Only question I'd have is with all of the garbage going on with the XL renovation funding, where would UConn/the state get the $$ for such an expansion? Of course it wouldn't be $250 million, but if they can't get money to redo a decaying facility, how are they going to budget money to expand the Rent? Plenty of NIMBYs and morons in CT to protest funding for it.

Feathered in tiered revenue from conference affiliation? If/When a conference deal is signed sealed and delivered, there has to be a creative above the table way to "funnel" the money received by the school back to the State to underwrite expansion costs for Rent/XL? I could be wrong on the financing/bonding side...

Nippert Stadium will need to add about 8k more seats in the next 8 years if they join B12.

UC president tells AD to "get ready" in regards to changing conference affiliations.

Aerocat ‏@aerocat08 3h3 hours ago
@MH ver3 We gonna have to wait until May?

MH ver3‏@MH ver3 2h2 hours ago
@aerocat08 may or June before there is even a vote to add. Then the waiting game to join.i doubt you will do the 27 month thing.

@MH ver3 sc keep Clemson out of the sec?

MH ver3 ‏@MH ver3 Feb 6
@BBartlett819 no SECN keeps Clemson and FSU out in favor of new markets in VA and NC

Seanbo Sengo ‏@SeanboSengo Feb 7
@MHver3 @BBartlett819 sec wont allow FSU and Clemson to go to b1g or b12

MH ver3 ‏@MH ver3 Feb 7
@SeanboSengo @BBartlett819 then why didn't they target them when they expanded last before the ACC GOR?

Seanbo Sengo‏@SeanboSengo Feb 7
@MH ver3 @BBartlett819 ACC keeps Clemson & FSU down, B1G would give them more money to compete against SEC schools.

TheFrogCast ‏@TheFrogCastTCU 2h2 hours ago
@SeanboSengo @MH ver3 @BBartlett819 Big Ten wanting FSU and Clemson with their shit academics! Ha

MH ver3 ‏@MH ver3 2h2 hours ago
@TheFrogCastTCU @SeanboSengo @BBartlett819 FSU was already turned down by both sec and B10 years ago. Not on their radar.

MH ver3 ‏@MH ver3 2h2 hours ago
Rentschler would also need to add at least 8K after joining but that will be less of an undertaking then Nippert.

Lime_GeorgiaSouthern ‏@limebalz1 1h1 hour ago
@MH ver3 UCONN and Cinci is not a positive move for BIG12. Just adding lackluster programs who've done squat in recent years

MH ver3‏@MH ver3 1h1 hour ago
@limebalz1 I would take them over Rutgers and Maryland any day.

@theDudeofWV @alexbrowns19 Its not just DMA there are schools available with a larger DMA then you just listed but are not candidates....

Christopher Lambert ‏@theDudeofWV 26m26 minutes ago
@Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 Not in the east.

Mike Ross ‏@Mike_ohio26 17m17 minutes ago
@theDudeofWV @alexbrowns19 last time I checked Temple is in the east.....Philadelphia is top 5

Christopher Lambert ‏@theDudeofWV 16m16 minutes ago
@Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 Mike, really Temple. Look at their financials.

Mike Ross ‏@Mike_ohio26 14m14 minutes ago
@theDudeofWV @alexbrowns19 kinda like Rutgers when the B1G brought them in for DMA ..Once again this expansion isn't only about DMA

Christopher Lambert ‏@theDudeofWV 10m10 minutes ago
@Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 RU was only brought in for there DMA.

Mike Ross ‏@Mike_ohio26 2m2 minutes ago
@theDudeofWV @alexbrowns19 making my point U said those other schools would be the choice because they lead in DMA Other things factor too

Christopher Lambert ‏@theDudeofWV 21m21 minutes ago
@Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 UC doesn't lead the pack in any metric. That's the truth.

Steven Czyrny ‏@stevenczyrny 1h1 hour ago
@theDudeofWV @Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 based on football and basketball cincy is the best out of those.

Christopher Lambert ‏@theDudeofWV 22m22 minutes ago
@stevenczyrny @Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 BYU? UCONN hopes is better. UC football has been barely average against weak competition.

Steven Czyrny ‏@stevenczyrny 21m21 minutes ago
@theDudeofWV @Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 yes BYU is the best, but they weren't part of that group listed.

Christopher Lambert ‏@theDudeofWV 20m20 minutes ago
@stevenczyrny @Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 I did. If I didn't it was by error.

Steven Czyrny ‏@stevenczyrny 18m18 minutes ago
@theDudeofWV @Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 uc brings a good state, metro area, good academics, and solid football and basketball plus near wv

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 11m11 minutes ago
@stevenczyrny @Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 Honestly. Compare UC metric by metric to the others. Does it lead in any?

Christopher Lambert‏@theDudeofWV 13m13 minutes ago
@stevenczyrny @Mike_ohio26 @alexbrowns19 If I were a UC fan I would accept whatever advantage they had.

