That's why I keep asking what happened. I think it must just be a joke some people are in on.I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing in the handshake. It seemed like a pretty regular meeting between the two of them. I think people are just seeing what they want to.
I’m still in pain over the second half of the ‘01 FF.I agree that any win against Notre Dame is a plus. However let‘s not forget that UConn beat ND twice during their last two season meetings but lost to them twice in the final four ehen it counted. while the win was enjoyable it doesn’t take away the sting from those two final four losses, at least for me.
I've seen Muffett be chilly, or give a "drive by" handshake. This was not that.I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing in the handshake. It seemed like a pretty regular meeting between the two of them. I think people are just seeing what they want to.
Muffet:
1-2 years in the future.... that's too late. Barring injuries and/or defections, do you understand how strong UConn will be in 1-2 years? She is going to have a lot of teams to get back at after this season with all the losses ND will have. SC, Baylor, and Stanford will be formidable in 1-2 years also. While I treasure any win against ND, Muffet likely is using this as motivation for the future. I remember the year ND beat UConn multiple times. In the play offs, never saw a more motivated Huskie team. Suspect MM knows her team's strengths/weaknesses better than anyone and is already looking 1-2 years into the future.
I wish I thought the NCAA gave a fig. Immune from repercussions.Even for ND, the NCAA selection committee could never justify such a decision. They would become an object of ridicule in the media and deservedly so. The NCAA may love ND, but not at the expense of what would be some terrible press.
Geno:
Sorry but as a person that was born and raised for my first 20 years in West Lafayette, IN, I can NEVER respect anyone that has anything to do with Norte Dame.Muffet is one of the great coaches out there. This is a highly unusual season. She has been gracious in a loss. I believe it was in either the final or semi-final game against Breanna Stewart when she went over to Coach Geno after the game and said she thought they were playing San Antanio (we were so good).
It's one down season. Coach Geno has singled her out as his biggest rival among coaches.
So let's give her and Notre Dame the respect they're due as a great coach and program....and enjoy the big win.
I was there today and this ND team does not shoot well from the outside AT ALL and even if Vaughn does come back and play well, she can not make up for an inside gap at which they are so deficient. They lacked ball movement and quickness on defense. This team will be lucky to make the Sweet16 and depending on the draw could face a very tough 2nd round game elimination. Honestly, Peoples was ND’s best player and she did her damage in the second half when UConn was up 30. I was once wary that ND would be ready to rise by the end of the year, I no longer have that worry AT ALL. I see Louisville, NC State, FSU, Miami, Ga Tech, Syracuse as all better and hope Virginia, Duke and NC can also show themselves as better than ND, and given ND has won the ACC every year since joining, all teams will be hunting the weaker ND squad this year.Whether any team is in the BIG Dance in April is a crap shoot. I'd put a dollar and 10 cents on ND being in every thing up to the Elite 8, after that I can't afford to gamble that big money.

Like some posts in this thread. She is the personification of class....![]()

How many teams look the same jn March as in their early days of December? This is NOT a sure sign of a great team (or a great coach)!!I, a once NB BB fan, and a "liker" of ND women now say this: The season is YOUNG. MM's team is YOUNG. There is TALENT on that team. With her coaching staff and MM's experience I don't believe the team in March will look like today's team. MM has made me such a believer in the Nd mYSTIQUE I wince before each game with her ND team. I enjoy UC beating them but I don't like UC playing them (no logic there huh?)
You joke, but I'm pretty sure 14 points is Sniezek's all-time best offensive output in a college uniform. I know she'd gotten to double digits against the Domers before (I think during our Sweet Sixteen upset in 15-16), so something about player the Domers (as or against them) tempts to actually shoot the basketball.@TheFarmFan, perhaps Sniezek's best offensive scoring game of her career?
I agree, it wasn't as exciting given the the lop-sided score and ND's record, it didn't feel like a true rivalry game.
Megan has been utterly spectacular in every facet this year. I loved hearing Christyn's story about why she likes to take it out on Notre Dame.
This article mostly a Megan Walker tribute...

So what do we know about UConn so far this season?
UConn is 8-0 and undefeated. And on Sunday, junior Megan Walker showed the rest of the country she might be ready to be the next great Huskies player.www.espn.com
Nothing to sneeze at.You joke, but I'm pretty sure 14 points is Sniezek's all-time best offensive output in a college uniform. Sorry can't agree on that the final four 2 years ago was a ND love fest. Made a joke of honesty in officiating.Even for ND, the NCAA selection committee could never justify such a decision. They would become an object of ridicule in the media and deservedly so. The NCAA may love ND, but not at the expense of what would be some terrible press.
What does that have to do with the NCAA Selection Committee, which is made up of AD’s, former coaches and other respected individuals, selecting a 500 team to play in the Big Dance?Sorry can't agree on that the final four 2 years ago was a ND love fest. Made a joke of honesty in officiating.
Did we ever drop below .500? And I'll gloat all I want.In the year after D graduated, we lost eight games. Let's not gloat too much.
The NCAA does not choose the teams that make up the Big Dance. The Selection Committee does. They are made up of independent former coaches, current AD’s and other professionals, few of home adhere to a Notre Dame bias.I wish I thought the NCAA gave a fig. Immune from repercussions.
Four of the nine graduated. They couldn't come back even if they wanted to. Sure they should have five kids they currently don't have, but how many kids is Geno missing? Lexi, Mikayla, AEH, Batouly to name a few.I believe any win over ND is a "Great Win." It means we've defeated a great coach. And in grudging respect and admiration for MM, I'd like to point out that though her team graduated four starters, had another starter leave early for the pros, had two transfer, and has two more out due to serious injury, still look at how her team played: ND forced eight steals and made UConn commit 15 turnovers, including 5 by our AA point guard, Crystal Dangerfield, and won the second half. So even though this version of ND has ten kids fewer than it was supposed to have this year, it still played with the tenacity and verve we've come to expect from That Team.
So we defeated Notre Dame, one of the greatest teams in the game. They might just pull themselves together by the end of the season to win some things. The ACC is weak, and anyone can beat anyone in that league and other leagues.
But let's respect who they are, and also that our team beat them. And let's understand that they've had a good recruiting year for 2020 freshmen. So the rivalry will continue.
Our coach is the best around, but their coach is perhaps the best of the rest. Respect for worthy competitors.

I agree, not much sympathy here. Beat up so much? It's not like ND played UCF...“We’re just getting beat up so much - I don’t know how we’re going to recover from this.”
Looking for sympathy? Sorry - came to the wrong place. Whine to somebody who cares.

ND is not one of the greatest teams in the game. Not this season. What they are is one of the greatest programs in the game. They won the second half only because Geno called off the dogs. He does not want to embarrass any team, except maybe Tennessee. Do you think MM would have done the same if the situation was reversed? The game was decided by halftime. ND does not need for anyone to speak up for them. Without a doubt they will be very good again, maybe this season, maybe next season.I believe any win over ND is a "Great Win." ND will be lucky if they end the season with a .500 record. The ACC is not that weak, they could end up with as many as 12 losses in the ACC regular season. If they lose that many they will have to play 5 games in 5 days just to make it to the Championship game. I believe that they will not win the ACC tournament and will not make the NCAA Tournament.I believe any win over ND is a "Great Win." It means we've defeated a great coach.
