schools. Of course, UConn could be left out of that as well. LaCrosse and hockey are meaningless in conference realignment.

I didn't expect that kind of nonsensical squashing of my dreams, but OK. You made a very compelling argument. Kudos.
I understand those other sports are irrelevant to conference realignment. But when two schools are so similar in what they bring in the key sports, good hoops and bad football in this case, you have to look at the secondary offerings. That is why I mentioned the Lady Huskies and the recruiting grounds for sports like MBB, Hockey & LAX that we would give them greater access to. I think the only things KS has over us is they are already P5 (for fan perception only), AAU, better MBB for the moment (with an ugly investigation looming) and, as @dayooper said, the possibility that OK may require them.

I like them for the BB. I wouldn't mind having another Indiana level FB school in the B1G. Indiana has the record for losses of any FBS school. Anyways, the likelihood of them making that jump before 2023 is very slim.