ME: Seriously, if you're eventually picked by the Big 12, I'll open a thread to congratulate you.

I have seen this many times before and have always been intrigued what the potential plans might be, are there any stories/ examples for what the potentially renovated rent would look like or where it is we would add seats?

This has been publicly released. The foundatons are in place, and the rest rooms and food service areas were built, to support a 10k to 12k addition going higher on the side behind the UConn bench. Fans have talked beyond that -- like putting in sides where the temporary Michigan seats were -- but the extra seats on the sunny side were planed for when they build the building.

Yep, my buddies dad worked up there as part of the operating engineers union, and that is exactly as i remember him telling me.

My only question is how much that would cost today.

And from one of our Star Wars "friends":

Utini ‏@PromiscuousJawa 2h2 hours ago
Lots of smoke. But no one w loose lips knows a thing. Believe that. B12 is on lockdown for info. 11 is decided and fully vetted. 12 isn't.

Utini ‏@PromiscuousJawa 2h2 hours ago
no new timetable or est on when. The next possibility is May/June. even then is foggy. Trust no one who isn't a prez/AD who says otherwise.

According to the website for Blakeslee Prestress, Inc., the company that did the concrete construction for the stadium, "The layout and design for the structure will allow expansion of another 20,000 seats in the future."

I think that this must be an error, though. Every other thing that I've read states that the stadium was built to be expanded to 50,000 seats.

Pre-construction and during construction, I distinctly remember 55K being quoted and cited many times. In more recent years, 50K has been referenced.

I don't take any of this news as news.
It's non-key news that isn't coming from anywhere or anyone who knows what's going on.

I'm still buying a new cup, just in case.

I remember the same - 55,000.

I took a tour before The Rent opened. Back then, they were saying seats could be added on all three non-club section sides to get us to 55K.

Put another level of stands on UConn's side of the stadium (opposite Suites). Put some bleachers on end zone with student section. Create an open air bar on the end zone opened towards Hartford. 500-750 "tickets" issued. No permanent seating, just bar height tables.
15,000 extra people per game with only one concourse to be built. Done in 10 months.

I screwed up with the student section end zone. It already has a second concourse. It just needs another 8-10 rows so that is even with two corners of the end zone.

A good image to see how another concourse would look on the UConn bench side of the field and how you could put an open air standing room only bar in the scoreboard end zone.

Reduced from 55k in early designs to compensate for the increased size of the average american body in 15+ years ;)
Hah, never been to home games in sections of Michigan, Penn State, Bama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and many other big 1-A schools? They squeeze 'em in with the best, or the worst, of 'em!

Michigan lost a lot of seats a few years ago due to widening of some aisles, and... fatter people.

This happened during and just after the major renovation and suite expansion so it was a modest net gain that was slightly offset by a small loss when all was said and done.

May stand correction Seaa Blue regarding some sections, but this reasonable-size adult found allotted seat space to be less than reasonable and neither excessively fat people nor extra #s of people appeared in the rows compared with neighboring rows. Respectfully, Mixhigan alum friends and I were not in the high rent district and they confirmed too many people are inserted by some sections' ticket sales - still enjoyed the games.

Take this with a grain of salt (seriously), but I was just told that the U. of Cincinnati has accepted a Big12 invite as of 2 weeks ago.

I've said it time and time again, from what I was directly told from certain UH personnel, we will be in P5.

For the many asking, I have not heard hardly anything about UCONN being on lock for the Big12. Not saying it's not true, but I'm skeptical.

Boiled down to the fact that UCONN is a great academics school in a great location...and that's about all

Isn't that kind of our value? Along with elite basketball and Olympic sports? He's seen the light!!!!

If these imbeciles make decisions based on current football performance, they deserve to suffer. There is no more stupid metric. UConn's football potential, as a flagship with really no local competition, is much higher than any of these schools.

It just goes to show you how important last season's 6-6 regular season finish was. The timing of it was impeccable. Thank you Coach Diaco.

What's it tell you that UCF was the front-runner to be No. 11 for 3 years, and now after a 1st round QB graduating, coaching change, and 0-12 season, they are lucky to be mentioned as an after thought for No. 14?

Louisville was bad...because the academics suck and their market sucks...but they had the athletic department budget of a P5. UConn does too. Nobody else does. Losing out to one of these remaining basket-cases would be much more painful. More like having your member and Senor Testiculo(s) beheaded by ISIS than a mere kick.

I am comforted only by the fact that the idiocy being displayed by those who don't have UConn at the top of the list is just that. Uninformed stupidity.

Memphis too. Haven't heard much at all about them since Fuente left.

Beating Houston probably was a good thing too. I mean really how good could Houston football be... UConn in a rebuilding year trumps Houston in their best year. :D

As far as funding for expanding the Rent goes... I wouldn't worry about it, if our entrance to a P5 is contingent on expansion of the Rent... I think the money would come pouring in.
