NCAA selection thread

Another crappy late start. Hate that slot.

The AAC getting more love than the BE. Who woulda thunk it?
We have five teams in the tourney more than the ACC or AAC don’t understand…..Memphis as a 5 is fine maybe they were a 6 but St Johns as a two and five teams in is better than we thought. Personally I think we are a better team than Marquette but everyone loves Shaka. Maybe they had a better resume but we are better. If we played then 100 times we beat then 60 times imo.

Creighton just has our number they pretty much save their best for us and them as a 9 was satisfying. Very happy we hot 5 with Xavier making the play in.

They did double us up in the brackets reducing our chances but I think the BE was treated fairly.

But the only reason we are in the bracket with Florida is so if we beat OK they can market the last two teams to win back to back championships, so it is only appropriate that Florida end our chances to go for three. I kind of like that story line, we got what they thought was the weakest 1 and there is a story line if we get to the second round.

Overall I am good with what the committee did this year. As some may remember I was not too happy last year which led to some interesting back and forth with me and another BY’er. This year I got no complaints!

14 sec teams is an insult to college basketball.
The conference won more than 75% of games against other high majors this season. The 10th best team beat St. John's straight up. The 13th best team (by conference record), Oklahoma, our next opponent, beat the 3rd best ACC school, the 3rd best Big 12 school, and the 3rd best team in the Big Ten in the non-conference.

It's like people don't watch games outside of UConn...

I wouldn't have cried if Vandy-OU-Texas didn't get in. But they're also I think justifiably in, given what that conference did in November-December.

I don't hate our match up with Oklahoma, but we might as well not take the floor against Florida. That will be a slaughter
I think we can take Oklahoma as Fears is dar and away their best player and we can bottle up him like Dixon.

Florida is intriguing because Condon is not a match for Tarris and while Clayton Jr is their PG now he is not especially fast. They do not match up well against Liam and AK. And we are deeper…likely they are favored by 5-7

ESPN talking heads pretty much went all chalk with 1-2 seeds making the final 8.
Almost all had 4 #1 in the final4, which rarely happens.
And Florida as the winner
That's a pretty solid 8 teams to pick if you are a gambling man. It's too hard to pick the upsets like 4s or 5s sneaking in and to pick anyone against those 8.

At least we get Raff doing our game

In trying to predict how UConn will perform, people continue to make the same mistake. They are comparing us to last year's team.

A much more accurate comparison is to the 2023 team. That team DID NOT win the conference title or the conference championship. And while UConn 2023 passes the eye test much better than this team, that team did not grab the nations attention until after our big win in the round of 32. That probably won't happen this time around, but think 2023, not 2024.

UConn has beaten #1 seeds before. Already kicked Walter Clayton's butt once. Get past Okla and let the threes fly. Playing with house money in game#2 vs Fla. Nothing to lose and everything to gain. Let Tarris do his thing.

Haters gonna hate. Hell with them.

Kentucky beat 5 top 10 KenPom teams this year, includng Duke, Florida, and Tennessee twice. 3 seed is fine (like 90% of the brackets on the matrix had them as a 3).

They didn't lose a single game against a team that wasn't in at least the comittee's first four out.
Only compaison I can make is to UConn in 2011 when the Big East was considered the best conference ever that season. UConn 2011 we beat 9 ranked teams before the tournament, won the conference tournament and finished 26-9 to get a 3 seed. Kentucky beat 8 ranked teams but only beat 1 team in the conference tournament and finished 22-11 to get a 3 seed.

1. The amount of whining here is pathetic. We talked about it for a few weeks. We were on the 8/9 line. It will take our A game to beat Florida. Guess what? It would also take our A game to beat any of the ones or twos. That's the nature of the tournament. As @AntG168 said we don't have to beat Florida in a 7 game series. Just for 40 minutes. Scared of playing them? Go find something else to do. Have some pride.

2. For the people who though the BE got screwed...what is wrong with you? As @superjohn said, no they didn't, with the exception of Creighton, who has to play an 8 seed in a road game. I thought Xavier deserved to get in, but they could have easily been left out. The seeds were all about what we predicted.

3. I think Oklahoma is a good team, but there are better teams that could have been a 9.

4. If, if we can get to the Florida game, I think we will play well. All the pressure shifts to the 1 seed, especially with the idea of ending the streak of the two time champ. We keep that game close, and we will see what kind of moxy Florida has.

There's an inferiority complex here about the Big East and even about UConn which blows my mind considering we have the best program in the country and the Big East is a damn good basketball conference.

We have people saying teams like Florida and Bama play a completely different sport than we do. We actually had fans saying Gonzaga plays a completely different sport than we do before we played them earlier in the season. It's laughable.
