New PAC-12 Forming

Well I already know the an$wer, but did ask the que$tion....on future/ partial schedules (still have a Purdue game too).

Definitely a big improvement. We would have to listen and probably accept unless something else was imminent.
 
I want to see the AAC survive as the top G5 conference for some reason. But if it splinters, I say:

To the Big East and PAC for Football Only:
UConn
USF
Temple
Memphis

4 Large state U's in the East and they can always bring along a couple Texas schools. Temple did beat Utah State this weekend after all.

The Big East should swallow hard and consider it. Louisville was once in the Big East and nobody got hurt. There are no more rules anymore so there is no need to worry about Memphis cheating. Maybe it eventually leads to a basketball merger for the Big East and PAC schools, that's how you get Gonzaga in the Big East.

Not a bad idea, but cross out Temple, they stink.

With the media rights already set, this would add nothing to the conference except the end of round-robin scheduling and three schools who would leave at the drop of a hat.

God forbid round robin scheduling ended, and every school would leave at the drop of the hat if a better opportunity presented itself. If conferences start going hybrid for basketball only contracts the Big East will get shredded.

The Big East once thrived as a 16 team league.

Full membership includes having a FB team, right?? It can't be Gonzaga that counts as a full member because they don't have FB? I know Gonzaga is only being suggested as Bball only but just curious.
 
I would like to have a conference to finally call a home, hopefully temporary. However, it seems like a complete head scratcher of a move to add us. What do we possibly bring to the conference other than a warm body with a name brand that people have heard of, but know from a different sport than you're getting? We aren't a big recruiting area and the NY market won't care at all. So I'm not sure I see why there's interest but I'm not going to have an issue if we sign up for a few years.
 
Feels like the Pac-6 overplayed its hand with the AAC schools, then the MWC failed to lock up everyone, leaving chaos. If Air Force ends up leaving to the AAC, after all,, there might be a football only opportunity to be had in either the Pac-9 or in an eastern AAC division with Army, Navy, Temple, ECU, USF, FAU & Charlotte. An AAC Eastern option like that wouldn't be the worst schedule (although realistically they'd probably put Army & Navy in separate divisions so that, that game doesn't ever count as a conference game, which would probably push UAB east). Do the 7 game division schedule, plus 2 cross-over games from the other division.

The thought of the Catholic schools allowing a Memphis that plays rough and loose with the rules is to outside the box for them to consider. UConn plays within the conference's unofficial rules even though we aren't like any of the other members. We conform but are like the crazy uncle lovable enough to tolerate.

I was just gonna ask you, why in your scenarios you never have the Big East just bringing back football with the eastern schools you mention? Treat them like separate conferences in you how you sell their rights.

I’d take Temple and USF as full Big East members.

Target $7M for basketball and $10M for football. $17M total.

For an official conference you need 8 full members that play football. That becomes dilutive.

The beauty of a PAC affiliation is in the mutual benefits to the east and the west members.

PAC full members can stop at 8 full members without further dilution. With an affiliate east they get a conference championship and increased exposure to the northeast media.

The eastern affiliates benefit from being in a name conference without the 8 member minimum hurdle. The east also benefits from a conference championship. To some extent the east also benefits from west media exposure as universities increasingly have national profiles. Army and Navy especially benefit from the western exposure.

East and West benefit from each other while maintaining the regional footprint for Olympic sports.

Sounds nice, but Delaware and USF are in ok situations already, is the money that much better in a PAC/BE hybrid?

Yes, especially for UD, with the assumption that football would value at $10M or more.

No, but its okay for USF to take haircut but not Big East schools apparently.

It isn't going to directly impact Basketball unless we get stuck in bad GOR and can't go to a better conference for both sports. Most basketball fans me included just care about staying in the Big East for Basketball presently so this is ideal as it also is a lot better than Independence for Football.
