Why not? The NCAA has given UNC a pass and repeatedly allowed them to participate in the post season when they had a shot a championship. Why shouldn't Virginia expect to be treated similarly?

Flug did not break UND to the B1G, that's been floating around college hockey circles for years, even before Notre Dame joined as team #7 it was talked about.

Coaches took a few selfies with prospects....and self reported.

"The violations, according to the school, involved assistant football coaches, who, “after a brief greeting, engaging with prospects to take a photograph.” Because of the number of violations, it was a Level II infraction, according to the statement."

Jaywalking compared to serial murder if you are comparing to UNC.

Yeah, I meant that B1G- UND "recruiting" and "flirting" has been tweeted and discussed for a long time and that Flug is far from the first to "report" on that.

I was an ~okay~ hitter up through high school and legion baseball. I started playing slow pitch when I was 20. It took me seeing maybe 10 pitches to be really good at hitting a softball.

http://m.newsok.com/ou-wants-the-big-12-to-work/article/5548249 … Good read, but Berry Tramel is a bit behind the curve, ...not on how OU is thinking... ..but behind B1G thinking.

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 14h14 hours ago
http://m.newsok.com/ou-wants-the-big-12-to-work/article/5548249 … OU is not a "longshot" to become part of B1G due to academics/research. B1G will be one of OU suitors in 24

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 14h14 hours ago
Berry Tramel also devalues Conf Networks because of changes in TV/Media. This is also very naive. Streaming on Conf Networks = REV stream

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 14h14 hours ago
OU/KU are thirsting for more academic/research/athletic exposure. "Exposure" is the word always missing from B12 writers/bloggers articles.

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke May 5
I think OU, Texas and Kansas for sure are a combo of B1G and SEC. Who is the fourth most attractive school? Who also strikes gold?

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
BS.

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke May 6
It's an opinion buddy. Btw, in that scenario, I'm assuming your West Virginia is scooped up by the ACC anyway.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Boren campaigned for the GoR. So how would that play out in court?

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke May 6
No scenario where Texas, OU, Kansas West Virginia, and others buy their way out to go to Power 4? Sorry I'm not a lawyer.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Not really. The price is already set and it's far too high. Best just to wait it out.

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke May 6
So West Virginia will still be playing a conference game in west Texas in 2024? Gross.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
The one caveat is this. If the ACC network is just digital then the Big 12 might just go ahead with plans to extend GoR only.

DocBunyan‏ @DocBunyan 23h23 hours ago
B12 ain't extending squat when OU wants out.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 10h10 hours ago
B1G passed on OU. OU doesn't want P12 or ACC. SEC doesn't want or need OKST.

Great Americans‏ @Expansion_Crush 5h5 hours ago
What's keeping the B12 viable is because Texas wants it to be viable.

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 5h5 hours ago

B1G never passed on OU.

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke 5h5 hours ago
Replying to @flugempire @Expansion_Crush and
I would agree with this. If they took Nebraska and Rutgers, they'd absolutely welcome OU.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Think about how good UT has it in the B12. They will always be top 5 in $. They rarely have to travel outside of Texas.

Great Americans‏ @Expansion_Crush 5h5 hours ago
But what if Oklahoma gets tired of being second fiddle?

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
The SEC would take OU but not OKST. Plus Stoops doesn't want OU in the SEC for obvious reasons.

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke 5h5 hours ago
I'm fascinated by who the sec would want after OU? NC State? Texas? Kansas?

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Culture is important to the SEC too. KU isn't a SEC culture.

Great Americans‏ @Expansion_Crush 5h5 hours ago
I would have said that about Missouri 6 years ago

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke 5h5 hours ago
Yes culture can change

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Wait. The SEC regrets adding Mizzou over WVU. One reason is Mizzou isn't a cultural fit for the SEC.

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke 5h5 hours ago
Agree to disagree on that one. You talk about tv markets. No tv markets like St. Louis or KC in West Virginia.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
WV is in the Pitt market.
John Adams: SEC needs to swap Missouri for West Virginia

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke 5h5 hours ago
That's one large market smaller than St. Louis and KC.

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 5h5 hours ago
Replying to @kylegoeke @theDudeofWV and
ACC already into DC with VA Tech(Virginia somewhat)..ACC already into Pittsburgh, WVU doesn't give much added juice to ACCN regards to Media

Great Americans‏ @Expansion_Crush 5h5 hours ago
Missouri is a different beast

hristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
I dissagree. Missouri isn't a state that worships football. WV is..

