Yep.

I really don’t give a crap if it happens.
To be honest, that was my thought process regarding the big 12 as well, though I fully realize that that would be much more lucrative for us.

I do see some benefits to being in a conference, even in a greatly reduced PAC 12. If the numbers justify the increase in travel costs 4 to 6 times a year, I'm fine with it, but it is nothing that particularly excites me.

We've been through this song and dance too many times. Do it, don't do it, I don't care.

The B12 was game changing. People thinking that we're gonna land in some revised happy version of the ACC in 5 years are chasing rainbows. The B12 is kinda it for us in terms of a power conference.

This P12 things is....fine. Easier scheduling, good G5 names, maybe a smidge more revenue, bowl access, fine.

And if it doesn't happen, fine. I'm not losing sleep over that lost rivalry with Fresno State.

But its 1 to 1? Not interested in the rubber match?

Fully agree, and yet it's hard to be particularly invested in the annual August dalliance with the big 12. If it happens, it happens. I'm not devoting a whole lot of emotional energy to it until they're painting "Big 12" on the court at Gampel.

That’s fair, given that the only firm rule in realignment is that whatever’s bad for UConn is going to be what’s going to happen.

The good news is that since nobody seems to give two craps about this opportunity, except as a short term stopgap measure AD Dave can play hardball a bit. Maybe insist on a full share of college football playoff revenue? Perhaps request 5 million buyout assistance? The great thing about not really wanting a deal is you can force the other side of the table to sweeten the pot enough to justify your pulling the trigger.

What buyout do we need assisting with?

And I think we would not need to negotiate for a full playoff share as we would be entitled to it. The shares are locked in for the next two years, but I cannot imagine that we would somehow be offered a lesser share if we joined them.

The only thing I would want to be sure of - and who knows if UConn is actually interested in this P12 thing - is that the exit procedure not be onerous. If we enter into something that’s very hard to get out, the only thing I can assume is that Yormark told AD David Benedict that there’s no hope.

I’m all for going to the PAC for a while if the B12 isn’t happening soon because the schedule will be better. That’s a very solid group of football programs.

However, after whipping FAU, excitement began to build. I think we might start putting butts in the seats to see the Temples and FAU’s of the world simply because we will win. Fans just want to have fun and go home happy most of the time. I’m not sure the schedule matters nearly as much as winning does.

I was thinking about our $15 million Big East exit fee, but you're right, obviously, it doesn't apply. Still. if they're offering to pay $2.5 million to Mountain West schools to join, I feel as if we should get at least that. call it a signing bonus.

Apparently, part of the deal for the mountain west schools was that they would not be entitled to receive college football playoff money if they joined the PAC-2. That's what like $15 million per school. I'm not sure that's money that we would be willing to leave on the table. As their pool of potential candidates continue to dwindle our negotiation leverage increases.

Hundred percent agree. However, if they want a GOR, that is a shorter term than the next possible realignment window, that might be something that I would think about giving them. I agree with you that any affiliation with them has to be easy to exit, because at best, it is an interim step for us.

I'd trade cfb payout for no exit fee for the next 6 to 8 years

The Memphis AD said that Memphis wasn't going to get any of the playoff money, it was all going to Oregon State and Washington State.

College football feels like the cusp of the 2008 financial crisis. Everything has gone up, up, up for a while but it is clear that there are some issues with the underlying business model.

I think college football is going to look very different in 5 years.

I think you are correct. Thats why you are seeing so many rumors and movement. What we think it will look like is probably very different, but it will look different. It already has changed so much in the past 5 years. I have no doubt that the next 5-7 years will be very different.

Yeah, I don't know if that deal is any more acceptable to us than it was to Memphis.
Not remotely comparable - Memphis was moving all sports, we’re talking fb only.

We're talking about college football playoff money. That's like being a basketball only but agreeing not to get any NCAA credits. It makes zero sense.
