New school commitments by Transfers

Didn’t seem like she knew much while at LSU, or maybe it was Fargas clear incompetencies running and managing a program
Going to lean more towards the latter judging by the Aces’ performance in the latest draft.

Yes, when she picked KP with the 13th pick I couldn’t believe it. She doesn’t shoot 3s and that’s what they were supposedly looking for.

The portal is also recruiting. Tennessee has offers out for several high school players. Not just the 23 class. It goes 24 and 25 also. Yes the quote was when DeMoss was at Tennessee.
Just trying to follow the timeline from 2003 to now as far as when TN was recruiting versus selecting. Scratch that...start with 2008ish to now...was TN recruiting or selecting? I don't see these two things as being independent. of one another. I mean...how can you select a player you didn't recruit. NO SCHOOL has it like that where they just go and get any player they want. Let's assume that somewhere around 2008 TN got back to selecting. Look at the selections and the results. WITH ALL DUE RESPECT...with the talent that put on the TN uniform...I would have a difficult time pointing fingers at the talent. That leaves whoever did the "selecting or recruiting".I think Evina alluded to that and we know how she was treated. Can we keep it real? If it weren't for the portal, now supersized because of covid, TN recruiting would be dismal. Those players you picked up...probably wouldn't even be in the portal and you might have a couple 2022 recruits. Justine...and someone else. But, I'm glad it worked for you guys and I hope that you are competitive because...it's time to whiz or get off the pot.

Hmmmmm…..so they only select players from the portal? They don’t select many great high schoolers. Why would that be? Mickie DeMoss last coached at Tennessee in 2003. Maybe that quote is outdated a just a little.
Believe DeMoss came back to coach at TN last few years before Summitt stepped down but might be mistaken…

.-.
I will use a quote Mickie DeMoss said. She said Tennessee doesn't recruit, Tennessee selects. Tennessee is getting back to selecting.
No true. Let’s look at the HS Recruits any of these years with Harper as a coach and the next two classes of 2023 and 2024 to see who’s considering LV…. Not one TOP 10 recruit has shown any interest. In fact only 1 top 20 recruit has committed for 2022-23 (Pissott #11) Just please wake up from this annoying delusion and from posting statements not supported by any facts.
For a fan who’s team hasn’t been to a FINAL FOUR in 14 years, hasn’t even won a conference title in 8 years, hasn’t produced an All-American in 12 years, you should do type enough BS to fertilize Iowa….

Evina was not recruited by this staff. It was Holly that was the coach. I think Evina had already decided to leave before .Harper came in. Yes when Holly was the coach there were some issues. Not just with Evina. I think this staff has changed the culture there. Puckett said one of the reasons she picked Tennessee. Harper pulled out a detailed blueprint of how she would fit and her role.
Yes Justine will help. I just hope not to have the injuries like last year.

What recruiting service is the most accurate? I would not think the 24 class would be done. Players can go up or down the rankings in a year. The 23 class not everyone has signed yet. As for AA Horston was this past year.

Pointer is a really good player but she still has a lot to expand on her game to ever break into the WNBA (which is brutal to get into already). She can shoot the 3 but thats not her game and she generally doesn't shoot them unless she is completely wide open. She is crafty getting to the rim but not the purest shooter out there. But we all know why they drafted her that early... They honestly botched all their draft picks.

But none of that is the point of this thread so I'll leave that argument for another place.

Horston was not an AA. She was honorable mention, but didn't make a team.

Defending your other points, though. In spite of the fact that Tennessee has not recruited well from HS the last few classes, does it matter much if they are able to sign players like Hollingshead, Rickea Jackson and even Jaz Powell (not a HS AA, but has something even better...Div I starting experience and a team stat leader at that). The portal does change how the recruiting game is played, and Tennessee has capitalized on it. Missed them first time around? Catch 'em on the rebound instead.

NIL is changing how the recruiting game is played as much as the portal. Gov Lee signed legislation a few weeks ago that allowed Tenn universities to be involved in NIL collectives. I wouldn't be surprised if tenn wbb benefited from this. Hope they take advantage of the head start cuz I imagine by next year all states will have passed similar legislation.

One thing Dawn has done over the years was stress to her players about building a brand, about getting a degree in something you really want to do and when the time comes, hiring an agent that fits you. You could see it immediately with some of her past players but it really hit home this year with NIL. As soon as it was available Destinni Henderson & Zia Cooke launched their own clothing line and and were ready to go and took advantage of it immediately and have done really, really well.

Most of the states already have those collectives because they weren't outlawed in those states. Those collectives are what's getting all the attention right now and that's what the Presidents are trying to ban. The NIL wasn't supposed to include Pay for Play which is what the collectives are doing with football and men's basketball. It won't be long before there are "some" rules in place. Tennessee may have to revert to putting money in McDonalds bags again.;)

U turn back to topic

Kozlova was a very easy player to root for. By the time her sophomore season ended, she had improved enough to be a rotation player. Brenda just wasn't comfortable playing her in big moments. I wish her luck at Dayton.

Does Mulkey have a good track record of helping posts develop their perimeter game?

When Baylor hired Collen it sounded like Smith and Egbo were happy to stay because they would get the opportunity to play on the perimeter more or just expand their game in general. Going from Maryland offense which is more like Baylor new offense under Collen, to LSU offense is a choice though because there is probably a reason Smith and Egbo didn't follow Mulkey to LSU.

Not a leap to say Mulkey will help Reese improve her defense more than Frese could, but I’m skeptical about Reese’s “big guard” ideas in any offense.

Hmm interesting. I do not think this really will impact the overall structure of the SEC as I think both SC and Tennessee should still be firmly ahead of them from a talent and depth perspective next year. I also do not see them as a national contender just yet either. However, this should get them to the Sweet 16 at the very least.

Anticipation Popcorn GIF

It does make their match ups with South Carolina and Tennessee a tad more interesting. Looking forward to seeing SEC conference games next season.
