He’s the same height as Matt Garry, just saying.
You know, I’m not sure you can bring in just one guy to replace Matt Garry. But this guy could be just apart of filling that hole.

Pretty sure Matt Garry would cook this dude. Garry is a baller—not Big East level—but a baller.

I don’t think this is real.

My immediate thought was that this was one of those “special needs kids get a “scholarship” type feel good stories or something.

.-.
Assuming he’s rewording the post so it’s clear what’s happening here. He’s still got UConn mens basketball in his bio.

"Extremely blessed to continue my academic career at the University of Connecticut. I want to thank Coach Hurley and whoever was in his office when he met with me as a favor to my high school coaching staff and told me that I would be given an opportunity to try out for a walk-on spot after I enroll. Can't wait to get started!"

He looks like the fake architect/pizza delivery guy from 'There's Something about Mary'.

If this is really him in the film, the kid can shoot. It is crazy that this is the first we have heard of this connection but then again Dan Hurley isn’t known to be 100% forthright and/or overt. I’ve been wanting a pure shooter so I am happy. Then again, is it April1st?..

I've never laughed as hard in a movie theater as the flash cut to Ted's mangled ball bag stuck in his zipper. How'd you get the beans above the franks?
Same here. I was with my wife and another couple at a theatre and I was laughing out loud the entire movie, which is unlike me.

“I’m Norm. I live with my folks up in Pompano, hey”

He appears to be a shooter

The funny thing is other than the link to his video or the school website there's no evidence who this kid is. Without the first now deleted tweet, even the thread title doesn't include his name!

Goodfellas is probably the only other movie with as much dialogue seared into my brain. I think it's the only movie I've seen twice in the theater. I watched it with my older kid a few weeks ago and I was reflexively saying every line. I love it so much. I made an "all I have are these damn Nepalese coins" joke a few days ago that went over like a lead balloon with some colleagues.

seems like this is the answer:

Anyone know the reasoning behind this? I don’t know why coaches wouldn’t want it posted.

Better players talk... if they think this is the level of talent UConn is "recruiting" they don't want that to be the idea.

Maybe a low major sees he’s good enough to be a preferred walk on at UConn and want to throw him a scholly.
But if that’s true, wouldn’t most kids prefer the free ride? I don’t see why the kid would agree to not post about it.

Cause that's the deal if you want to be gauranteed a spot to practice, and compete against D-1 athletes, learn from a high major coach, and travel an be a part of the team.

Other walk-ons go through admissions, and pay their own way with only the possibility of joining the team.

Terms and conditions of the preferred walk on role is we politely ask you not to post about it.

So you’re saying they chose that over a scholarship? Maybe they do, but I wouldn’t understand why.

There's nothing about this guy online. This is very strange.

I did watch the highlight video and, with all the usual caveats (no idea re level of competition, and the video shows very little ballhandling and only 1 defensive play), it's a pretty nice mixtape! He has a nice looking shot with range and a floater.

That doesn't mean he's a D1 player. It just means it's a nice mixtape (apart from the graininess and lack of audio).
'(apart from the graininess and lack of audio)'.

i was allowed to vid his cyo practice. kids gonna add backbone since his team trained to 'take on all comers, under any set of rules.'
he can even block shots without jumping. impressive.
i usually played for the greeks, but sometimes the roumanians back in cyo daze.
