New Student Tailgating Policy (Shocker- It Sucks)

baby boomers are sucking the sheer joy of life out of everything. afraid of their own shadows. oh, and they forgot one bullet point on the list 'No Fun.'
Creating Bubble wrap kids. Fun is a safe space.

Chin's official position and questions on this matter.

Did it have to come from the AD's office because it relates to sporting events? Would seem from a PR standpoint a bit better if it came from student affairs or some other university department.

No kegs? No large holders of alcohol? No glass? No hard liquor? No standing in truck beds? I'm confused as to how standing in a truck bed correlates to alcohol consumption.

Officially this would have no effect on a college-age Chin. As others have said, canned beer is plenty capable of getting you messed up.

Also, do this right. You wake up (or more appropriately skip sleep Friday night) and knock back a fifth of vodka for breakfast. This should be done by 9am. You go to the game and sustain the buzz on cheap beer and sober up while in the game with some non-alcoholic beverages. Are we really expecting students to show up stone cold sober and start their buzz in the parking lot? What values are we trying to instill in our youth?

I understand a lot of these rules, but not the no standing on truck beds, that is fully bore nanny state nonsense. Next up, minimum number of chews before you are permitted to swallow.

They should have said no liquor, no kegs, no glass and there will be greater enforcement.

The world we live in... Sacred Heart University Sued Over Pancake Eating Contest Death

>>“These contests are significantly more dangerous than people realize and it’s critically important for the public — especially educational institutions — to understand that certain foods are safer than others and a modicum of forethought can literally save lives.”The lawsuit suggests ice cream and whipped cream are safer for amateur competitive eating contests because they melt before they can block a person’s airway.<<

That policy/rule smacks of specific incident - How much you wanna bet that some wonderchild was crapfaced and took a backward brodie out of the truck bed and ended up taking an ambulance ride that shocked mommy and daddy and someone got a nasty letter about the school's responsibility?

Oh I said on twitter this is 100% litigation management and nothing more. It just a shame because this country is really becoming an absolute tedious nanny state bore. I have been doing some international travel lately and it’s interesting and really refreshing to see other 1st world nations still believe in personal responsibility. I’d long those countries and short us. We are spending an inordinate amount of resources in this country (ie waste) on belt and suspenders non sense and paper to insulate from a casino style legal system. It’s a big drag on the economy and it’s making us dumber.

Student here - How much is it to park in the normal lots?

Also student here, begging for a social scene. Tailgates are one of the last things we have other than Teds with new guidelines popping up every few months.

I mean at this point it's too late. Us students before you let you down by not going to mansfield town hall meetings.

Is part 1 of an announcement of a long term series with BYU?

That lot was an absolute $h1+ Show. It’s a miracle no one died. Are spiked seltzers considered hard alcohol? They’re like 5% but the policy says “beer and wine only.” However, ain’t no laws when you’re drinking claws.

Also, students can get a parking pass to anywhere else just like the rest of us. These rules are restricted to the specific student lot.

My son walked over there last year (he was 19) to see some friends. He was horrified and was back in blue lot in like 20 minutes.

People bitch, until someone dies and the school gets sued for $100M.

Which is exactly our societal problem. And we are pretty much the only place in the world where this is practiced and considered logical. There is a massive cost to this nonsense.

I think the thing that annoys me most about this policy is it’s yet another indicator that school views the students as an obstacle to be overcome when putting on a sporting event, rather than the center of attention.

Just another example, such as the building of the Rent and the continued insistence on playing games at the XL Center, that the state and the school simply don’t understand college sports.

Our athletic department is modeled on minor league pro-sports and that is really disgusting and sad.

Make the student lot the visiting team fans' parking.

Make C,D,E and F a combination of young alumni and current student parking.
