I'm guessing other alternative is an FCS moving up, which probably has much less punitive costs for leaving but an FCS would require a ton more admin to get up to speed with FBS admin and ops so you probably wouldn't want to give yourself less than a year to sort that out.

There may be splits of football and basketball conferences (if not structurally then defacto) If there is spending caps on athletes....basketball schools may spend 75% of their funds on basketball while other schools may spend 75% on football.

I don't see why Memphis would want or be able to move football only. How about Air Force or UConn football only. That's the ticket.

In the current climate, I don't think any school other than UConn makes sense as football only. Unless Memphis were to join the Big East, at which point I think both Memphis and UConn would become somewhat equally desirable options.

Northern Illinois did just go FB only to the MW, so there are schools willing to sacrifice everything for FB. I’m not sure I see another such appealing midwest/west school in that category but maybe.

Further away, Im sure Liberty would do it.

If we took that it would be a test admission that we have abandoned the possibility of P4 before membership.

Neither of those schools would be desirable by the PAC-12.

Haven't we? We are not getting a P4 invite given the status quo. If something dramatic were to happen, then perhaps UConn will be considered. UConn could make another change if that bridge were to materialize. In the meantime, the PAC 12 football programs are solid and similar in stature to UConn. Don't get me wrong, it's not gonna happen. But if there were a grouping of those programs in the East looking for a member, I'd take it. Heck I'd take the AAC football only.

I don't disagree with any of that, I just think that joining the Pac 12 remnants means that there's nothing on the horizon.
 
South Florida State has four sports....baseball, volleyball, softball, cross country...not yet ready for prime time

Almost a community college spread over campuses in multiple counties, they primarily provide AA degrees that allow transfer to Florida institutions like USF, UCF, FSU, Florida..... Their Jacaranda Hotel campus in Avon Park is interestingly historic (1928 old Florida..Babe Ruth Clark Gable and others once stayed there).

USF sponsors 20 sports (21 next year). The school in Gsinesville sponsors 20.
FSU also 20.

I am by no means an expert on SFSU but I would not be surprised if it got invited to the party. Yes it is a young university but onward and upward. Hardly a community college based on the data I read. I also found out about Florida Polytechnic University which was split off from USF in 2012. Quite the interesting campus if you check out googlemaps

I think the joke was lost in translation. We were referring to University of South Florida aka South Florida State University, since the All-State PAC 12 conference requires "State" in the name.
 
In terms of overall all sport conference championships, the PAC-12 took 5 of the top 6 Mountain West schools. The most winning program not going to the PAC-12 is New Mexico.

The entire new PAC12 is the most dastardly CRA event yet. Mtn West takes in two orphans and the orphans kill off the parents.

As for whether or not the reborn P12 is better than the AAC, Sunbelt, old Mtn West or whatever gets a giant shoulder shrug from me, its never going to matter. There is no scenario where this collection of schools gets a seat with the power 4.
 
What does everyone here think it would take in media rights from the New PAC12 to allow UConn to join and have the same financial foundation as the current CBS deal? Factor in the extra travel costs. Would 5-8 Million get it done?

EDIT: Do not factor in a potential exiit fee.

What good is 5-8m per year if we going 3-9 every season because the travel has zapped our recruiting? The next 5 years for UConn football is about wins above anything. Must change the narrative with winning. Must be winning!

Also, no point joining the P12 when we are on the doorstep of the B12. If the B12 plans go bust by 2030, then its a whole new situation.