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke 5h5 hours ago
At the end of the day, Missouri has the tv viewers and geography against WV. WV would be on another island in the SEC. Not that you'd care

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
2020 is the key year. If the B12 agrees to let WVU leave for the ACC & ESPN/Fox let the B12 replace WVU with UC we know the B12 is done.

Julius Johnson‏ @JuliusJ85224635 5h5 hours ago
I'm confused. Why would FOX, ESPN let WVU go to ACC? I would enjoy this if it took place but why would other Big 12 universities approve?

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 4h4 hours ago
Replying to @JuliusJ85224635 @theDudeofWV and
So B12 is going to let WVU go to ACC and in return become DOA under Dude's logic...and that's what B12 wants? No logic in any of this...

Greg Flugaur‏ @flugempire 4h4 hours ago
Replying to @JuliusJ85224635 @theDudeofWV and

The ACC has legitimate interest in WVU. Think of the value WVU has to TV in the ACC. Rivalries with Pitt, VT, UVA, NCST, Syracuse.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
The WVU - Pitt/VT rivalries alone are must see TV. But as much as good as a fit as WVU is in the ACC the fact remains they are bound by GoR

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
Here's a fact everyone forgets. OU & UT are bound by the GoR even more than the others in the B12. Why? They wrote it.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
Being the authors of the GoR means they understood fully well what they are getting into.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6

There is a video of Boren holding a presser about the GoR. He says very clearly OU wanted it to stop schools from leaving.

Texas doesn't care. They don't want out but they don't care if the Big 12 folds at some point.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @flugempire @Expansion_Crush
Ask any ACC person who is on the short list for #16. It's 1. WVU 2. UCONN 3. UC.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @flugempire @Expansion_Crush
No question ACC would need to add 1 more with ND to have two 8 team divisions. No question greatest value is adding WVU with ND.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
Any school trying to buy its way out of the GoR would lose more $ per year by doing so than they would make in new conference.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
But WVU has sovereign immunity which maybe the only legit challenge to the GoR combined with a geographical / opportunity argument.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6

If that happens you could see the B12 let WVU walk & cut Baylor then merge with the PAC 12.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
To me the 20 member B12-P12 merger is the most realistic scenario for many reasons.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
Move Arz & Arizona State to the B12 division. Have 10 in each. 9 Div games plus 1 cross over.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
Largest TV footprint in CFB. It would command as much money as B1G & SEC.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
Plus UT & OU get to stay in the same div with the other Tx schools (sans BU) & OKST.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
For the PAC 12 a merger solves the timezone problem & increases revenues to match SEC & B1G.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
Expansion is about making money for everyone - including TV. A B12/P12 merger with WVU going to the ACC does that. Nothing else does.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
The people I talk to honestly believe the B12/P12 merger is the only logical solution for both.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
Here are the other issues. Texas doesn't want in the B1G. The SEC doesn't want OKST. The B1G doesn't want OU without UT.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
Only Texas & ND have enough intrinsic value to TV to add $ to the TV contracts of both B1G & SEC.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
Here's my final thought. I love the B12. WVU is a perfect fit aside from geography.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
But a merger with the PAC 12 or expansion with schools west of the Mississippi means WVU has more travel expenses.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV May 6
Replying to @kylegoeke @Expansion_Crush @flugempire
WVU's relationship with Pitt, VT, Syracuse, Clemson (Clements) & FSU (Jimbo) is a perfect fit.

I'm not popular for this but OU doesn't have many options.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 11h11 hours ago

B1G passed on OU. OU doesn't want P12 or ACC. SEC doesn't want or need OKST.
Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 10h10 hours ago
Those who focus on OU's perceived unhappiness in the Big 12 miss the point entirely.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 10h10 hours ago
OU isn't unhappy as a member of the Big 12. They are unhappy with the state of the Big 12 & the future of the conference.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 10h10 hours ago
The B12's issue is Texas has always been on the catbird seat. UT controls it's own future therefore a healthy B12 isn't as important to them

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 10h10 hours ago
Texas sees the Big 12 as convenient. Revenue isn't really a concern for them.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 10h10 hours ago
OU fans don't want to believe it but the B1G has little interest because taking OU would likely shut the door on UT in the B1G.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 10h10 hours ago
The SEC would take OU, but not if it means taking OKST too. The package deal cuts OU's value in half.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 10h10 hours ago
The ACC isn't an option for OU & the B12 earns more than the P12.

