That lot was an absolute $h1+ Show. It’s a miracle no one died. Are spiked seltzers considered hard alcohol? They’re like 5% but the policy says “beer and wine only.” However, ain’t no laws when you’re drinking claws.

Also, students can get a parking pass to anywhere else just like the rest of us. These rules are restricted to the specific student lot.

My son walked over there last year (he was 19) to see some friends. He was horrified and was back in blue lot in like 20 minutes.

Oh I said on twitter this is 100% litigation management and nothing more. It just a shame because this county is really becoming an absolute tedious nanny state bore. I have been doing some international travel lately and it’s interesting and really refreshing to see other 1st world nations still believe in personal responsibility. I’d long those countries and short us. We are spending an inordinate amount of resources in this country (ie waste) on belt and suspenders non sense and paper to insulate from a casino style legal system. It’s a big drag on the economy and it’s making us dumber.

People bitch, until someone dies and the school gets sued for $100M.

Which is exactly our societal problem. And we are pretty much the only place in the world where this is practiced and considered logical. There is a massive cost to this nonsense.

Shouts to @zls44

I think the thing that annoys me most about this policy is it’s yet another indicator that school views the students as an obstacle to be overcome when putting on a sporting event, rather than the center of attention.

Just another example, such as the building of the Rent and the continued insistence on playing games at the XL Center, that the state and the school simply don’t understand college sports.

Our athletic department is modeled on minor league pro-sports and that is really disgusting and sad.

Make the student lot the visiting team fans' parking.

Make C,D,E and F a combination of young alumni and current student parking.

Because they hate the students, apparently
Let me remind you; "Students are not the lifeblood of a university- tuition is!" said by someone-somewhere for sure.

Why are we isolating the students in the first place?

If we’re going to be saddled with this awful off campus location, there should be every effort made to replicate an on-campus environment.

Instead, they’re trying to replicate East Rutherford for some godforsaken reason

lol f this school. UConn has no social scene anymore. I wouldn't recommend UConn to any prospective students anymore, this is just further proving my point.
Lol, if you were recommending UConn solely based upon the tailgating scene at the Rent, somehow I think that we'll muddle through without you.

I know I must be missing something here, but I don't see this as a big issue. At a university designated area at a university sponsored event the university is providing rules of conduct. That's the way it always been. Students can either abide by them or, as we did, work around (ignore) them. Don't like the new rules, set up your own designated "student lot" by parking together. Geesh they didn't even make it a dry tailgate, which they could have if the aim was to provide a venue for the vast majority of kids.

I agree with @zls44 100% that issue is largely one of tone. The use of "wiping out" is idiotic. Doesn't anyone beside Benedict read these things. Emphasize what you are trying to create instead.

For those of you who say "now you will never get kids to go the games, because they never go in the stadium anyway" I shrug. We didn't build the Rent so undergrads could get drunk on a runway. We built it so that alumni could get drunk on a runway, uh I mean, so that we play at D1 (aka BCS, aka FBS) college football.

Those of you are always looking for something to bitch about, congrats you've found another thing, but I see this as largely a non-issue.

I think the notion was create a place for students to congregate so that it would be less of pro stadium feel.

If that was the notion than the school’s instinct, unsurprisingly, was wrong.

I feel like it was more to keep the students out of sight, out of mind.

From 2016: Newly-Designed Student Tailgating Lot

In an effort to enhance game day for students who prefer to drive themselves to the stadium, a new student-only parking lot has been created. Located adjacent to the student bus area, UConn students can now park in a student-designated lot for only $10 per game (a $5 savings off game day parking). Students who take advantage of this lot will note its location is significantly closer to the stadium -- compared to game day parking, is a shorter walk to the student entrance (Gate C) and will have a unique student-centric tailgating atmosphere<<

Fair concept but it has turned into a liability.

It's just more of the same BS. UConn is a certified no-fun-zone. The schools night life and social scene is abysmal. You can have more fun at westconn nowadays

students bringing pets to games - has that actually been a problem in the past?

I heard this complaint back to when I was in school. It was horsesheet then, I'm sure it now as well. That said, you know better than I do. How is "fun" being stopped?

...you can't have parties. The police show up around 10, fine you $1000, get you put on probation or if it happens more than once you can be suspended.

You used to be able to walk around carriage and Celeron. Can't do that anymore. Hunting Lodge Rd got shut down, too.

I don't think these restrictions are that bad. The tone is a little strange, but I wonder if there was a specific incident that caused this, like a fight or something.

Off campus parties? Is that UConn or Mansfield police?

UConn because they will suspend you if the police come to your house for a party. And UConn pushed Carriage and Celeron hard to create a guest policy and increase policing.

Suzie's biggest legacy. Hopefully the new President doesn't show such disdain for the students.

That seems problematic to me.
