@Expansion_Crush
that is to protect WVU in case of B12 implosion before 2020. If implosion happens....WVU in ACC.

So....... if WVU enters the ACC, thy won't have to play Pittsburgh....... umm....

Why would realignment prevent WVU from playing Pitt? Maybe if the B12 or ACC goes to a 10 game conference schedule ... or if they are in the same conference and not in the same division? But ACC teams are scheduling each other non-conference these days. It is an odd provision, especially since it is so vague.

If The ACCN actually comes to fruition WVU to The ACC actually makes sense. It helps stabilize the market share they lost when UMD went to The B1G, and would provide the network with two established rivalry games against Pitt and WVU for potential broadcast.

Don't VT and WVU have some sort of a rivalry as well?

WVU had rivalries with Pitt and VT both.

The Backyard Brawl game with Pitt...and the Black Diamond Trophy game with VT.

If the Big 12 implodes we can look forward to playing West Virginia but it won't be as conference mates in the P4.

How stuffed can those shirts be if they took Louisville?

The landscape changed after they turned WVU down. In hindsight, they would prefer WVU to Louisville for sure. It's even academically superior and is at least a flagship public U (if not a great one). By the way, the B12 would prefer Louisville. It's too bad they can't work out a trade.

In a world that made sense, the ACC would trade Louisville and Pittsburgh to the Big XII for WVU and agreement not to recruit ACC schools for 10 years. Then the ACC would add UConn, and Big XII Cinci.

Kind of a big jump there don't you think?
My guess is that kind of language is more of a boilerplate these days in all game contracts due to the volatile nature of conference realignment than it is an indication that one or both teams may be on the verge of moving.

Yep. It's the conclusion that WVU ends up in the ACC that I found to be a jump.

It makes no sense. WVU.

Pretty hostile take on WVU IMO. I didn't realize that they were viewed so negatively by UCONN Fans. ND and BC I get for obvious reasons. Pitt and Cuse are close seconds for their efforts in killing The Big East. WVU though? Like UCONN they seemed kind of like a victim of circumstance. They hung around until the situation was entirely untenable. They took whatever life raft they could to get in a P5 Conference. Despite what some of their fans say they would give their last tooth for an invite to The ACC, SEC, or B1G. The only league that fits them worse than the 12-2 is The Pac, and just barely.

I don't think there's much, if any, angst towards WVU. They went out in a pretty douchy way. Kind of like the guy at work that quits with no notice and screws everyone at his old place. You gotta do whatcha gotta do though.

The angst, IMO, is directed at some of the "Conference Realignment Gurus." They all seem to be relatively unimportant people (that probably live in their parents' basement), that claim to have these great contacts. Whenever they're proven wrong, they move to the next hot tip. The Dood, in particular, also has this unrealistic view of WVU's place in college ... everything (sports, academics, whatever). All of a sudden, WVU (who as you say, was close to getting left in the cold), is a Big 12 team that has multiple landing spots in case the conference blows up, yet he thinks nobody would ever want UConn. Other than football (which is a big factor), UConn is a significantly more attractive institution.

I hope for nothing but the best for WVU and even Louisville. They took spots that could've been ours, but they did what they needed to do to survive.

UConn fans like WVU. They were great opponents in Big East days, every game was fun. Waquoit is just expressing general realignment dissatisfaction, nothing specific to WVU.

I always liked WVU fans. They were always loyal to the BE and rooted for their conference mates in the post/bowl season. They never snubbed us or talked down on us like "some" school's fans did after they found a life raft.

There has been a certain affinity between FSU and WVU...not that it would have any impact on WVU becoming a conference partner.

Bobby Bowden, of course, coached at WVU before heading to Florida, Two of his boys played football in Morgantown and his daughter married Jack Kines, a WVU football player.

The West Virginia connection continues with Jimbo Fisher as well as O line coach Rick Trickett being West Virginia boys.

But then you're still separating Pitt and WVU.

WVU earned a marker from me with their response to Jazz's death. Wish nothing but the best for them. The Dood and his ilk, not so much.
Meet too. They were way past outstanding after Jazz's Passing. Miss playing them (and all our other old opponents. This AAC thing Sucks out loud.)

Unless someone is going to argue that WVU is a national program, it's market is worthless. A 25 share in Charleston, WV doesn't impress Lexus or BMW.

Didn't WVU bring 50k to Fedex Field for a meaningless game a few years ago? What WVU gets you (beyond quality teams) is a foothold in the DMV. The West Virginia border from the district is only a little further than the Connecticut border to NYC.