DFW‏ @DerrikFredrick 10h10 hours ago
Where does WVU play into the SEC/ACC picture if at all?

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 10h10 hours ago

WVU is always on the SEC radar. Missed the cut 3 times now. Many regret taking Mizzou over WVU.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 10h10 hours ago

But the ACC is a better fit for WVU. Historic rivals Pitt, VT & Syracuse already in the conf.

STLBYU‏ @stlbyu 6h6 hours ago
@theDudeofWV So what do you think will happen now to the B12 when the contract ends? I think they need to expand in order to stay together.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 6h6 hours ago

The only way the Big 12 & Pac 12 can hope to match B1G & SEC revenues is to merge.

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke 6h6 hours ago

WV borders KY & sits close to Tenn.

Kyle Goeke‏ @kylegoeke 5h5 hours ago

Julius Johnson‏ @JuliusJ85224635 5h5 hours ago
Thanks, So Big 12 schools would rather have Cincinnati because of travel? I know ACC travel would help us out. Hopefully this happens.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Replying to @JuliusJ85224635 @kylegoeke and
Texas, OU, OKST, & TT hate traveling to WV.

Julius Johnson‏ @JuliusJ85224635 5h5 hours ago
So then why did they take us if a few years later they are willing to switch us with the Bearcats? I'm filling uneasy now.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Only if WVU could go to the ACC.

Julius Johnson‏ @JuliusJ85224635 5h5 hours ago
What would Big 12 get out of the switch? Easier travel but Cincinnati is not West Virginia. Would have to be something more than travel.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Landscape has changed. WVU being allowed to leave would mean B12 has no lifespan past 2025.

Julius Johnson‏ @JuliusJ85224635 5h5 hours ago
But if that is the case then why would Kansas State and others agree to do the switch? Why sign there own death warrant so to speak?

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Because they would want as much money as possible. UC wouldn't be a full member until 2025.

Julius Johnson‏ @JuliusJ85224635 5h5 hours ago
How long would it take WVU to become full members in ACC?

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Depends on the deal.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
My point is that if the ACC wants WVU as 16 the only way WV gets out of the GoR is if B12 lets them walk.

Julius Johnson‏ @JuliusJ85224635 5h5 hours ago
You make a good point Dude. I just don't think Texas would agree to switch. I think they like us a bit.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Replying to @JuliusJ85224635 @kylegoeke and
UT doesn't like the travel. Especially for hoops.

Julius Johnson‏ @JuliusJ85224635 5h5 hours ago
Then Texas should not have taken us, but of course I'm glad they did. I feel uneasy about the future. But I think it works out for us.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Landscape has changed. The B12 was in a position to take the best football program available in 2011.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
TV ratings mattered more to B12 on the eve of a new TV contract. WVU far & away best option.

Khristofór Lambert‏ @theDudeofWV 5h5 hours ago
Replying to @theDudeofWV @JuliusJ85224635 and
Again B12 values WVU. Only let them leave if future is set. Either by UT & OU leaving or P12 merger.

The part that continues to baffle me is that WVU helps the ACC network. The majority of the "market" is already covered by Pittsburgh. WVA is a tiny state and brings no TVs. That WVU helps the ACC Network is preposterous.

WVU fans, especially The Dude, are delusional. They make up facts then push them as truth to make themselves feel better. The EVIDENCE shows that the ACC and SEC are both tired of WVU crawling over to beg for an invitation.

Not sure about that. You are thinking in today's environment where cable nets are bundled and people basically have to accept a large number of channels. That is changing. If watching sports leaves the bundled cable net world, match ups and ratings become much more important. WVU offers some good matchups with the Backyard Brawl and VT/WVU that would drive interest and ratings.

This is why I am optimistic about UConn in the long run. I think UConn athletics are an attractive media property and it is clearly worth more than the AAC media contract pays. And, I think UConn athletics are more valuable than WVU athletics from a media rights standpoint. Not because UConn football is better than WVU football as it isn't, but UConn's home state and adjacent markets are much larger and wealthier than in WV. Household income in CT is almost 3.5x as large as in WV.

It is sometimes relative....Connecticut income is certainly more than Florida's, as an example...

But Connecticut's housing is 1.57 X the national average vs Florida's 94,8% of the national average and Connecticut's total index is the 7th most expensive state in terms of cost of living at 130.7 (vs Florida's 99.0).

You can make 2/3s of what a Connecticut resident makes, and live the same lifestyle in Florida.
