Yeah, I'm skeptical of Tennessee. In recent years some combination of Davis, Burrell and Horston hasn't been enough to lift them very high. Now Horston + whoever new they're bringing in is gonna be magically different/better?

Tennessee are got the top player Rickea Jackson .
Wait what? Rickea Jackson IS NOT the top
Player in the portal and last I checked, she hasn’t even made 1st Team All-SEC EVER. She made 2nd team as a Freshman and that is it.

This team is not a FINAL FOUR team and am glad to wager any amount you want on it. The teams shooting is still highly suspect and new point guard not withstanding, Tennessee Orange=TO as in turnovers and lots of them. Win a few key games in February and in the SEC Tournament before getting too carried away.

Jeesh, glad to see reality and Vol fans still haven’t met….

The way I see it is Tennessee plugged up the they had in the position. Having Hollingshead provides them with the depth they lacked behind Key, when Keyen (I hope that's right) went down.

Striplin didn't have as much impact as a freshman. In the SEC, if you don't have depth at the post, you're screwed. They need a player like Hollingshead to bolster that position. Hopefully this move works out for them.

What position will Owusu play at VT ?
PG but may share some duties with Amoore. She's a brilliant scorer/facilitator with the ball in her hands. Great decision making skills and led one of the most potent offenses in the country her first 2 seasons. A season with her and Kitley together will be great to watch. Virginia Tech should have its best team in years.

This is confusing.

I thought Esmery committed to LSU last week

Par for the course.

Wasn't there an LSU player one year ago who announced she was transferring to Arizona, only to later remain at LSU? Or the other way around?

That was Copeland but she left LSU after Nikki left

Still a odd situation. Angel Reese visited yesterday so something is going on…

They literally announced her a week ago

Was it an official statement from LSU that she had signed, or just Esmery stating she had verbally committed (but not signed) ?

I mean maybe the coaching staff there promised her something and went back on it. Good for her to explore her options. Arizona is probably better suited to win more than LSU next year anyway, especially with Reese back and Fields potentially coming with her.

Like being a starter? Kim never promises anyone will start.

But it’s a bad look. A boat load of players and posts transferred out to make room for these kids to come in and now it appears she asked for a release the week LSU brought Reese in.

And not every transfer situation is about winning…

Official press release that she signed
Is she intending to be a grad-transfer?

When Karen Aston was still the head coach at Texas (2019), an official announcement by the school was released that Harvard grad-transfer, Katie Benzan had signed her paperwork in November 2019 to play for Texas the following season. Then, Aston was let go in April 2020, and Vic Schaefer was announced as Texas' new head coach. A week or so later, Maryland issued an official announcement that Benzan had "signed" with Maryland.

What we learned at that time is that a school is bound to a grad-transfer who signs their paperwork, but the grad-transfer is not bound to the school she signed with. In other words, grad-transfer can continue with their "recruitment" as if they had never signed any paperwork with said school.

EDIT: Not specific to a "grad-transfer"; any player/transfer who signs an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) is not bound to the school like when signing an LOI.

Could’ve been. If all along your recruiting process they are saying this is how we plan to use you and then they bring someone else in your position barely a week later, why would you stay when you can go and be valued more elsewhere? It sucks but she is doing what’s best for her, and I don’t necessarily think she’s wrong for it.

You could argue it’s equally a bad look on the coaching staff’s part. If Martinez felt like she was being undervalued or viewed as a second option by the staff, why stay when you can get what you’re looking for elsewhere? Business is business.

She is not listed as grad transfer but your explanation makes the most sense. This whole thing is clear as mud.
