The most "meh" number it could have possibly been.

Mmm, there are a lot of numbers which are more meh. $8.5M firmly establishes us at the most valuable of the G5. Not where we want to be mind you but better that many predicted.

We've had stormcrows on here for years explaining how the cable cutters had taken all the money of out of media deals and to expect no increase in revenue, and quite possible a decrease. They were wrong.

We've had the business geniuses on here reminding us that without a bidder another bidder, there was no reason for ESPN to increase our deal. They were wrong.

We've had the college sports geniuses telling us to shutter the football program and move to the Dig East because it made a nominal amount more than our old deal. They were wrong.

What this deal does is validate that our current conference, while not where we want to be, is the best option open to us at this time. Most of us knew that. Now we all do.

If that's the deal it's vastly underwhelming. The only possible good thing about it is it doubles what the new Big East schools get from FOX, so maybe it will shut up some of the "drop football and back to the NBE" bozos. How the Memphis prez and Aresco can go around acting like it's the deal of the century is mind numbing. If this is the best Aresco can do, he should be fired.

Unless the difference in the BE and AAC deals covers football expenses, I’d expect the noise to get louder.

How much does the BE currently make? All I wanted was to be able to shut up the crowd saying jump in the coffin of BE but this deal doesnt seem thrilling.

I'm hedging a bit here since I think its possible we aren't getting a full picture of the deal based on these leaks, but IF this is the deal (say 5.5/school), it's not good news.

What is it that you wanted him to say CBH? We're shut out of P5 money, but we get a bigger pile of the crumbs than the rest of the G5 so I guess we are boned less than the rest of the unwashed and unwanted? If the deal is as described, it's not horrible.

True and we have no idea what our broadcast schedule is going to look like. But for today, I'll take this story and not feel bad about it. One thing the evisceration of the Big East has taught me is celebrate what you can don't waste time imagining everything going wrong. Reality will be bad enough.
