You answered your own question.

"Most" kids would prefer the free ride. Some kids don't "need" the financial support and want to be involved in blue blood programs with NBA level talent, and/or its their dream school.

We just went through the same thing. A few days before this tweet this kid just showed up on the friar active roster online. Of course it didn’t have all the intrigue of this cluster but still it was the same.

In other words he won't be just a bench warmer but an experienced bench warmer. Never underestimate the value of experience.
