It seems pretty clear that the Big 12 is moving towards CR....and it seems clear that they will look east for at least one team.

If the Big 12 goes to two teams from the east, UConn is about guaranteed a slot.

I see WVU, Cincinnati, and UConn in a division, how they split the rest might be in a north-south alignment but that may be problematic among members.

It has to be a good bet that the Huskies will be playing in a P5 in the near future....the question for me is whether the B1G goes preemptive to keep UConn for their league.
Until UConn attains AAU status the B1G IMHO will be out of the conversation.

I believe AAU holds their annual meetings in the Spring and the Big Ten includes 13 of the 61 US institutions. If membership is as arbitrary as they say, and UConn has performed better than current members in certain key metrics, could the Big Ten possibly find 19 ambivelent votes?

Harbaugh is holding a camp in Tampa Bay area...and now Urban announces a camp to be held in Jacksonville....

If the B1G want to get into Florida for recruits, might not the Big 12?

Yeah they have their eyes on a school located in Tallahassee

They have had those big eyes for a while....like a laborer on the street whistling at a pretty woman walking by.

Ain't going to happen for either of them.

And yet Rule #1 is screaming in the back of my mind. If CR has taught me anything, it's to expect the unexpected.

I'm surprised we don't have cup vendors advertising on the Boneyard. They'd make a killing.

I'd say that's a solid no. Not only do the B1G make up only a small percentage of those schools, the majority of the schools are academics first and could give two sh!ts about the B1G's athletic aspirations. Plus even if they do decide to vote for new members, they aren't going to "skip" over more viable candidates to choose who the B1G wants.

I think a good degree of skepticism is both warranted and healthy here.

That said, I'm with you that rumors with specific timetables and names are usually worth a second look.

The thing that gives me hope, along with the specifics, are comments like these from Boren. I've been saying for a while now, listen to what Boren says. What he wants. It is not about football performance. Aside from money and markets, it's about the profiles of the universities in the league, and recruiting....students and faculty, not players.

Boren from Tramel article:
“I think people are being very sincere about trying to look at the figures and the facts,” Boren said. “Not be emotional about it or ‘I want this school' or ‘I want that.'

“Well, what are their academics? What's their research base? How well do they fit our academic profile? How well do they fit our fan base profile? How many dollars in their market do they bring to the table? We're looking at all that. In terms of the network and those dollars, we're looking with our TV consultants to tell us.”

Jim Harbaugh has the SEC and ACC so rattled that it is becoming a topic in the expansion talks. Now that is a #harbaugheffect

@Gmoneyri Texas is the prime jewel.

Bluevod ‏@Bluevodreal Feb 11
@Gmoneyri Oklahoma would come with them.

@Bluevodreal any guess on expansion teams?

@Bluevodreal so really there could end up being 4 major conferences. Can't see Illinois staying in Big 10. Missouri would have been good

That the B1G could want Texas, assuming the Long Horns can learn ho to play nicely with their neighbors and that Oklahoma would go with them to the B1G is not groundbreaking. Moving to a P4 conference alignment has been the rumor since the playoff system was created. BC going to the B1G or Illinois leaving the B1G is a joke.

Yeah, I don't understand what "Can't see Illinois staying in Big 10" means.

What's interesting if this plays out is that all the major conferences, except the locked in west coast conference the PAC, has a part of NY market. Just happens to end up this way?!

What part of the New York market will the SEC have?

I agree...if things go to a P-4...it will be the ACC who is in trouble. If that happens BC is in big trouble trying to find a landing spot.

If AAU status is a requirement for entry, they have the wrong side of Comm. Ave: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_American_Universities#Membership

I see Boren with 3 options:

Plan A - would mean expansion, conf champ game and B12 Network. It seems like UConn finally has a champion in Boren who is making it clear what he wants and that he has the 2 teams to make his plan work lined up and ready to go. Hopefully Plan A moves forward because I think we will be a part of it. All of the interviews in the past couple of weeks have suddenly turned very positive about all of our metrics and have even called out UConn specifically. Someone at UConn finally figured out this is about relationships and convincing a champion to provide some positive spin in the press to get us buy in from AD's, Presidents and ultimately the fans.

Plan B - For all the sabre rattling that Boren has done in the last 6-8 months you would expect him to have a Plan B if he doesn't get what he wants out of the B12. It might be a ticket to the B1G with Kansas or UConn or it could be to the SEC or PAC12 which would not include us. Plan B makes me nervous. Too many variables with mass realignment. There is always a new reason we are not acceptable and a viable alternative to take our place and we have been at the losing end of that kick too many times.

Plan C - negotiate for 3 things assuming you will only get 1 or 2 which includes the only thing that truly matters to you: the Longhorn Network changes to the B12 Network. This could work and might even include a champ game which has already been approved for 10 thereby getting you 2 of your 3 publically stated goals.

I feel pretty good about Plan A right now but there are a lot of hurdles to overcome. We'll know what happens in the next couple of months but this is a terrible time to not have a well known, respected AD working on this 24/7. Time to cover up!

Let's see, they could have a flagship university with multiple national championships, great academics and 31,000 students that owns the state's media market and has a piece of NYC; or a small private university that sucks at everything except hockey and has little popular support even within its own city.

Agreed to a point, except Boren has already boxed himself into a corner by proclaiming that it's all 3 things or nothing. It's gonna be tough to back off that statement, and he doesn't seem like the type to back off a position.
