yeah they came in lower than my ‘ doom and gloom’ 6-6.5 million. wow i totally missed the boat on that one.
Lol, I suppose I could I do a search of every time you predicted that there was no more money to give us, no other bidders, etc, but let's wait and see what the deal actually is. There will plenty for to whine about, I'm sure.

What is it that you wanted him to say CBH? We're shut out of P5 money, but we get a bigger pile of the crumbs than the rest of the G5 so I guess we are boned less than the rest of the unwashed and unwanted? If the deal is as described, it's not horrible.

The roses thing is every bit as dumb as the $2 ConFLiCT trophy rivalry game. Maybe moreso.

How about just nothing at all? Maybe something that doesn't make the league look dumb when the details emerge.

"We're close to a deal with ESPN, who we value as a network partner. The details can't be released just yet but we look forward to having our games featured some of the most visible platforms for college sports over the next few seasons."

Was that so hard to not come off as a goofy bastard?

unless it doesnt include espn+ its exactly what i said it would be. a modest increase by conceeding to move some stuff to paywall streaming.

and lol at anyone still pretending there were other bidders. nobody can even make one up.

The most optimistic projection is that in 3 years they might distribute 30% of what the lowest P5 league distributes.

Maybe we can get rid of the P6 branding now? Pretty sure he isn’t going to make fetch happen.

Who said give up. I said the branding sucks. Sorry not sorry.

Who the hell is P6 supposed to influence?

People running around with P6 flags at football games is pathetic.

I think that the AAC would be better off "branding" itself as a challenger to the establishment, as opposed to pretending they are "P6" which is a made up monicker that has no credibility.

The way the league looks like now is probably the annoying tagalong who doesn't belong. They should embrace their role as the up and comer instead of pretending they are already part of the club.

Just my two cents.

They made so many mistakes to this point.

They should have built a SPORTS conference.

9 teams - double round robins. No affiliates.

UConn
Cinci
UCF
USF
Memphis
Houston
ECU
SMU
Temple

9 schools with either history or some reason for hope.

Instead of extra mouths to feed that add nothing or teams half in based on small samples of success.

I mean when they added Too Lane they didn’t have a radio outlet for basketball.

There is a reason why no one takes credit for the Tulsa/Tulane invites. Debacle to have a conference title game no one wanted.

If it's 7M a year, it's right along my expectations. I believe I guessed 8M. Plus ESPN threw us a bone increasing our payout next year, which they didn't have to do. It's not earth-shattering or great by any means, but going from 2M to 7M is a decent jump.

That's the biggest blunder to date.

Tulsa, Tulane, Navy, Wichita State don't make sense.

As I mentioned prior the TV deal if it pays out annually say ~$72M for 12 team, I can't imagine would go down much with the 9 teams you listed above. Per team payout would be 8M as opposed to 6M.

I just want to know if the athletic department can be sustained on this? Will we have to drop sports?

You would think eventually that is on the table except UConn and the state seems intent on expanding AD spend and sinking money into capital expenses (though as @huskymedic has noted some/most of the capex is privately funded).

People would’ve said the same thing about the Florida directionals a few years back and now look at them. Tulane is starting to play decent football and getting better. Navy also has a solid football tradition and brings viewers no matter what. And of course Wichita State on the basketball side brings more competition and good hoops. I think in every measure the conference is improving, and if you don’t think Aresco has anything to do with that you’re kidding yourself. Branding matters. But will agree to disagree

Navy isn’t even in the TV contract. If you wanted to play them... you can.

Branding does matter. That’s why P6 is so terrible. A frankenstein mismash is so terrible.

A core group of mostly large publics would have been a much better path to maximize the per team rake instead of having UConn subsidize Tulsa’s worthless athletic dept.

He is but he's right more often than he's not. If the deal looks like what the Memphis guy is reporting it's pretty lame and lame that Aresco was gushing about it.

I don't understand why people keep bringing up the Big East as a measuring stick since the league doesn't have football.

Uh oh, someone’s got hurt feelings :(. Your tell when you are butt hurt is that you devolve to name calling. Don’t worry little fella. I’m sure they’ll be plenty for you to complain about in the new deal. In the meantime, cold weather in winter kind of sucks. Maybe you can complain about that for a while?

Just re-read that article and it said that Memphis "expects" to receive $8.5 mil. Who knows if thats accurate. Until the AAC releases a statement I find it hard to put my faith in officials from Memphis of all places.

It's not 7 million a year.

It's a 3 million bump on the last year of the existing contract. ESPN did not have to re-negotiate the existing contract at all. But we got a 3 million signing bonus.

The new contract is 8.5 per year for three years.

Another way to look at it is an additional 28.5 million for an additional three years.
