Nils Machowski visiting today

Seems like he’d help and provide needed depth. Do we know if we are likely to get him?

Yes, on this team he is 3 of 3. Hard to not to trust this staff, but seeing some of the other elite teams, it’s hard not to think some of the struggles during this year will show themselves again next year. Danny followed the same recipe, he didn’t adjust. Time will tell.
That's a strange take for a team that had only 6 losses and got to the national championship game playing Michigan tougher than anyone else did in the tournament. Every year can't be like 2024.

Yup, and you’re not wrong Hurley’s offense isn’t really built around one guy just going iso and breaking people down every trip.
I just think having someone who can do it when things get stagnant wouldn’t hurt. Just as a change up when you need a bucket late in the clock. Every now and then you need a guy who can go make something out of nothing.
So what you would like is to get a player with one additional skill, presumably for the same amount of money in the budget and for the same slot available of playing time. Why, that’s brilliant!! Why didn’t the rest of us think of wanting an even better player for the same amount of money.

Different team as far senority. You had Sr. Reed, Sr, Karaban, Jr. Stewart and all 3 of them had played at least 2 years together. We are replacing that with So. Hines, So. Kamenia, and TBD PF. We also lose Jr. Ball and maybe replace him with potentially Nils and he has only been successful at a lower level. His numbers at UCF were more pedestrian.

I hope we struggle our way to the National Championship game again. Would be absolute agony to have that happen.

Nice sarcasm, but you’re kind of missing the point. I’m not asking for a “better version of the same player for the same money” like it’s some fantasy draft. I’m talking about adding a different skill set a true breakdown guard who can create off the bounce, not a one-dimensional piece. Someone in the mold of a Malik Mack type, not just another standstill option.
And unless you’ve got access to the actual NIL numbers being handed out, let’s not pretend any of us know exactly how the budget is being allocated. We’re all reading the same tea leaves here.
But hey, appreciate the lecture. You lawyers do have a way of turning a simple basketball take into a closing argument a little arrogant, but I guess that comes with the territory.

Can't disagree with any of that but that's not what the poster was talking about that I responded to.

Well he was talking about similar make up of the team and then you mentioned we got to the final four because of that makeup. I'm just saying that this team while built similar doesn't have the experience that this past year had in key positions up front especially. I would take a Sr. Reed and Sr. Karaban again over So. Khamenia and So. Hines.

No it means that was my opinion 4 hours ago when I wrote it. Thats not being obstinate it’s having an idea that several others seems to agree with. To post what y did seems to imply you incorrectly think y are omniscient and provides zero value
I’m not omniscient, Didn’t news of his visit get posted Friday? So like I said either you weren’t following along or you’re indirectly dragging this player who we’re prob gonna sign by continuing to wish aloud for a better, unrealistic player. That’s providing negative value.

I’m looking for a different skill set…it’s that simple.

I actually think we’ve filled some holes. Khamenia can get to the rim and has a better handle than Alex, Hines is going to become a star, Giltay is an animal once you know he’s 18 in his highlight videos. I automatically figured he was a 21-22 year old experienced Euro when I first saw him. Kid can be a menace.

Nils will add depth, ball handling, creativity and shooting in the backcourt, Landrew can do it all, County can backup Silas and Nils and play some 2 guard. If he’s ready to play, look out. Mullins will add strength and be much better on D and going to the rim with the added muscle.

I think the big thing for this team is for Silas to get healthy and be more of an assertive leader/scorer and for Ross to continue to improve. The rest of the team is kind of plug and play as long as our PG and our glue guy/versatile defender bring it. They are the leadership that will set that championship mentality that Alex represented so well.

What?
It’s simple. Contrary to what most people on here think, everyone in the portal is not a great fit. We lost Tarris, Alex, Jaylin, Eric, and Solo. That is a ton of production. In my opinion, we haven’t come close to replacing that. Hines was a great get. There is a lot to be excited about w Khamenia. But after that, we needed more impact. I am concerned about our lack of size in the front court, our inability to create off the dribble (which became a huge issue late in year when every coach figured out to switch on everything), our bench production, and overall depth. Most transfers struggle year 1 in Danny’s system and we are relying on 3-4 of them? There is also a reason that most times kids who transfer up struggle: size, speed, athleticism. I have seen people compare Nils to Joey C. Really? The loss of Solo for this team was massive. We needed a high impact replacement not a role player

Uconn has never been able to match other teams in recruiting the best 5 stars. And with less NIL $ than other elites we are supposed to match them too? In a perfect world we would have a bulletproof team with no deficiencies able to handle huge front courts, and have a Smith type of backup senior PG.

Not much has changed on that front. All good, we will continue to win, win, and win some more.

I’m an eternal optimist with blue-colored glasses in general, but especially in the Hurley era.

Yes, we’ve had some misses with freshmen and has some players just not develop as much as we’d like them to. And many of them have been guards. But we’ve gotten more players that have been great and developed at/above expectations.

One thing to remember is that some of our early guard misses were also influenced by COVID pandemic making scouting/recruiting different and more difficult.

I think we’re gonna be freaking awesome next year.
